Film students, take note: if you want to do a gritty montage of 'city at night' establishing shots (and admit it, you do), you'll want these songs as a soundtrack. One thing conspicuously missing from my sheltered British upbringing was those bouncing cars with thumping music that you see in stereotypical rap videos. Perhaps because of this deficiency, I like nothing more than to vicariously simulate the experience through song. Hence... David Holmes : 'Rip Rip'. This track is from the superb Out of Sight soundtrack , and makes for a neat exemplar of both the sound and quality of the album. Indonesian Allstars?

I couldn't decide what to pick for today, so I let my iPod do it for me. So, first of all, though I know I posted a Yann Tiersen track just a few weeks ago, here's yet another from his album Le Phare . What's different about this track, though, is that while the last one was "not much, but it manages a wry smile", this one is wrench-you-from-your-thoughts incredible.
