When it comes artists, true artists regardless of media, there's a sort of compulsion that leads them to create. It's not about money or fame or anything other than the love the making their art that makes them continue... art for art's sake. There's a lot of musicians that fall into that category of artist, but the mainstream hasn't always been receptive of their work in the past. <!-- -->
Just a quick note to say that I've decided to extend the deadline for this months Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll. Just didn't think there was enough of interest to really merit a full carnival this month, so we'll let it go for another month and see what turns up. Check back soon, Take care, D.A.N. Who thinks I need to go to more concerts? I absolutely do... especially when they're as great as the one I went to earlier this month. In early April here in Chicago, I finally got to witness in person the massive awesomeness that is a Queens of the Stone Age live concert. <!-- -->
This is the thirty-sixth in a series of Rock & Roll features I'm writing for this site. I'm a rock and roller, so this column is a way for me to feature a different album that I like, from different genres every month. <!-- --> read more
Well I've finally gotten around to being able to put together another Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll and although the number of submissions was actually quite high, it was unfortunately plagued with spam and things far, FAR off topic. Nothing against those people who submitted something off topic, but they don't get to be part of the carnival. <!-- --> read more
Unfortunately it looks as if we're going to have to postpone the carnival of Rock 'n' Roll for this month... personally I blame real life most of all. It's ok though as this gives plenty of time to accumulate more interesting posts from more interesting places. The next carnival of rock and roll will run on April 1st... please stay tuned. Take care, D.A.N. <!-- --> read more
As someone who considers themselves something of a collector when it comes to music, there always seems to be an album or two that I can't seem to track down both in good condition and for a price I'm willing to pay. <!-- --> read more
Anyone who's ever been to a really great rock and roll concert can probably tell you... it's more than "just a concert". No. the good ones can border on a sort of mystical experience where magical things happen and time seems to stand still, albeit just for a moment... even if it's a sober moment. <!-- --> read more

Even though my hometown and I have recently been buried under roughly 20 inches of snow (that's no joke or exaggeration, there literally was 20 inches that fell in 2 days and drifts of 3+ feet I shoveled from my driveway) I can smell something fun in the air. <!-- --> read more

It's been a good 5 years since we had new music from the band that brought the sounds of 60s garage rock back to the mainstream, but they're coming back with new music this spring. That's right, the Strokes have recently announced that their new album, tentatively titled "Angels", is supposed to be released March 21 2011. <!-- --> read more

And rising from the ashes of an... let's say interesting... year of 2010, we have the first Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll of 2011. In fact this is more than just the first carnival of 2011, but the first of what I am hoping is a bit of a rebirth for the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll. <!-- --> read more
Well I decided to push this month's carnival back and start fresh come 2011, due to time constraints and a number of things out of my control at the moment. Nothing serious, but time consuming. Anyways, the next Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll will be published in January 2011, including posts submitted for the most recently carnival. Carnival of Rock and Roll–November 2010 Alright, finally time to put together another Carnival of Rock 'n' Roll. There has been plenty of submissions, a few that seemed pretty hilariously cynical (who am I to judge, but unfortunately not exactly on topic) and lots to weed out actually from two months worth of stuff... still more than few that were pretty cool... so here we go. I think it's nice to see some forms of what could be called "unique protest" out their in the music scenes today... protests against the mediocrity that's being released in so many cases. Advertisement: <!-- --> read more
