The Dead Weather Has A Storm Raging

The Dead Weather Has A Storm Raging Happy Friday! To help you kick off the weekend, we've got our hands on some yummy exclusive live footage of The Dead Weather performing at The Roxy in Los Angeles. The newest project from Jack White - you know, that Detroit guy (now Nashville) from The White Stripes and the Raconteurs and six more bands by the time you read this, probably - is off and running. Their debut album, Horehound , was just released and critics have called it "sexy" and "snaky." An intriguing combination, indeed. For more live footage, tune in to [...]

New Video: Band of Skulls - “I Know What I Am”

New Video: Band of Skulls - “I Know What I Am” Sometimes, live performance music videos risk being boring, but throw in a bright, kaleidoscopic backdrop and it can be instantly revived. This is the case for Band of Skulls' "I Know What I Am." The song is the first single from the British band's debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey . Band of Skulls is currently on tour in the United States until the end of August. While you wait for the newcomers to appear near you, watch them prove that they know who they are in their new video for "I Know What I Am."

Jack of all Trades

Jack of all Trades Jack White just announced that his record label, Third Man Records, will be offering music throughout the year on a subscription basis. He named this venture "The Vault". It's about $200 bucks a year, but before you choke - you will be receiving some pretty incredible treats. We're pretty certain Jack will hold up his end of the bargain! His newish band The Dead Weather drop their debut record July 14th. Can Jack do no wrong? Full details here

MGMT: Flaming Lips & Sir Paul, To Boot

MGMT: Flaming Lips & Sir Paul, To Boot As if 2008 wasn't a big enough year for MGMT , 2009 has gotten even bigger. Most know MGMT for the psychedelic pop chords found in songs such as "Kids." Last week, The Flaming Lips confirmed that MGMT will be among the guests appearing on their next album, Embryonic . This comes after the announcement about MGMT opening two of Sir Paul McCartney 's shows at Boston's Fenway Park in August. The Beatles legend told U.K. blogger Zoe Griffin earlier this month he likes MGMT and would like to work on "some more [...]

Passion Pit Foodies

Passion Pit Foodies SubT favorites, Passion Pit, take some time from their ultra-busy dance schedule to discuss Table Manners, Burritos, Bubblegum and Lucky Charms. Wonder if these dudes recommend dancing on a full stomach?

Miike Snow: “Song for No One” (Live at KCRW)

The unofficial official sound of summer at SubT Towers has suddenly turned into a two-horse race; while Phoenix's absolutely unimpeachable "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" has the early lead, NYC/Sweden trio Miike Snow are challenging hard from the outside. They haven't made a video yet but they recently droped into KCRW for a 2-song studio session where they ran through "Black and Blue" and "Song For No One". The latter -in all it's sun-drenched glory- is above and is the best Peter Bjorn & John song that they never did.

The Big Pink: “Velvet”

Are you guys messing with The Big Pink yet? If not I suggest you get stuck into their Myspace page and get a taste of what hyperbole kings NME call (in the nicest way possible) " a druggy, malodorous drone ". If you were to find a blender large enough to safely put My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, The Jesus & Mary Chain and Lansing-Dreiden in without killing them this band might well be the result. But don't count on drinking this through a straw; a mix this rich & soupy needs a spoon for sure.

Simian Mobile Disco “Audacity of Huge”

We're well aware that Monday morning may not be the optimal time for Saturday night music; it's hard enough to get the week going without a bassed-out reminder of happier times aka "the weekend" slapping you in the face first thing. Sorry, but we do what we must in the name of attractive videos. "Audacity of Huge" is the latest offering from Simian Mobile Disco and it comes packaged in a clip that can only be described as see-and-say abstract art. Literal and figurative at the same time, it's like a pop-art video flashcard constructed by the world's [...]

Last Night’s Show With Tapes ‘n Tapes

In case you missed it because you were too busy working on your " Obaminoes " mural to watch.

Phoenix: “1901″ (Live From It’s On With Alexa Chung)

French it-band of the moment -which is a title they seem to regain every time they release an album- Phoenix stopped by the MTV mothership yesterday to kick out an uber-special, quasi-acoustic rendition of "19013 on It's On With Alexa Chung . They also did Letterman as well where they plugged in and rocked out but they did it sans boombox so by our assessment the MTV performance gets an extra 2 points for style.

Director’s Dozen: Patrick Daughters

From time to time we like to get all playlisty and throw more than our typical tasty morsel at you. This is nice, multi-course meal that should leave you feeling like you just had Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner in one sitting so you might think about loosing the denim and reaching for the sweat pants. Director Patrick Daughters is like a new-school Spike Jonze; an artsy, accessible and successful filmaker with a portfolio so achingly hip that it makes Sundance look like a student film night. In the past 5 years he's knocked out stunning clips by [...]

St. Vincent “Actor Out of Work”

Remember that video for St.Vincent's "Actor Out of Work"? The real intense one with the crying and the drama and the yadda yadda yadda? If you're like us you know it's a great song but the visual might be a bit much for your sensitive self. So take it in again but this time in an acoustic fashion without all the shvitzing.

Beirut: Concubine

In which the maudlin Albuquerque band somehow manage to make a video with cowboy children, dogs on roofs and a Gene Simmons impersonator with a removable tongue come off kinda sad instead of fun.

This Week’s Hosts: Tapes n’ Tapes

Have you ever bee robbed? It totally sucks; it's even worse than that Will Ferrell Land of the Lost film that just came out. And even worse than that would be getting robbed in a foreign country. Who does that happen to? This week's host Tapes n' Tapes apparently, who got totally jacked the last time they went to the beach in Australia. Damn you Mad Max, we can't turn our backs on you for even a second can we?

Dinosaur Jr: Over It

Disclaimer: No geriatrics were harmed in the making of this video. All stunts were performed by experienced stuntmen, possibly the borrowed from the set of the latest Doves video .

Doves “Winter Hill”

If asked we would say that Doves are one of the least action sports-friendly bands going. But no one asked us, least of all the band, so here we are with a clip that looks like a viral advert for an event sponsored by Red Bull to air on ESPN. [via Stereogum ]

Twin Cities Week on MTV2!

As we mentioned last week when dropped an SWM bomb on your beautiful behinds, this week is Twin Cities Week. Which twin cities? Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN...home of Prince, The Replacements, Tapes 'n Tapes, Atmosphere, P.O.S. and a whole mess of forward-thinking MC's on the Rhymesayers label. The latter recently threw the Soundset '09 Festival in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" and from all reports it was a cavalcade of avant-rap innovation and -shockingly- sunshine. But why take our word for it when you can get the skinny from Slug, P.O.S. and Brother Ali? (That's a rhetorical [...]

Micachu & the Shapes: “Golden Phone”

Does this song make you happy? Does it make you want to skip around and sing along in whatever language this is in (we're not sure but it sounds like a made-up half-English, half-French)? Does it make you yearn for your very own fake zebra print backdrop? No? It's just us? Oh...
