Here are a few shows that I missed posting before. Laziness? Probably. It's not all the shows from July because one was terrible and one had technical problems, but it's a little bit of what you've missed. Enjoy!((Excuse the ugly formatting. I can never make things show up the way they should in wordpress.)) July 1: 60 minutes, starting with the Michael Jackson tribute! July 15: This is a full show- not bad either tracklist after the jump July 22: [...]

I was up at 6:00 AM, in the comfort of my bed, to watch the festivities of Punxsutawney, PA, and the prediction of six more weeks of winter! By this point everyone's tired of winter, so I'll pretend I don't mind it (though a few warm days would be nice). The activities started with a disturbing edition of The (Almost) Newlywed Game that culminated in a marriage proposal by one of the men. "I want to spend every Groundhog Day with you." After that it was time for the YMCA, featuring two guys from New Jersey. One reporter [...]

Enjoy new music from Harlem Shakes , who will most definitely find their way on to the Phillips Family Fun Time Show. Harlem Shakes - Strictly Game

If you've ever wondered why you'll always sing along to "Lovefool," whether mentally or out loud, you should know that it's all because of Nina Persson's voice. The music's catchy, but the success of The Cardigans has a great deal to do with that sweet, airy voice pulling you through whatever mood the music is producing. The first time I heard her more laid back side project A Camp was on the Boys Don't Cry soundtrack. The twangy psychedelia of the music was rested to ease by Persson's voice, making it a perfect Texas desert song, [...]

First and foremost, please know that I did NOT do it, for sho. I'm posting this song because in an ironic way the 70's soul/Boyz II Men voiceover in this song rules my mind . I know I like Anthony Hamilton's will through his music. He continues making albums that have sweet R&B soul without getting too deep into the R. Kelly-style, flimsy pop sound. I mean come on, he speaks out against Beyonce's #1 hit last year on this tune, so you know he's for real. The Point of it All is available now [...]

I told myself I'd work on getting my class organized today, but lat night I decided I wanted to make a hot breakfast. After a Facebook poll I cooked up some chocolate milk french toast, which was less chocolatey than I expected, but still tasty. I'd guess the ingredients were... 4 pieces of bread 2 eggs 1/4 cup of milk? maybe more 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp chocolate milk powder So maybe I should've skipped the vanilla, huh? Next time... I added apples to [...]

Are my 2008/9 Bound Stems. I can't explain it, but I keep listening to their Drunk Like Bible Times album over and over again. This is the second fairly mainstream sounding rock band I've posted in a row, which is fine by me, but I'll try to diversify. It's worth it anyway, since good is good, regardless of genres or walls. Music like this makes me wonder why the band's not on the radio and rich, but who needs that baggage these days? A core of faithful fans seems much more respectable. "If Not for My Glasses" [...]

Slimming Mirrors, Flattering Lights , from The Awkward Stage, came out in the summer, but I never got to jear it until a few weeks ago. I should've heard it sooner, but don't mind that I didn't. It's not a credit to the quality, because the record is amazingly well-written considering the equally crafted Heaven is for Easy Girls only came two years ago. Sure, you expect a new album in two years, but this good? I admit, I didn't think it would happen. I'm officially impressed by Shane Nelken. The record captures selfishness, envy, and [...]
Marissa Phillips returns for the second show of 2009, influencing our playlist with her suggestion of Robots in Disguise. As usual, her presence also influenced my selections in adding Juvelen, Matt & Kim, and Muscles' acoustic version of "Ice Cream." All that, plus new Awkward Stage and Coconut records, and our standbys in Throw Me the Statue, Johnny Foreigner, Born Ruffians, and many more. Just listen to it and relish in the amazing experience (with the occasional silent slip-ups). Download it

I'm embarking on a new challenge in life by teaching college students. I've worked in college for a while, but not actually teaching students. I'm taking this opportunity to post a song that I've wanted to post for a very long time, but never had a reason or the ability to stomach potential embarrassment. I don't expect anyone in my class to be hot for me now or ever, but I can't resist enjoying the stylings of Van Halen (not Van Hagar- Where are you Joe Baldasare?). I give you "Hot for Teacher." Van Halen - [...]
You may remember, on my last blog that blew up to hell, the reasons why 6ABC's Erica Grow and I would be a great couple. Well the blog died, but I still think things could work out for a busy career woman with a big heart. I remember one reason was that she likes dogs. I like dogs too. And she's a weatherperson and I'm always watching the weather. I will honestly say that I don't believe the weather from anyone else but her. I go home to visit the family, but weekends with Erica Grow talking about wind chill [...]

The Phillips Family returned for 2009 (finally). We'll be touch and go through the Winter/Spring months, but whenever we can get on, we'll be sure to rock it out for ya. This edition of the Phillips Family Fun Time show found me flying solo, but having plenty of fun doing it. It's the first time every song was pre-selected and pre-ordered before the start of the show. That made the playlist, after the jump, a piece of cake to compile. Hope you love the show, including the set dedicated to Marissa in her absence (the start of the third hour). [...]
Not that anyone in particular is interacting here, but I'd love any suggestions for things to do at stop lights. I find myself at stop lights all the time and I've gotten to hate them passionately. I figure this is a problem of mine and I could do something about it- to sort of turn it around- but I'm not sure what. Suggestions? Google only gives pranks. At the very least, this will remind me to work on a solution later. So much wasted time that I'd rather waste at home.

Yanked off the Perdue Short Cuts insert, here's some brocoli and chicken pizza thing. I ate it. 1 Package carved chicken breast (I used the Southwestern Style from Perdue Short Cuts. It's really just about a cup of chopped up, spiced up chicken) 1 12-inch pizza crust (first time I've worked with a pizza crust... look out) Some pizza sauce- like enough to spread over the pizza crust. About 10 oz (1.25 cups) of frozen, chopped up broccoli, thawed and "squeezed dry" 1 Cup shredded mozarella cheese [...]
I felt uncomfortable playing this song on the Phillips Family Fun Time Show this year, but now I feel even more uncomfortable because I found out it has a video. Marissa should love this... especially the mailman.
I'm pretty sure everyone should listen to this past week's edition of This American Life . You can seek about 20 sweet minutes into the episode (though the entire hour is well worth the time) to reach the piece about the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas. It's pretty long at 27 minutes, but it's not until the end when you stop going "What?!" and start going "Oooh... shit..." At least I did anyway. Act Three. Santa Fight Club. A tale of two Santas. There's Tim Conaghan, a full-time professional [...]

Merry Christmas to you, blog. For this holiday I decided to switch servers and have Dot5Hosting give me one last kick in the ass by having their tools compress my old blog in some obscure format that no one can read for free. Now I'm with a new host and glad to be done with those past jerks. We should actually be online all the time now, which is a nice change. And a gift to you? Don't be so selfish, I'm getting there. On December 10 Marissa and I had to do our earlybird Christmas show because [...]

We were back to "normal" with the show this time around. It was a good one. We had plenty of new stuff and just enough of our classic material. Featuring robot accusations and ABC in the first 15 minutes, give this one a listen. Download it here or listen below...

Today I lack the level of contentment that came with finishing the Halloween show. It was a lot of work that haphazardly came together well at the end. Featuring tons of goodness and a playlist that I left on my home computer (I'll add it later). Enjoy the fright... Download this sucka...
