I renewed my lease, which isn't a good thing. I did it on a month-to-month basis, which is a good thing. I'm panicking about how much I could make somewhere. I'm freaking out because I don't even know what jobs I can do, which makes it hard to look for them. I need some advice and someone to talk to. I'm starting to get upset. I want a clear head so I can write two movies. If anyone can provide anything mentioned above, please leave some comment.

John & John are back to adult recording for the time being. The Else is a record that critics are going to be hard on for some reason. Fans will embrace it and radio may even play a song or two (though I severely doubt it outside the college arena). The record is a return to the old days for TMBG. While I thoroughly enjoyed the experimental aspects of Mink Car , lots of people thought it was a weak effort. If an artist takes chances, I think it's hardly a waste. However, the kids stuff that [...]

I never really gave Belle & Sebastian a listen in their hey-day. I was more into radio stuff then. High Fidelity called them "sad bastard music," and I just assumed they'd be right. Then I accidentally heard this tune and I'm much more likely to give them a try later on. This song's an epic story and it's got this retro dance feel in most of the movements. People say it's a spy song, but who isn't a spy anymore? We all end up pretending to be something we're not at one time or another. The lyrics are [...]

This was good and quite long. My favorite song I played was Twang and Mike Skinner's "Either Way," mostly because of the second chorus. Listen to it below and follow along with the second chorus lyrics below-er. The rest of the show's tracklist is after the jump. [See post to listen to audio] I was glad I turned the corner man, Cause I was sick of feelin' rough, I was getting paranoid about the silliest of stuff. I was at [...]

Q. If you could sing karaoke to any song, what would it be (and why)? A. "Joey" by Concrete Blonde ( download it ). The why is pretty stupid in light of the song being so heavy and serious. "Does it remind you of someone you love that you've lost?" "Have you been in a relationship with an alcoholic?" "Did you date a girl named Joey like on Dawson's Creek ?" "Do you date dudes? Because I know a guy..." The answer to all of those questions is "No." The truth is that I hadn't heard the [...]

Sometimes I get excited about a band. This is one of 'em. On their myspace page they list Dr Dre, Chet Baker, Two Tone, Bowie, Andre 3000, The Lemonheads, and J Dilla as influences. You can actually hear them each, as influences, in their music. Chet Baker! Their sound is really just perfectly marketable. They can appeal to anyone, but it doesn't seem like many people are listening just yet. Sometimes they do sound too poppy to be hip. Other times they sound too hip to be ignored. I'm digging these songs so much it's getting hard to [...]

I don't know much about Why? at all. I only know that I sampled one song ( "Yo Yo Bye Bye" ) and loved it. The guys seem like indie rockers with a dose of good pop sensibilities (who make their home on a notoriously hip-hop label). Moreover 1 these guys are clever. If you ask me, they're on a hip-hop label because no matter how you deliver a line- singing or rapping- if you make it a clever rhyme, a rapper/songwriter must respect that talent. I'm [...]

Shawna Hershberger reminded me of Pepper's Ghost today on her facebook favorite music. I used to be really into Philadelphia music, but it sort of faded off when I got to Wilkes-Barre. Pepper's Ghost was one of those great bands from back then (Tabloid Nation, Bonehead, K-Floor, Wise & Foolish Builders, May Meyer, John Faye Power Trip too). I never got to catch them live, though I was often close. I had no idea they'd still be around- I figured they would've broken up or changed names (Tabloid Nation, Bonehead to Familiar 48, K-Floor, W&F B, Max Meyer, and JFPT [...]

I didn't post much in a while. I was off doing nothing really. I spent the nights of last week rehearsing the role of Jesus' voice for the Palm Sunday live Passion at King's. It went well. What's better is that the people in it restored my faith in humanity by just being nice. You don't know how much you miss nice people until you find some and they make you nicer. I heard this new song from a little band called The Switches. They're going to have this one song, "Lay Down the Law," [...]
Can anyone out there tell me a meaning for the term "taco kisses" besides the one a perverted mind and Urban Dictionary has? I can't tell anyone how I heard the term until I make up with a good enough lie. I never used to lie. It's just something to do anymore. The sun's out in Wilkes-Barre and it's significantly improved my mood. I should move to a sunnier location, huh? When they start buying some scripts, I'll move to Hollywood, then get my cruiseship and/or ranch. Life will be good...

I like Man Man. They're from Philadelphia and they're weird. Not that "I like soccer" or "I like old horror movies" weird- like real weird. I can only trace a couple of their songs back to actually having a precise meaning. The rest sound like nonsense and noise, but beautiful noise. Mathematicians and Man Man are the only two groups of people who know what real chaos is. Both can keep it simple and real too, like this Etta James cover (her best, I have to say). It's a straightforward take on the original and I love that [...]

Yeah, yeah, you know "Pepper," whatever. So I'm trying to resist biting my fingernails. It's really hard because I feel this sensation on my fingertips pushing against the keys right now. It's the fingernails. I feel like I have strange hard things at the ends of my fingers and they don't belong. Oh, I left my thumbs out of this go-around. I'm trying, but if I have to break, it's for thumbs. So far I have fingernails, but they don't talk to me or dance or shoot colorful beams across the room. I don't know why I'm not [...]

Since I'll be doing the VOICE of Jesus (thank you Jesus!) in next week's Passion portrayal at King's, I thought I'd post a sort of Christ-y song. It's not about Jesus, but it's a great story with so much romanticism and innocence. It captures the fleeting love of the many and the small joys of the few. It's off of The Meaning of 8 , which is an all around great record to listen to because of the passion in the singers and the stories in the songs. It's like the vocal simplicity of Ghost Mice (Marissa) and the [...]

This isn't particularly new from Feable Weiner, but it's off of their new record, which I'm anxiously awaiting. It's a poppy punk song with crunching guitars and funny lyrics. The words are also catchy, using variations on syntax to change sentiments, being clever and infectious at the same time. I don't often get to go to parties and this song describes why. Feable Weiner also wished me a happy birthday a few weeks ago via myspace , so they're not only amazing rock, but good to their fans. Dear Hot Chick is a staple in [...]
