The Hill
Absolutely can not listen to the Once soundtrack enough. This song is one of my favorites. It's titled "The Hill" by Marketa Irglova . If you haven't seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and go rent it now. It's the best musical movie I may have ever seen.

Featured Artist :: Over the Rhine

Featured Artist :: Over the Rhine This year, MMB is going to feature 3 songs from an already somewhat established artist...but should definitely be heard by music lovers due to the greatness of their work. The first band highlighted is Over the Rhine . The Cincinnati based band's latest cd Trumpet Child is one of the best cds from 2007. OTR has put out strong cd after strong cd for years on end; never settling into one sound or genre and always reinventing their sound. Led by Linford Detweiller and Karen Bergquist, OTR is one [...]

Great Northern :: "Low is a Height"

Great Northern - Low is a Height video
January always makes feel as though my life is in slow motion. The first track of the year, Great Northern's "Low is a Height" , could be the soundtrack for a guy having an emotional breakdown...which you know, it's that time of year.

Sorry about the long layoff. New Years Hangover.

I'm going to change the focus of MMB just a bit for 2008. Instead of focusing only on new, unheard of artists, I'm also going to feature new works from established musicians that readers may or may not already know. The reason being, in 2007, I found myself not listening to talented artists I love in lieu of trying to find and break the next great new artist. While MMB will still be dedicated to finding the next great unknown, I just can't not listen to artists I love just because they've actually already had some publicity in the past. [...]

Lightning Dust :: "Highway"

"Highway" by Lightning Dust
There's something Blair-Witchy-creepy-good about this track from the band Lightning Dust . It's a track from their self-titled disc which came out back in June. Turn the lights on and take a listen.

Ben Folds :: "Still Fighting It"

Ben Folds- Still Fighting It
This is off of Ben Fold' s 2001 disc Rockin' the Suburbs . Found myself listening to this one a lot since the birth of my own son.

A Fine Frenzy :: "Almost Lover"

A Fine Frenzy - Almost Lover
This is the third time MMB has featured a tune by A Fine Frenzy this year. Her One Cell in the Sea disc is one of the best of year. Enjoy "Almost Lover" by this immensely talented young artist.

Stephen Fretwell :: "Emily"

Stephen Fretwell - Emily
This is an older song from Stephen Fretwell , however I found myself singing it when I woke up this morning. It's the title track from his ep Emily . In September, the Manchester UK artist released a full length cd Man on the Roof . You can listen to a few tracks from the new release on his MySpace page. In the meantime, enjoy reminiscing about that someone who may or not be named Emily, but we've all [...]
