No more podcasts... yeah. But I still listen to music and still want to share. Thus... a new (less time-consuming) format. I've posted on specific bands before. I want to continue this with this new format – a simple profile with minimal text. Just the band name, some basic info, a photo and a few tracks that can be streamed on the site. Occasionally, I'll include a video or a downloadable mp3 track. Let's give it a try.... Houses - Soak it [...]
Well, perhaps this has been the case for some time now but I thought I'd make it official. There will be no more episodes of the New Balearic podcast. I was hoping to make one more last episode, but alas... no time even for that. It's time to focus on my school work, an upcoming career, and eventually... a new addition to the family. Thanks to all who listened... it's been wonderful.
The NB episode production rate is increasing ever so slightly. At this rate we may be back at a podcast a month.... What a summer it's been for music! Fantastic albums are being released... bands are touring... and festivals are on. The Arcade Fire are consuming all of the headlines recently - having picked up the number one spot for record sales recently. Coincidently, their new album Suburbs is a combination of my two passions: music and urban studies. Menomena and The Books have also [...]
As promised, I've finally gotten around to making the first episode of the New Balearic this year... in June. The first half of 2010 has demanded lengthy papers and in-depth projects, a handful of Maritime trips, and daily World Cup commitments (Hup Holland)... all of which have distracted me from my podcast duty. The second half of 2010 looks equally as busy, but I'll be more shrewd with my time and keep regular updates. Well then.... music! It's been a great year so far. Great new bands have emerged and old favourites have released new material. New to [...]
Well, yet again its been some time since the last post. Graduate studies and recent Maritime traveling have rendered my other interests "sporadic-at-best". However, a fantastic podcast is in the works and regular instalments will hopefully be coming sooner than later. In the meantime, enjoy a new video from this summer's new West Coast, electro-dream-pop sensation, Teen Daze . His music has attracted the likes of a certain Pitchfork Media (about half a dozen times), as well as other online music weblogs. More from him later. Download [...]

Well, I was hoping to get this one off a little earlier, but at least I finished it. There is some fantastic music on this episode, including two amazing Boards of Canada-esqe tracks from California's Tycho . The episode also continues where Episode 26 left off, including more tracks from Fleet Foxes , Tapes N' Tapes , and Peter Moren (of Peter, Bjorn and John). New Balearic faves Booka Shade return with a hot track off their upcoming LP The Sun & The Neon Light and Thomas Melchior also returns with [...]

I find it so ironic that I chose a first aid box as the photo for the last episode way back in January. The New Balearic could not have been more sick in the past few months. First, the site got hacked due to some weak security from my former web host, which took about a month to figure out, and then I was forced to change web hosts apon which a lot of my data and former posts were lost (perhaps temporarily). Anyways, there were times when I thought this could be the end of TNB, but [...]
Well, the casualties were high, and the process was long, but there is finally some resemblance of the former self for thenewbalearic.com. After about 2 barren months without a podcast (and a website), and with the help of some good friends, the site is back. It'll be getting more organized in the days to come, and there is still no podcast, but mark my words.... I have some good music that has been dying to be heard! Stay tuned friends!

This song is called "Letter From God to Man" and was posted on their website as a free download, so I hope they don't mind that I post it on here. Check it out: Hey There, how, how's it going? Long time no see. I know I haven't been around much lately But…it didn't seem like you wanted me to be The last time I sent down a message you nailed it to the cross So I figured I'd just leave you to it, let you be your own boss But [...]

The New Balearic is still healthy at the quarter-century mark. Apologies for another delayed episode. I've been busy with lists, mixes, and whatnot. 25 is medicine for your ears. There's nothing too inaccessible on this mix, and features beautifully swooning tracks from Modelselektor , Minilogue , Pantha du Prince , and Radiohead . Music from Pale Young Gentlemen , The Magician (formerly El Mago), and Sea Wolf fulfill my folk obligations on this effort, and Monosylabikk , Sixtoo , and Punkt perform some fantastic [...]

On Monday, January 21, 2008, my long time friend, cousin-in-law, and former roommate got married. I was in Korea. It sucked. But I made him some mixes for his wedding. Unfortunately, only a few minutes of one mix got played before the Keith Urban and Weezer requests began to flood the DJ. BUT rather than let these mixes drift into the abyss, I figured I'd post them here for your enjoyment, and also as a toast to the newlyweds. The first mix is more vocal-based and includes alot of the groom's favourites. The second mix is purely [...]
The top tracks of 2007 in just under two hours. Too long for a mix in my opinion, but maybe you'll enjoy it anyways, or at least parts of it. Cheers to 007! These songs aren't in the actual order, but I think they maintain sort of chart-like cohesiveness. Tracklisting: (1 hour, 20 minutes) Burial - 'Etched Headplate' ( [...]

Thanks for the music, 2007. 2007 was another big year for The New Balearic. I can't believe this has been going on for almost 2 years now. Thank you for listening. Tell your friends! As a neat way to wrap up the year, I decided to compile a list of my fifty favourite tracks of the year, and my ten favourite albums of the year. Original? No. Necessary? Absolutely! I couldn't devote enough time to the year-end-list (compared to last year), so as a result the list may be a little half-assed. [...]

I promised festive and I believe I have failed to deliver. There's still nothing festive about this episode, again. Neverthless, I'm betting that most of you back in North America are already so sick of "festive" being shoved down your throat and are OK with a "festive"-less episode 24. I did, however, focus a little more on the folk/folktronica in this one, with songs and bands from all over the world, including some more amazing stuff from Japan (Shugo Tokumaru and Motohiro Nakashima) , some West-coast Canadian folk from Dan Bejar's new project Hello, Blue [...]

Here is a small 25 minute gift of smashing electronic tracks that have been burning holes in my speakers… a merry xmix if you will. Not your usual Christmas tunes, but perhaps the next full episode will be a little more festive. Tracklisting: (25 minutes) Slagsmalsklubben - 'Hant' Gentleman Drivers - [...]
