No matter how hard I try, I will forever be at least two-and-a-half-ish weeks behind our inbox. I go through the mail every week, and every week I'm left with a bunch of stuff I want to investigate further. So I download what's available, put it on my iPod, and let it play for a while to see what I think of it. This system is a little clunky and slow, but it gets the job done. Luckily, this band sent us mail well in advance of their new release so even if did take me almost a whole month, [...]

Hey, Hospital Bombers - where are you? I've never written about the Hospital Bombers before which is stupid, because they're one of my very favorite bands. I should've mentioned them way back in 2008-ish when they released their debut album, Footnotes - it was in the top 3 albums of the year on that list I kind of made but never published. I loved Footnotes immediately, but I think I love it even more now than I did then. But then they kind of disappeared. I kept checking, for a long time, for [...]

Things have been a bit slack here at 100b but I've been getting back into the flow, starting with cleaning up our extremely backed up inbox. I spent a lot of time last week going through a million mails and listening to a lot of music, both good and not so much, and I have a lot I'd like to share with you as soon as I can. But I couldn't wait on this one, it's just too great to sit in our inbox all lonely and neglected. Up there in the Top 5 Things I've Ever Found In The [...]

Once upon a long, long time ago, I was sent out this book to have a read and review. Then there was all this real life stuff and 100b was pretty much abandoned, book reviewing and all. Many apologies to all involved and I'd almost call it too late to bother, but a deal is a deal. Plus, I just found out that this book will be newly available in paperback in October, so I'm going to call it better late than never. The book in question is Robert Hilburn's Corn Flakes [...]

I haven't had a chance to hear the new ( out now for download , on the 31st on CD ) Dan Sartain album, Dan Sartain Lives yet, but his new single is out and about, making the rounds. And just as we expect from Dan Sartain, it's fast and furious. No, it's not really a change for Sartain, he pretty much always sounds the way he does. But for a very few artists, that's actually ok - I don't really need him to be anything but rockabilly mayhem, as long as he continues to [...]

His genres may range from World War II westerns to martial-arts, revenge epics to Grindhouse, exploitation-inspired, slasher flicks, Quentin Tarantino’s signature directing style is like a blinking, whooping, neon sign. From the first scene he transports us to another world that is very much his own. From the dialogue, to his personal tastes in movies, music, comics and random stuff like cars and outfits to the teeniest props, not one of the meticulous details is an accident. There always seems to be a story behind something as seemingly trivial as a strategically placed styrofoam cup or the hairstyle a minor [...]

Hey kids, guess what?? It's Bean's birthday!! So put out the streamers, eat a cupcake and bring on the parade. Happy Birthday my dear, dear friend. Remember: if you ever feel so happy you land in jail - I'm your bail. I hope you have a magical day!

With this post, I introduce a new weekly post here at 100b: Friday Favorite. Whatever my favorite song of the week is, it'll be here on Friday. It might be brand-spankin' new, it might be 20 years old, but it'll be here and left to speak for itself. No write-up, no analysis, just good musics. I'm sure if any of you are in the UK, or tuned in to UK-based music news at all, you'll have heard about the threatened closure of the BBC's 6music digital radio station. I was hugely disappointed when the closure plan was announced back in March, having just recently started to get back into listening to radio. I used to listen to 6music online, a little every day, to find out what was new, but I'd gotten out of the habit and it took a couple of years to get it back. (Which is, of course, [...]
