Vancouver-based duo WMNSTUDIES are known for transforming sultry R/B tracks into dance floor anthems. Their latest creation, a rework of Usher's 'Nice and Slow', is no different. It takes you back to a time when Usher wasn't involved in reality television programs hosted by Carson Daly, and what a glorious time that was. When I snagged Zachary Gray (left above) from The Zolas , backstage at his sold out show at the Vogue Theatre (with Calgary band The Dudes ), Zach was a little preoccupied, juggling his two "strapping Scandinavian" merch guys, getting family into the venue and he was being haunted by the ghost of legendary musician Prince (who had performed at the Vogue the night before). This is probably how I got him to spill all the details of his first girlfriend-among other things. Listen to our chat. the interview [...]
Russian synth-pop trio Tesla Boy is back with their sophomore effort, " The Universe Made of Darkness ." Full of 80s brass swells, growling basslines and sugary vocal hooks, it's tough to tell which is more pretty here - the group's hair or the production levels. Listeners will find this record is equally suited for a weekend either on the schooner or on the couch dusting off The Wizard . Check Broken Doll - the single featuring crooner Tyson that evokes a Sebastian meets Agent Provacateur sensibility - or just stream the [...]

Chicago producer GTW, real name James King, transforms a decent track from rapper Tink into a wondrous assortment of tribal beats and subtle house undertones coated in a rich r/b aesthetic. posted by @clarkbs

You know when you can't stop listening to a song for days on end that it drives you to the point of insanity? Thanks a lot, Lana, because you're making me crazy with "Queen Of Disaster". It leaked this past Friday, and it was my anthem the entire long weekend. As 602s soul/pop is essentially my favorite genre of all time, to nail a song in this style without it sounding cheesy, forced, or just plain stupid is a great feat. Plus, my dude friends were spinning like ballerinas to it all weekend. That's how you know you've got a [...]

It has been quite a long time since I deeply listened to some Rock that really impressed me, let alone local. A close friend of mine had told me that old High School buddies from New West had released some material under the name " Hillfolk " so once I got home I found one of them on Facebook and there it was. All of the members in this band are talented musicians so I was not surprised to find myself replaying the 3 tracks they've put out so far. The wide range of influences that they have completely shows [...]

The scary this is, Miguel looks good with his shirt off too. Posted by @clakbs

"Wus Good / Curious" is so densely layered that it constantly keeps you coming back for more. It starts off like any good make-out session, slow and sweet, and quickly turns into something unexpected, yet completely warranted by the end. Party Omo remains relatively anonymous on the interweb, but there is a cryptic Pinterest account as well as Twitter handle with over 3,000 followers and only four tweets. Now that's swag. There's rtumours that Party Omo is fucking with the OVO gang, which seems like a pretty good fit if you consider his/her [...]

Cashmere Cat is, to me (and guys like RAC ), one of the most exciting and unique musical acts to break through in a minute. The Norwegian's Mirror Maru EP on Pelican Fly and Ed Banger has been championed by the likes of Diplo and Annie Mac and so I did this litle edit for dj sets in the klerb.

Robin Daily is a Vancouver native but took Music Business & Production Emphasis in Nashville, Ten A Key. He made it quite clear with his first project that his sound was experimental and darker than the rest of the "Trap" that has been coming out in the past year. I personally wouldn't completely call him "Trap" but a experimental darker southern style of it. Four months ago he released his first project " optx " which had 2 great original pieces and 3 remixes including a very interesting take on Led Zeppelin's " No Quarter " & TI & Bun B's [...]

I really dig this remix by Wax Nostalgic. Another solid production from Toronto's WN, he really brings a relaxed summertime vibe with some extra syrup on them bongos to this mix. I'm always happy when I play this in a set. enjoy the sun. Posted by @savemeboots

Silver Wilkinson, the seventh album from multi-instrumentalist Bibio is here. The Brit has long been something of a producer's unicorn, prolific yet mysterious and inscrutable. Put this record on, make some sangria and ham/tomato sandwiches and go have a picnic at Prospect Point . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =De6GrveAjzo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =kmygV3C4tTE posted by @pat_lok
First post merrits a favourite artist, ye? Ye. Rancho Cucamonga's Brian Folk has quickly instilled a firm footing in my earballs. The overall swooniness of his catalog, full of remixes not too unlike this Grimes Bootleg dun did it. Hope yous guys enjoy. posted by G.Pop

Kurt Rockmore, who goes by KURT professionally, is an example of an artist I'd love to hang-out with. He recently emailed Winnie Cooper with "Humble Approach" as the subject line, even though he's opened for such acts as J.Cole, Ryan Leslie, Yo Gotti, Iggy Azeala, Joey Badass, and Action Bronson. His latest project - entitled Red Carpet Ignorance - was written entirely by KURT and features Bun B on the track Don't Need 'Em . He fuses hip-hop with R/B to create something that is lyrically honest but still worthy of mainstream attention. KURT is not only a [...]
