Oliver Nelson really comes hard with his take on one of my favorites Janelle Monae's "Tightrope' . The beat hit me right off the back, this serious ghetto funk/nu disco jam will get "yo booty shakin" all night long. Oh and Big Boi kills it too.... Posted by @savemeboots

2012 was a huge year for electronic pop-soul band Polica . They played Sasquatch, garnered praise from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, and released their first studio album "Give You the Ghost". Moreover, after a successful live show at the Biltmore Cabaret last August, the band is returning to Vancouver for another breathtaking performance at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club on April 7. Advanced tickets are $17 and they can be purchased online or at Red Cat, Zulu and Highlife Records. For a chance to win [...]

Jamie Lidell has been making music since I was in Junior High, and he continues to create culturally relevant material ten years and one University degree later. He blends old-school R&B with contemporary electronic beats to create a sound that is all his own. His latest self titled release consists of hard-driving dance tracks that are just funky enough to take you back in time. In support of his new album, Lidell is embarking on a North American tour that stops in Vancouver at Fortune Sound Club on April [...]

2011 was a big year for Vancouver’s Mother Mother , their third album Eureka gave the world my favorite Mother Mother track, “The Stand.” The band followed up Eureka with another solid release, The Sticks . When it came time to chat about The Sticks , MM 's frontman Ryan Guldemond (centre) chose to meet me at Cafe Deux Soleils , Commercial Drive's legendary vegetarian /coffee house / slam poetry / live venue. It turns out, Ryan has a history with Cafe Deux Soleils . Listen to [...]

SQUAD! Brick Squad makes it's return to Vancity. The Flockavelian one returns on April 8th to Fortune Sound Club, less than 6 months removed from his last Vancouer appearance at Commodore. It's interesting times for Waka right now. He released the hilariously covered Du Flocka Rant 2 last month, as we all wait for the apparently completed Flockaveli 2 later this year. I don't think anyone knows what the hell happened two weeks ago, when twitter beef broke out between Waka and Gucci Mane. First Gucci said Waka was dropped from Brick Squad, [...]
![Para One – Every Little Thing (feat. Cam’ron, Irfane & Tekilatex) [Canblaster Remix]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4850888_lg.jpg)
An early front runner for tune of the year on this unlikely collab from Marble heavy hitter Para One , Irfane (of Breakbot fame), Teki Latex (Sound Pellegrino/co-owner of the best Wednesday podcast on the internet) and just to top it off, anti-tattletale activist Cam'ron . The original flows well smooth but Club Cheval's Canblaster takes it over the top with his signature nu-jack flourish, sexy bassline work and unexpected key changes. France rides again. [...]

Kitty Pryde is one hot mess of an act. She has "been a bitch since 973, and hails from Daytona Beach... I wouldn't count on that being legitimate information though, and feel free to do some of your own research. Her branding is frustratingly inconsistent. "But that's the point, doy " - yes, thanks for making things easier for us. The show was good, and it helps that she is damn cute. Missing tones, screwing up, and acting unprofessional on stage are all part of the act; it was quite charming. Kitty is definitely [...]

Touring is a grueling necessity of band life. A necessary evil that can kill a band-especially when you're a bunch of teenagers, just learning about interacting with other people. Born Ruffians have gone thru this and their second record, Say It , became a record about communication problems in the band. I met up with Luke and Mitch where all the problems (and solutions) began-their tour van. Luke and Mitch were shy at first, but after a while I got them to talk candidly about [...]
