Yeah. So, it seems like once a year I lose my mobile, and I haven't backed up numbers since, um, the last time I lost my phone. I cannot for the life of me figure out where I could have lost it. Hand to Gawd, I had it in my bag when I left the Yuppie Chow Hall, and somewhere in between there and my house, it's vanished. It's relevant to note that I was relatively sober at the time. I'm hoping against hopes it shows up today, hidden somewhere silly. In the meantime, tell me [...]

So I'm not one to say anything, but you kids have been in need of some new threads for a while. I didn't want to say anything, cuz I'm a man of grace and subtlety. Yeah...right. As I was saying, here's a visual sampling of some of the new goods. All of these bad boys are available for purchase through my lovely friends at Red Bubble . They're a print shop out of Australia, and I chose them for their service and quality. I'll be dropping the remainder throughout the next couple weeks, [...]

Yup. This is fucking funny. Probably not work-safe though.
It's become a pain to have to explain this in a couple dozen emails a day, so here it is for sake of brevity: The first reason I've put the Sonic Fix on hiatus is that I wasn't getting enough good music sent my way. That's not to say I wasn't getting music, though. The second reason is that I've been buckling down and making art happen. When I'm in that mindset, something as simple as writing a couple paragraphs may as well be climbing Everest. The final and biggest reason was that I'm [...]

Reluctant Cube Farmer, 2008, digital art as giclee print, 323x203, limited to a single print. (Not so) Deep down, I'm a color theorist at heart. Gerhard Richter already did the wall covered with paint testers from Benjamin Moore , and DC already had its great color school movement . What's a boy to do? I'm also fixated on texture, obviously, and apparently I'm considered pretty good at drawing the characters that swim in my subconscious. This particular fella started out as a sort of sad sack, but the more [...]

You Make Love Like Everyone's An Enemy , 2008, Digital Art as Giclee Print, 303x403, single print edition. So I have been working on this piece for a couple months now. The working title was Mick Kelly , and the color scheme was entirely different-explosive reds and yellows and black, and I ambitiously considered printing this out and then using gold leaf to embellish it. Then I hit a creative stymie, and couldn't get the damn thing to work. I put her away, tried some other ideas, but the girl kept calling me [...]

I'm officially on the search for a new web host. My current provider has been having service issues that, when strung together, are really quite unacceptable. If I got the sense that the people working for my hosting service were genuinely apologetic and really scrambling to fix issues before they happened, I would be prone to stick with them. Instead, I get a half-apology that's obviously read from a script and no clear sign as to what the problem is or that anything's being done to prevent it in the future. So I'm fielding suggestions for [...]

I have no idea where this is, but I am SO there. I smell a roadtrip coming. Srsly. This place is a sort of Mecca. Just listen. Then take a sledgehammer to your Rihanna* CDs. Yeah, it's that simple. Betty Everett is better known for "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's In His Kiss)", but this track, co-written by Carole King , has been covered by the likes of Lulu , Dusty Springfield , Helen Reddy and King herself. I have all of those, but this [...]

I'm a bad homo in that I failed Musical Theatre Appreciation class. Srsly, every convention that's supposedly part of the musical's charm I find grating and affected. Perhaps that's the point, but I really, really loathe musicals and showtunes and pretty much everything attached to the genre. That said, I think I'm in love with Dr. Horrible and his sing-along blog . Mostly because I identify with the title character more than is probably healthy. Damn you, Joss Whedon ! And out of nowhere, Neil Patrick Harris has become one of my [...]

That means I'm really not able to write anything coherent because I'm busy, y'know, trying to put something sharp together. I really need to crank out the DCAC show, then I need to lock myself into my studio and stop putting off the eleven pieces of new art that I've got three-quarters done. Srsly. For those of you keeping score, Bon Qui Qui is out, mostly because I've heard too many douchebags at the Yuppie Chow Hall either misquoting it, or they're using it as an excuse to be a 'complicated order'. Not cute. [...]
...no Sonic Fix today. No time to write it down and organize files. If you must play in my yard, check out my archives.

So I'm doing the DC Arts Center Annual Open Show. Called 1460 Wallmountables, it opens on Friday July 18th and runs through August. The space is not without challenges, in that no single piece can exceed two feet in any direction, and I can't use paint or adhesives on my installation. I'll be showing off some smaller-scale artist proofs of some of the more current stuff I haven't shown yet- Please Please Please , ZOMG! , possibly Loudmouth -more as a way to see what they [...]

I tried to find out who the hell these Anoraak characters might be, as their music is scorchinghawtawesomebrilliant. This is what I managed to find out: 01. They're French . They play around with synthesizers, mixers and laptops on stage. No, they're not Daft Punk . 02. They're part of the Valerie music collective, which is a euphemism for being frighteningly obsessive a bit taken with all things creatively spawned in the 1980s. 03. They've opened for M83 , another French act that makes modern, [...]

Revolver 01, 2008, Digital art as giclee print, 153x103. Limited to a single print. This is my love note to DC now that its long-standing ban on concealed weapons has been deemed unconstitutional. After drawing that revolver graphic-an exercise in making the thing I draw have a retro polish, btw-I'm now a bit obsessed. Expect to see some more of these pieces as part of a small series.

Nice beard, artfag. Photo ripped off of credited to, um, artfag . Yeah, really. So I'll be at the opening of the MOCA Gallery show tonight , obviously. Come say hi. You should listen to this virtual mixtape full of goofy cheesetastic nostalgia. That's all I got. Enjoy. Chic - Le Freak Prince - Erotic City Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Can You [...]

I've been sitting on the Modern Guilt promo for a little while now. At first I wasn't even going to post it, because my first impression was that the Danger Mouse -produced effort was just sorta 'eh'. But this is typical in my opinion with Beck : I expect to be able to write him off, and the bastard grows on me. Modern Guilt may not be Beck's best album, but it's still a pretty strong piece of work. Retro flavor from '60s California psych-rock, deconstructed hip hop and beautiful folk smash [...]
Yes, apparently my sites were down for a good part of today. Yes, the web host I use promised to have it running in an hour, only for them to take four. Yes, I understand these things happen, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. Yes, I may be on the market for another web hosting company soon. Carry on.

(From left: Great Scott , some guy with a blog, A-Ron the DJ . Photo by The New Gay's Michael back in February.) 01. I'm showing a couple pieces as part of MOCA DC 's Celebration of the Figure VI . The show opens this Friday, with a reception from 6-9pm. The MOCA Gallery is located in Georgetown (1054 31st St NW WDC), and it ought to be pretty frakkin' awesome. 02. As part of the press machine for my artfaggotry, I was interviewed by [...]
