Oh, Hope Sandoval how I have yearned for new music from you. Beautiful as always. Lay Myself Down - Mazzy Star Common Burn/Lay Myself Down Single 2011

Jesse Marchant is a Montreal born musician who puts together some of the most beautiful guitar driven arrangements that are meticulous and so well thought out. He is the kind of song-writer that will put his everything into an album and then need to take a break for awhile to digest all the emotion that went into creating these songs. This first full length album is honest and absolutely wonderful. In A Different Time - JBM Not Even In July [...]

Speechless. Shake It Out - Florence + The Machine Ceremonials 2011 (Universal Republic) Regrets collect like old friends Here to relive your darkest moments I can see no way, I can see no way And all of the ghouls come out to play And every demon wants his pound of flesh But I like to keep some things to myself I like to keep my issues strong [...]

It is 6AM in the morning and I cannot even remember the last time I was up at this time but the special occasion today is that I am headed to Vegas to celebrate my best friends bachelorette party. I am so excited for this trip that has been in the making for longer than they have been engaged! So I thought I would send you off with something gritty and naughty from the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club . I hope everyone has an excellent week and I will think of you all while I am abusing my liver [...]

When I first heard the new third full length album from Wally De Backer I hated it. Literally turned it off and moved on. I didn't think I would come back to it at the time but I did. It has grown on me so much from the first listen. A dark and mysterious pop album that is quite unique. There are a few songs that I know will make my end of year list for sure, Eyes Wide Open, Somebody That I Used To Know and Smoke and Mirrors are amazing. The [...]

Tonight a song from Youth Lagoon to take us into the weekend. The verdict is still out on this debut pop album from Trevor Powers. I think it is still growing on me and I am giving it some well deserved time. Trevor Powers is currently on a 29 state tour that is coming to an end at the beginning of November, catch him while you can. It has been quiet around here... Right now I feel like I am being pulled into so many different directions and any down time I do have is dedicated [...]

So I am just now sitting down to talk about the James Vincent McMorrow show at the Bootleg Theater on September, 24th... First off, can I just say that the Bootleg Theater is my new favorite venue. Super intimate and chill, but also totally LA. I love it. And I am really excited that they are adding some of my favorite singer-songwriters to their event lineup. This is the same theater where I saw my dearest Alexi Murdoch . William [...]

This was unexpected. I never imagined I would hear Feist's new album and listen to it on constant repeat for an entire week straight. It took me off guard and has held me captive with the range of emotional intense arrangements such as the opening, The Bad In Each Other to the stark delicate melodies of, Cicadas And Gulls . Leslie Feist has gone big, this is far different from her last album, The Reminder and I guess I just didn't think it could get much better than that. [...]

I originally posted about Boy & Bear here . From the time I heard their single, Mexican Mavis I was obsessed. Their debut full length, Moonshine was released in August and I am in love. It exceeded my expectations. Their sound is big, with busy rhythms and soaring harmonies. Fantastic. I have an itch to see them live and I am in luck as they are currently on tour and in town next week . Check it. Moonshine [...]

The beginning of this week has just slipped right by me. I have a show review to share for James Vincent McMorrow, but that will have to wait until the weekend at this point. I am tied up with work and school and I am terribly behind in my class readings. This semester is proving to be a bit more difficult than I expected. Sigh. So how about some quirky atmospheric music from Mock Orange? I think that is a marvelous idea. Mock Orange has been creating music since 1998. Their latest full length album, [...]

So I am kind of obsessed with this song right now. CANT is the solo project of Grizzly Bear's bassist Chris Taylor. A collection of chilled out electronic melodies that will have you contemplating love, life and painful heartbreak. I found that I connected with this album instantly. It is bluesy, emotional and experimental and I like it. Believe - CANT Dreams Come True 2011 ( Terrible Records )

When I first heard the music of Blind Pilot in 2008 I knew immediately that it would go right onto my iPod. I was very pleased to hear they were recording a follow up. I wasn't surprised with how much I enjoy their new album, We Are The Tide . Their upbeat sing along American acoustic folk is at its best. Their music stands out to me among so much just like it. There is no one who sings with the sincerity and honesty of lead singer Israel Nebeker. He is matched with the gently plucked and [...]

I was looking forward to coming home and listening to some new music while zoning out in front of the computer, I couldn't wait. I think it is the only thing that got me through. The duo, Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor have really grown up on their second album, Paradise . Their sound has a much older vibe, filled with sultry vocals, soaring indie-pop sprinkled with just the right amount of folk to mellow it out. I am absolutely in love with this new album. You, Earth Or Ash - [...]

I was nothing but angry today... Annoyed at every little thing. Then end up more frustrated with myself because I am in this terrible mood. And I wonder why I can't pull myself out of it? An endless destructive cycle. But I can only hope that tomorrow will be a better one, I get another chance. I am working on becoming the person with the ability to change my attitude for the better before it spirals out of control. Sigh. Someday... Let Down - Radiohead [...]

I saw Zee Avi at an outdoor street festival in San Diego a few years back, you could hardly hear her sweet melodies over the loud shouting coming from an adjacent stage. It was so hot I thought I was going to melt into a puddle on the pavement. On Avi's new album she has grown quite a bit, her sound is more focused. Her jazzy, soulful vocals are blended with a folksy bluesy melody that is a breath of fresh air. Possible contender for a spot on my year end list? I think so. [...]

Time is slipping away. Shed Your Love - The Helio Sequence Keep Your Eyes Ahead 2008 ( Sub Pop ) Drank the dark wine of the New York night My shattered mind across the borderline Spent the night in someone else's arms Shed your love, shed your love Shed your love, shed your love On a subway train before the dawn The ride was short but my thoughts were [...]

Get Well Soon is the sophomore release of Sarabeth Tucek . A beautifully sad album filled with somber melodies, swelling electric guitars and Tucek's striking vocals that cut deep into your soul. Stunning. Oh how I needed this album tonight. I let it in and it stirred all this emotion around. I have to let go of a lot. The Fireman - Sarabeth Tucek Get Well Soon 2011 ( Sonic Cathedral )

There is something about Sharon Van Etten that is just perfection. Her angelic yet raspy vocals? Her poetic lyrics? The sorrow and raw emotion you feel in every song? It is all of it. She is all of it. SVE will be at The Hollywood Bowl with The National on September 11th and I would cut a bitch for some tickets, of course I would bandage the cut after to show no hard feelings and then be on my merry way. Save Yourself - Sharon Van [...]

Yesterday started out with a mauled dead cat from a coyote on the lawn (not mine), traffic and ended 12 hours later when I finally got home from the office. Yuck! Today is shaping up to be a much better day to say the least. My last weekend of the summer is beginning and I am planning to enjoy it to the fullest. Beach, drinks and the long awaited release of the new Untitled Records design. Finally making it official in hopes this will get my ass in gear to put in the work to release it this [...]
New song, new video, new love.
