There are few albums who seamlessly combine such beauty and emotion as Beirut did with The Gulag Orkestar . A masterpiece influenced by eastern European folk music that made your heart pound with excitement. But here we are, one year after its release and Zach Condon does it again. The Flying Club Cup is an homage to France's culture, history and music. Accordions, xylophones, French horns, organs, ukuleles, euphonium's, you [...]

Here's something I picked up from a Matt Pond PA fansite . It's from a phone conversation with Matt himself: I think we're the most slowly built band in all history, The O.C., word of mouth - it's almost grassroots that got us where we are, but I can't tell. Yes, there are people who yell for certain songs because of The O.C. I'm glad we did that; it's kind of cool. But we get flak for it sometimes. It's sad that a band like [...]
Sometimes it's hard to write about a band you absolutely adore. TV On The Radio have always been one of my favorites. Their music is so intense and absorbing, it's like you drown into it and forget about everything that surrounds you. I'm at work right now, listening to "Dreams". I don't know what I'm doing here and I couldn't care less. I do know that this music strangely cheers me up. It's like every song makes perfect sense, even if I don't always understand their [...]

There's a reason I haven't been able to write anything on here recently. Yesterday I came back from 3 days of camping, beer, bad food and something that goes well with all of the above: music. Belgium isn't known for a lot, but if there's one thing I'm proud to live here for, it must be music festivals. Werchter , Dour and Dranouter attract musiclovers all over the globe but there's one that outshines them all: Pukkelpop . Pukkelpop is internationally [...]

Okkervil River came out with a follow-up to their masterwork Black Sheep Boy. The Stage Names arrived in stores on tuesday and was recorded in Austin, Texas, with longtime Okkervil producer Brian Beattie and was mixed with the help of Spoon's drummer Jim Eno. You can stream the whole album on their MySpace. Artwork by frontman William Scheff mp3's: Okkervil River - Plus Ones [...]
Caribou is Dan Snaith, who formerly recorded under the moniker Manitoba. Known for altering his sound with each subsequent release, he incorporates electronic psychedelia, krautrock rhythms, and breakbeat drums in swirling, lush panoramas . Their new album Andorra is going to be released on Merge in the US on August 21st and through City Slang in the rest of the world on August 20th. It has more of a full band feel than some of Caribou's earlier studio efforts and the sound is more expansive and [...]

The first time i heard of Pinback was on one of The O.C. mixes. "Fortress" had beautifully plucked guitar notes and the vocals were fascinating. I felt compelled to check out more of their music, so I got myself Summer In Abbadon , liked it so much and ended up collecting all their other cd's. I've been in love with Pinback ever since. Their music never dissapointed me, the sound is original and the songs are dreamy, thoughtful and enthralling. Same goes for their upcoming album Autumn of the Seraphs . [...]

In an unprecedented move, Stars and their record label Arts&Crafts decided to digitally release (intentionally leak) their new album In Our Bedroom After The War four days after completion. Quoted from the Arts&Crafts website: We believe that the line between the media and the public is now completely grey. What's the difference between a writer for a big glossy music magazine and a student writing about their favorite band on their blog? What differentiates a commercial radio station from someone adding [...]

Sea Wolf is a side project of Irving's bassist Alex Church and is expected to release their debut full-length album Leaves In The River on September 25 via Dangerbird Records. You won't find a lot on the internet about their previous released EP Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low but both these albums are incredible and deserve much more attention. His voice may remind you of Elliott Smith or Conor Oberst, the melodies are sweet and somewhat mellow, the lyrics are thoughtful [...]

You might have heard of songs like Trouble Sleeping if you're a fan of the OC, Veronica Mars or One Three Hill music. If you don't watch these shows on a regular basis or you weren't lucky enough to discover this underrated band, chances are you probably never heard of The Perishers . The Perishers are a four-piece band from Umeå, Sweden and have been compared to other bands like Keane, Travis and Coldplay (some compare them to Radiohead, but it wouldn't surprise me if [...]

Je t'aime... moi non plus is the title of a French song written and sung by Serge Gainsbourg and his lover Brigitte Bardot. Cat Power and Karen Elson cover and translate this beautiful classic into English. Be advised; the explicit eroticism of the song was declared offensive at the time of its release.. which personally, didn't bother me at all. mp3's: Serge Gainsbourg Ft. Brigitte Bardot - Je T'aime (Moi Non Plus) [...]

Canadian singer-songwriters and identical twins " Tegan and Sara " are coming out with a new album. "The Con" leaked a couple of days ago but is due for release by the end of July. I just picked this up from Filter : Produced by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla, guest players include Jason McGerr from DCFC on drums, and Matt Sharp from The Rentals/Weezer and Hunter Burgan from AFI on bass (Sharp on Sara's songs, Burgan on Tegan's.) Written while the twin sisters were apart, resting after touring [...]

Ever wondered what kind of music they play in strange little countries like Belgium? Cause let's face it, besides waffles, chocolate and beer, who cares what happens here. Well, this might sound surprising, but Belgium has a rich musical culture. Aside from hosting major festivals like Rock Werchter and Pukkelpop , it's also home for many bands like dEUS, Hooverphonic and K's Choice. Even tho some of these bands get international recognition, most of them are widely underrated and unheard-of. Allow me to introduce you to some quality Belgian music. [...]
