It's a very low key, live cover, and not as amazing as it may first sound, but it's something I figured I'd still share with everyone. The mp3 is ripped from the live video below. Skip to the 4:26 mark for the start of the song. Manchester Orchestra - Time to Pretend (live cover) [ mp3 ]

This is a spur of the moment post, but I really like his take on the song "Static Waves". I'm going to listen to his EP tomorrow and let you know what I think, but what I've heard so far is great. He's got a unique voice and seems like someone I'd listen to over and over. We'll see. Check out his covers for the time being and I'll get back to you about his EP soon. I don't know what it is about this short CGI animated film, but I enjoyed it immensely. Let me know what you think. Big Buck Bunny from Blender Foundation on Vimeo .

(500) Days of Summer Perch Score: 9.459/10 I both loved and hated this movie, which was what I expected. I loved it because it was damn good, from the acting, to the story, to the themes. And the themes and situations found in the movie so perfectly represented things in my past that I found myself hating how much I related to them. The music was great, and you can't beat the scene where they had his expectations of the night side by side with reality and I couldn't help but laugh because that's [...]

My favorite couple in the world, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, are back with a new album following their Once success, entitled Strict Joy . I don't know a lot of details, but it'll be released on October 27th and you can bet it'll be somewhere in my top 20. I did put the Once soundtrack at #1 on my top 50 list after all. Listen to the mp3 below and let me know what you think. 'STRICT JOY' TRACK LISTING 1. Low Rising 2. Feeling the Pull [...]
I randomly came across this video, but a fan (Gabe Askew) apparantly made this video for Grizzly Bear's song "Two Weeks" and I personally think it's much, much better than the official video . Two Weeks - Grizzly Bear from Gabe Askew on Vimeo .

Avatar is the movie James Cameron has basically been making from the ground up since his last movie, which was Titanic. So, needless to say, nerds everywhere are flipping out today at the release of the trailer for Avatar. I've been following the movie's secrecy since this year's Comic-Con, and from write ups that people in the inside at the convention that saw a few clips of the movie, it's not only some of the most photo-realistic CGI ever done in a movie, the use of the new 3D technology that's invading movie theatres is finally something movie-goers will [...]

So, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) has teamed up with the guys in the band Collections of Colonies of Bees to form a new band called Volcano Choir. It's a project they began almost three years ago and a release date for the collaborative album has been set. September 22nd is that date and it'll be released by Jagjaguwar. I didn't know who Collections were until 10 minutes ago, but just from listening to their myspace, I can tell I'd love them. Think Minus the Bear meets Mogwai. All instrumental and very technical. Just like I like my post [...]
I'm curious to see how Johnny Depp, Colin Ferrell, and Jude Law get worked into the story to replace Ledger towards the second half of the movie, but from early reviews, the movie works and is dang good. I'm excited to see it for sure and I'm glad to see it finally get an official trailer.
Frankel, aka Michael Orendy, is releasing a new album on September 1st entitled Anonymity is the New Fame and from what I've read so far, it's looking to be one of the year's best releases. Once I get my hands on the album, I'll do a more thorough review, but for now, I wanted to share the little bit of info I have on the album and let you guys hear his new single and Nick Drake cover yourselves. -Frankel's cover of Nick Drake's "Know" over at You Ain't [...]
I just watched Coldplay's latest music video for "Strawberry Swing" and I can't imagine how long that video took to create. I still have a soft spot for Oren Lavie's video for "Her Morning Elegance", but I'll let you guys battle it out in the comments as to who thinks which is better. I really enjoy this guy's response video to Oren's video which is a stab at stop motion to Oren's song using his kids. It's great. Michelle, my beautiful girlfriend, finally moved on to bigger and better things today, leaving for Annapolis, Maryland pursuing that next step in her career that I stood behind 100%. It's an understatement saying it was hard to let her go, since she'd been my best friend for the last nine months, but we both had a strange understanding from the first day I met her that she was only here for so long with her internship, and no matter what happened between us, once today arrived, she was gone. That timeline ended up making the little bumps in the road [...]

Moon Perch Score: 9.466/10 It's hard to talk about this movie without immediately giving away what it is about. The trailer gives nothing away, and I went into the movie knowing only that Sam Rockwell was the sole crew member of a mining base on the moon, and that towards the end of his three year stay on the moon, he starts to go a little crazy and begins seeing things. That's honestly just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this fantastic movie, and while I still won't give away [...]
Quick update for you Why? fans out there. Their new song "The Blackest Purse" from their upcoming album Eskimo Snow premiered over at Pitchfork on Tuesday and a friend tipped me off and sent me the link. "[The songs] feel like song-songs with- I don't want to say a typical verse-chorus structure, but they're song-songs," said Yoni Wolf of the new album. I loved the unique hip hop take on indie rock from their previous albums, but I don't think the fact that this new one seems to have gone in a completely different direction is a bad [...]
I'll come right out of the gate and admit I had no idea Dodos' new album was even finished being recorded. An email yesterday alerted me that not only was their new album all done, but it had leaked onto the interwebs. In response, Dodos set up a website to counteract the leak and let everyone know that they don't mind. The new album is at that website for you to fully stream to your heart's desire, there's a message from the band, and they even moved the digital street date up from September to July 28th. I personally think [...]

Most of you have seen the teaser trailers for Neill Blomkamp's movie District 9 , but this week they finally unveiled a full-fledged trailer that tells a lot more about the plot and the way the movie will look. I absolutely can't wait to see this in August, as it seems to successfully avoid the War of the Wars look that has been taking over alien movies as of late. It was produced by Peter Jackson, and rumor has it that this movie was Jackson's test to see if Blomkamp was fit to direct the Halo movie he will [...]

Bowerbirds have always been a band I kept around for occasions exactly like today. Lazy, summer days when I'm just relaxing around the house doing nothing. It's perfect music for times when you just want something to accompany you as you read your next favorite book, lounge around the pool, or drift off to sleep. Since I'm in one of those moods today, and received an email today full of new stuff from the band, I figured this was as good a time as any to share it with you. Hopefully they gain a few new fans from this post [...]
