I just came across this artist earlier today while randomly going through iTunes. Sara Bareilles, who's recently released her first album, entitled Little Voice . I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but Love Song and Fairytale are two songs that really stand out, although there's a couple of others that really sound good on that album. I always try to compare artists to one another. Interestingly, I can think of a couple of female artists that sort of fit her style, but the artist [...]
I first heard about this guy a while ago, with his song Vermont Avenue through another music blog. Lionheart is out of L.A., and has released his first album, Catch the Brass Ring , which would seem to be the start of a fantastic acoustic/folk career. Previously the front man of a band called Telecast, he's since gone solo, where he released his own self titled EP, earlier in 2007. Earlier this week, Catch the Brass Ring was released. This guy's got an interesting sound, something between Amos Lee and Rufus Wainwright. There's some fantastic [...]
Remember how I said I like acoustic guitar / folk / rock ? Well, over the past couple years, I've come to like two artists in paticular. They're Ray LaMontagne and Iron & Wine (aka Sam Beam). Both are known for their fantastic acoustic guitar work, and both, to quote the movie Hot Fuzz, have a great big bushy beard! All humor aside, these two musicians have quite a bit in common. Their voices are fairly similar, a sort of high, off-rasp that is really complimented by their fantastic guitar work. [...]

It was two years ago last week that Hurricane Katrina hit Lousiana, causing some of the worst damages that the US has ever seen from a hurricane, at least in recent memory. Almost 2,000 people died as a result of the storm, and thousands more had to relocate. And two years on, the area still hasn't recovered. New Orleans still has massive problems with healthcare, crime and housing. The Saints Are Coming (Live at New Orleans) - U2 / Green [...]
This week's Cover and Original is of one song that I like quite a bit, and by two bands that I like (One more than the other, but they're both fantastic bands) The song is Time , originally by Pink Floyd, off the brilliant Dark Side of the Moon . Covering the song this week is Carbon Leaf, with their own live version. While I'm a huge fan of Carbon Leaf's, this cover's faithful, but doesn't quite capture the sound and feel of the original one. It's a faithful version though, and one that's quite well done. [...]
This is interesting - Researchers at the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University have come up with a study that shows exactly how rock stars face their mortality by showing that they're more likely to die than any other average joe. Duh. But the fact that it's quantifiable is interesting. They go through and look at people's backgrounds and causes of death, as well as their track record and was focused on over a thousand artists between the United States and Europe. Average age of death? 42 for those from North America and 35 for European Artists. [...]
Lots of videos this week. Bruce Springsteen has also released the video for his latest single, Radio Nowhere: Radio Nowhere - Bruce Springsteen Hype - Buy - Look
This just hit the Youtube airwaves last night - a new Foo Fighters video for their latest single, The Pretender . Its' s a fantastic one, really good camera work and angles, and it's really in step with the song: The Pretender - Foo Fighters Hype - Buy [...]
I went to a military college as a civilian, and now work at the school's graduate school, in the military history department. I'm liking the fact that I have a) just graduated and now have a regular job and b) get to work in the field that I majored in. It's pretty cool. Yesterday, we started our latest set of classes, and to commemorate this, a couple of songs about military history. The War Was [...]
iTunes hasn't uploaded their songs for this week, but to tide you over, here's a new Dave Matthew's Video, Eh Hee. If you've listened to Live at Radio City, you'll have heard this one. It's pretty cool, although very weird. Eh Hee Video - Dave Matthews EDIT: [...]
I just got a press release for KT Tunstall's upcoming album, Drastic Fantastic, and it had a link to the new video for the lead single, Hold On. A quick look at YouTube showed that there's already a copy up: This upcoming album is one that I really can't wait to hear. Eye to the Telescope was a fantastic first album from a really exceptional artist, and from [...]
Over the past month, I've been collecting, listening and buying songs as they catch my interest, and here are my picks for the best of August: Radio Nowhere - Bruce Springsteen The boss is back with the first single in a couple of years now, and this one's pretty damn good. Solid guitar work and drive behind this one, with a solid track once again. Don't Stop Now - Crowded House Even A Child - [...]

This is cool - LFL and BMG are releasing a 30th anniversary soundtrack edition for Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Cover art looks amazing, and I'm tempted to pick it up, even though I already have the special edition collection. It's going to be released this November, and will contain 8 discs of music. You can pre-order the collection here [...]
