In a brief filed in federal court yesterday, Universal Music Group (UMG) states that, when it comes to the millions of promotional CDs ("promo CDs") that it has sent out to music reviewers, radio stations, DJs, and other music industry insiders, throwing them away is "an unauthorized distribution" that violates copyright law. Jodie Borle of Manitoba Music has a great post on the rise of pre-sales and pre-pre-sales for events that often leave fans going for tickets the day they "go on sale" shit out of luck. There's really nothing "pre" about it. Someone said "let's have people be able to purchase them today." Yeah. That's called on sale. Not presale. I wonder why they even bother telling people that tickets go on sale Saturday. Those poor schmucks that wait till Saturday will be sitting up in the rafters.

OK - I agree this number is more than some bands will ever sell let alone in one week - but if the idea of developing a plan with such an "ambitious" goal is too much for you to consider you may not be cut out for where things are going in this industry.
