Yikes, I love jj's "Ecstasy" and "We Can't Stop" and their albums. But this new single "YOU DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD HURT ME IF YOU SAID THAT YOU WERE IN LOVE WITH ME" is a little eh... nothing too is too crazy about it other than the enormously long song title. It's quiet, minimal and pretty bare. Interesting direction from their previous moody rnb outtakes. jj - YOU DONT KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD HURT ME IF YOU SAID THAT YOU WERE IN LOVE WITH ME [...]

True enough, I have a part of me that loves and loathes K-POP. Artists such as BoA, Girls Generation, miss A, 2NE1, BIGBANG and GD & TOP are really the only artists I listen to. South Korean pop culture is so overloaded with these type of artists that I have only been familiar with a few of their "indie" artists. They're actually quite rare for me to find. But Kim Jiyeon is one of those rare gems. Using recordings of natural environments, she uses those recordings to enhance her lulling compositions. Usually the recordings are on the electronic and downtempo [...]

Yeah, I wasn't really feeling most of the singles on Lady Gaga's new album Born This Way. Not that I dislike Madonna. But Madonna already exists and did was she did over two decades ago. But this remix Wild Beasts did for Gaga's track "You And I" wasn't so bad. I saw it popping all over the internet this morning and give it a quick listen. It doesn't really pop or break new ground, but at least it's "new" compared to what all the other remixes sound like for Gaga's new tracks. Give it a whirl and stream below via [...]

Crazy, I actually missed out on the buzz train for this one. But a good friend forwarded me their stuff tonight. Greek duo Keep Shelly In Athens released a 123 In Love With Dusk EP on Gorilla vs. Bear imprint Forest Family Records. One of the tracks "Running Out Of You" is a mix of the popular hazy stuff that's been going on right now but one ups all of them by eventually hitting a high with solar electronics and even a little dash of an eighties electro east coast vibe near the [...]

Everyone's been hollaring ever since The Weeknd's new mixtape Thursday was released, well on Thursday. I haven't had the time to check out since it was released. But I guess today's rainy ass Sunday was the perfect time to check it out. And perfect indeed. The nine tracks on Thursday are a brooding mix of hip-hop and rnb beats. Shivering, cold, moody, salivating and rainy. Just listening to opening track "Lonely Star" is perfect for this dark Sunday night. Title track "Thursday" is one hell of a soulful song. And I guess the big track off this mixtape [...]

Heard this over on Listen Before You Buy . Jhameel presents the case of a highly talented person opting to use his skills and transfer it into the artistic world. According to his biography, he speaks Arabic, Spanish, Korean, and Russian and was heading towards the United States Army. I would kill to have those kind of linguistic skills. But instead, the Minnesotan moves to San Francisco to give birth to some funky music. In his track "Shut-Up" Jhameel combines a sampling of Lipps Inc.'s "Funky Town" and makes it explode with is fierce James [...]

Holy crap, Wallpaper. goes nutso with his take on Adele's track "Rumor Has It." But I guess when you've put out a single called "#STUPiDFACCED" and is being featured on the new season of Jersey Shore you've got to increase the ante. The song is pounding and jarring like his new single "#STUPiDFACCED" the remix "#WHiTEGiRLWASTED" and his remix/mash-up of Jay-Z's "D.O.A./ 9 Problems." The lyrics have also been enhanced with a line such as "He/ is half my size/ So if he's taller than me, hey, I don't mind." On top of that Detroit hip-hop artist Danny Brown lends [...]
I can not wait to see this band at CMJ. I had missed the last time they came to New York. A while back they had released another new song from their upcoming debut album. Their song "Cuckoo" was another perfect piece of dream pop. And now they've released an official music video for the track and it goes along perfectly. Just a simple simple video of the members in a dark zone where dreams are made of. Their album Creatures of an Hour is going to be released October 11th, 2011 via Sub Pop Records. [...]
And once again, another band makes it in time for the summer. Announcing their debut full-length after signing to Sub Pop Records, the United Kingdom's Still Corners will be release Creatures of an Hour on October 11th, 2011. Leading the album is their new single "Cuckoo." Following the footsteps of "Endless Summer" the song is drowned in a sea of airy dream organs and reverb. The atmosphere created by the band is chilling. If the rest of the album follows suit, it will most likely be one of my favorite albums of 2011. [...]

Duos duos duos everywhere. Seems like it makes much easier for bands or couples to work on writing songs without too many differences occurring between members. Yesterday The Fader post a new track by British duo Elephant. The song "Actors" is a simple song with an acoustic guitar strumming away, percussion playing a simple beat and Amelia Rivas' vocals. That's all. You don't need anymore when it comes to writing simple pop songs. Being a pop connoisseur, I hope to hear more from these guys in the future. Elephant - Actors [...]

This is one of the most subdued tracks I've ever heard from San Francisco's Blackbird Blackbird. The intro to his new Yw EP is much more quiet than the raucous of swirling pop I'm used to hearing. Nevertheless the track is soothing. The song, less than three minutes also features his girlfriend Palom. Blackbird Blackbird is seriously one of the most prolific artists I've encountered within the last two years. And every track I've heard has been quality. This track is no different. Blackbird Blackbird - Lone [...]

This new Twin Sister album In Heaven is really taking me for some turns here. First we were given "Bad Street" which walked on the funkier side of town. Now with a stream of another track called "Gene Ciampi" we're once again given another direction. There's quite a bit of twang in a western sense in this track. And I honestly don't know if Andrea Estella's vocals carries the song too well. But it's an interesting departure from their more dreamy weaving songs. It'll be interesting to hear where else the new album is going to take us. [...]

The Unicorns' Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? was one of my favorite albums of the decade. The quirky pop songs melded with dark lyrics sung by Nick Thorburn held a special place in my indie rock growth. After the band disbanded, Nick's new band Islands had a great debut but the band just never really lived up to what I felt about The Unicorns. Many moons later Nick is now in a band with members of Man Man and Modest Mouse. The new group named Mister Heavenly still resonate a lot of Nick's quirky songwriting [...]

Finally! It's been ages since I've heard a new song or a remix from French House extraordinaire. Well, this new remix of The Swiss' "Double or Nothing" brings back some of that action that I've been missing out on. Disco beats, thumping bass, four-on-the-floor beats, funky guitar strokes, keys and synths that enhance the original's vintage dance sounds. The official release for the Double Or Nothing single will be released late September 2011 via Modular People. The Swiss - Double Or Nothing (Louis La Roche Remix) [...]

When a beautiful voice sings about video games where can you go wrong. Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey's "Video Games" is a sorrowful and powerful song. You can almost call it vintage in a way resembling a vocalist like Nancy Sinatra. She's young and she's from New York and I am hoping to hear more from this sultry songstress. Listen to "Video Games" and you'll want to lay in bed all day and cuddle with your significant, or like me cuddle with your significant and your pillow. Lana Del Rey - Video Games [...]

Brooklyn's Little Star Dweller did again with another subtle yet break beating remix of Pictureplane's "Post Physical." Just like his remix for Washed Out's " Echoes " Little Star Dweller uses the song's original elements and ramps it up with his own desire for electronic beats. So even though Pictureplane's song "Post Physical" already had an aura of electro space, Little Star Dweller's pushes it into warp making the song even more exciting. If you haven't already downloaded Little Star Dweller's new single " Catch A Killer " you really should. It's definitely one of the hottest dance tracks to [...]

Okay, I actually think that this "remix" of sorts is "okay." Sweden's duo Korallreven took a chance of reinventing Britney Spears' single "Till The World Ends." Well, why blog about it? I actually LOVE the original version. Hearing the song at the end of my exercise mix and or at a club completely energizes it. And now seeing a ton of "hip" blogs and or online publications post Korallreven's version kind of oogles my mind. Is it "cool" now that a semi-electronic group has put their touches on the track. But I'm not saying [...]

I heard about Pure Bathing Culture over I Guess I'm Floating . The Portland troop makes some soothing lush tracks that would lull you into a harmonious slumber during a Portland winter. A perfect example of this would be in their song "Lucky One." I Guess I'm Floating also mentions that the duo are members of Vetiver. In some ways this makes sense. But I'm excited for some new songs from this new duo. All of the tracks on their BandCamp are quite sweet. Pure Bathing Culture - Lucky One [...]
