With this post we come to the end of the weekend as well as the end of the studio albums made by Weezer to date. First after The Green Album came a little ditty called Maladroit ( iTunes ) which was only the second of their five discs not to feature the band on the cover artwork. This, though, created a pattern so far which has the band appearing on every other album cover. Following this trend would lead me to believe that the new studio album due early next year will feature some form of art on [...]
In case you were not aware Rivers Cuomo has an album entitled "Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo" which drops exactly one month from today on December 18. Expect some greatness from this upcoming album as Rivers appears to be one of the most prolific writers of this modern music era. There are allegations that Rivers writes well over one hundred songs for each Weezer album and then only chooses what he thinks are the best ten to fourteen tracks for the final pressings. In other news Weezer will have their sixth studio album out in the [...]
Weezer's second full length album, Pinkerton ( iTunes ), was a departure from their original guitar driven surfer/loner/nerd anthem style of rock. As such, when it was first released in 1996, it was panned by critics and many fans alike who were eagerly anticipating a second edition of The Blue Album. To be frank here folks it seems like bands cannot seem to please anyone with a sophomore effort. In the case of Weezer they went in a new direction for their second album and fans and critics hated it. But look at The Strokes, who essentially released [...]
Did you know that virtually no one posts in music blogs over the weekends? It's strange but true and I'm here to try to reverse that trend. A trend which probably started due to the fact that almost all bloggers blog from work, instead of working, and when they're at home they stop doing all of those avoid-work-at-all-costs activities. Or, if you're a realist, it might be due to the fact that people have lives, no one cares to read weekend blog posts, or any other of a plethora of legitimate excuses, none of which my current [...]

It was recently brought to my attention that this little slice of the blogosphere [heaven] has been nominated for the award "Best Music Blog" given out by Hey! Nielsen and Billboard.com. While I think it's totally ridiculous to have made the list of 103 finalists, alongside many of my friends and lovers, I would like to say thanks to whomever nominated this blog or whatever process of this screwed up universe allowed me to be entered into the competition. Oh, and if you so desire you can vote for The World Forgot here . [...]
Where have you gone sweet Britney of old. What happened between Whoops I Did It Again and this present day state of shaved heads, drug accusations, and all the other shenanigans? Honestly, what happened? And fans, please note, I'm not attacking Britney here, I'm just asking some questions that we would all like an honest answer to. So before you go Crystal O Jones on me take a moment and really think about how America took a mousketeer and turned her into an unfit mother. And before I forget, let me explain the reference I made above to [...]
As long as I have blog left in me I will continue to represent Zach Williams as one of the best undiscovered artists currently on the planet. He continues to play amazing live shows where he not only entertains the crowd, he goes so far as to woo them. Yes woo them. When Zach finishes a set and walks off stage the audience cannot help but consider themselves hopelessly in love with this sound. With this voice, this style, this humble man from New York City. I encourage you, I implore you, to please check out Zach's music. [...]
Lightspeed Champion is Dev Hynes. A man who used to be the thrash, punk, screamo set in a band called Test Icicles. I never really liked the old sound Dev was associated with so I was skeptical about this new project. And I'm sure I would have remained a skeptic had it not been for the blog that he maintains. His posts are often barely lucid and the stream of consciousness style that he's adopted seems to mesh well with the inner monologue that narrates my life. Not to mention that he talks of having a Libertines guitar [...]
Not quite the best picture of Ms. Van der Woodsen. And honestly not quite the best name either. The show made a point, as the books do, to make all the characters come from money with family names that sound like they would have inherited money. And although the show has a lot to do with teenage romance and love triangles, the issues of money, drug abuse, trust funds, social class stratification, and sex run rampant throughout the mix. And speaking of mixes, this is the only the second or third time I've had anything good [...]
I'm not sure why but I thought this song was perfect for today. It's not rare, unheard, or especially brilliant but it is a great track from a band whose only strike is that Rolling Stone seems to have an awkward love love relationship with the band. Other than that there's never been anything about this NYC quintet [yes I know the picture only has four of them] that I've found I disliked. I like their sound, their attitude, their swagger. I like it all. And because I do so should you. This track appears as [...]
Today was a gorgeous fall day, most of it I got to spend outside in a big open field filled with orange and yellow leaves, gusty wind, and children playing merrily oblivious to the chill in the air. I had a really good day. And on this day, exactly eighteen months after my father unexpectedly passed away, as I found myself enjoying the crispness of autumn, and the way sunlight casually filters through clouds to dapple the ground with moments of warmth, this old song by the Smashing Pumpkins found its way into my mouth and I couldn't stop singing [...]
On this dreary Monday morning I bring to you the High Priestess of Soul, Nina Simone. She was an amazing artist as well as an amazing human being and her music will stand the test of time. Often dabbling in a style of Jazz music Nina herself always referred to her sound as simply Black Classical. In reality it is as innovative as it sounds familiar. At one moment sounding fresh and new while at the same time calling up memories of eras of music long past. Simply put her sound is gorgeous and there is a quality to her [...]
So I've seen this commercial a lot lately and everytime I think that it sounds like such an amazing song. So I looked it up and found a copy of it, and it is a good song. So here you have it. The Dentyne Ice commercial featuring this band I had never heard of:Ben's Brother. I checked out their myspace and their other songs were decent, but not [...]
If you haven't checked out the Zune you need to look again. The new Zune, which many are calling the Zune 2, will hit shelves and websites in just about two weeks and it's better than ever. It has a killer screen for video and this little model comes with an 80 GB hard drive. To be honest I really do love iPods because of their simplicity, but their bloody, bloated, system resource devouring, price monopolizing, drm whoring iTunes has got to go. Granted Zune Marketplace might not be the saviour of digital downloads, but the [...]
I did this style of mix a couple of times in the past but now they'll hopefully become a regular part of the lineup here on The World Forgot. So welcome to the first of many Best of the Month compilations. Basically I do a lot of random reading, listening, searching, finding, digesting, etc. of all the music that I can possibly get my hands on. And let's be honest, I probably have a bit more free time than you do. Judging from the fact that I'm writing this extensive explanation and you're simply skimming through it looking for the [...]
Let me take a minute and introduce you to a new addition to The World Forgot. His name is Josh and he will be contributing occasionally by posting odds and ends. If you look below this post you'll see his review of the OK Go concert which he attended this past weekend. I thoroughly encourage you to check it out. He's a good kid and he's pretty much awesome. Now, on with the show. This week we were put back into the melodrama that is the Upper East Side's prep [...]

(Damien, in the crowd, singing an ELO cover at Butler) I saw OK GO play the other night at Butler and it was completely worth it. Using a friends student discount, the night only cost 9.00. They had a screen set up behind them which they utilized amazingly. Every song either had a guy in the wallpaper costume dancing behind them, things blowing up in reverse (these two were not the music videos. It was almost like they took a scene of a music video and instead played that one [...]
Alright, so I have about three minutes to post this music before I burn the house down with whatever has just begun to smoke in the oven. It's probably apple pies. Some quick thoughts. The new EP by The Fray isn't really new at all. It's just a new release of an EP they put together back in 1993 or so. Don't be fooled by clever marketing. Also, Oreos are amazing but the resealable package does nothing for me. It's not even close to an airtight seal and, thusly, my Oreos get stale. [...]
Currently in the running for my favorite YouTube video of all time.
I like this band a lot. I think they have a completely unique style of crafting music that is at once precocious and a true aural delight. And I find it odd that these qualities exist in a band created by Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade. You see, I view Wolf Parade as basic Modest Mouse rip off artists without much real interest to their music, lyrics, or style and yet from this band musical goodies flourish. On this latest effort the music is intriguing and diverse. There seem to be layers upon layers that can only truly [...]
