SPARC

SPARC I've been praising the Sparc's fluorescent Euro-pop for months now , and here's evidence of why that is. His latest gem, Be Yourself, is another wonderful slice of pianos & electronics filter glee, which is seemingly becoming his signature sound. That sounds vaguely like ZZZ, but it's more focused on the steady breakdowns than obtuse piano obsessions. Check it out below along with what I suppose is now vintage Sparc. PERFECT SOUND FOREVER: M83

PERFECT SOUND FOREVER: M83 I do this section for the perfect songs. Those songs that I can always come back to, no matter how much times has passed, because, as I just said, they are perfect. And in music, perfection is permanent. I mean, like if I bought a Pink Lady apple, and ate it, and it was perfect, it would be perfect at that time only. If I took a bite and was like wow, that's perfect, and came back to it 8 hours later, it wouldn't be perfect. But music can be perfect. Once it is released into the public consciousness it [...]

BUILD

BUILD As a rule, I dislike a lot of remixes done for the Teenagers . It's equal parts because the originals are un-improvable upon and also because the one exception to that rule (the SLUTTT mix of Fuck Nicole) has never been repeated. So skepticism reigns supreme when producers send me something labelled 'new Teenagers remix'. This however, is all kinds of good. Kind of like if the Teenagers listened exclusively to ABC 12 inches. So jump onto it. And onto Build . The kid is blossoming before our eyes with this and [...]

COCONUT RECORDS

COCONUT RECORDS I feel as though is both the perfect send-off for the Australian summer and a beautiful beginning for the northern hemisphere's warmer months. Coconut Records - The Summer [ YS ] COCONUT RECORDS

APPALOOSA

You all know that I'm crazy for Appaloosa, so it goes without saying that I'd go gaga for anything new from them. That happened this morning when local champion James Kane sent through his take on Appaloosa's heart-conquering The Day. It's a very solid mix from JK, he doesn't depart too much from the source, instead polishing each original part into something tighter and ready for

RÖYKSOPP

With every trickle of the new Röyksopp disc edging out into the blogosphere, I'm sent back on an iTunes hunt for old gems from the duo. Like this cut from a Tellé sampler. Dig.Röyksopp - 64-Position (Live) [YS]RÖYKSOPP

DAFT PUNK

What's better than a dub? A digital dub. Damn straight. Other good dubs include Holy Ghostian Day School dubs, Windsurf-tastic Violet dubs, oh and Disco dubs. Also by Holy Ghost.Daft Punk - Digital Love (Digital Dub) [YS]MYSPACE

HOCKEY

Spooky. I'd been thinking about doing a spiel on US indie scruffs Hockey for a few weeks now, and then I open my inbox to find their new video waiting for me. Must be fate. Scope the video over here and check out the MP3 for Too Fake below. With sidewalk-crawling dirty funk tunes like this, expect big things from Hockey in 2009.Hockey - Too Fake [YS]MYSPACE

EMIL AND FRIENDS

EMIL AND FRIENDS Emil & Friends have been blowing my mind for like ever, and now they bring out another reason to swoon all over them. I really really like this. Wonderful and whimsical, as you'd expect. Passion Pit better watch their backs. LINKS UPDATED Passion Pit - Sleepyhead (Emil & Friends Reworking) [ YS ] MYSPACE

FRED FALKE

This one kind of got a bum deal, don't you think? Like, the awesomeness of Falke's Golden Cage remix kind of overshadowed this one. But it's pretty huge. And it makes VHS Or Beta sound better than they have since Le Funk.VHS Or Beta - Burn It All Down (Fred Falke Remix)MYSPACE

FRANZ FERDINAND

The Franz kids (Domino yo) always throw some weight into their pick of remixers, in the past they've had heavy hitters like Erol Alkan, Justice, Mickey Moonlight, Ewan Pearson and even Daft Punk. The new package for No You Girls is no different with the band getting retouched by none other than Vince Clarke of Yazoo, Erasure and DM fame. That's pretty cool. Although who knows how it will turn out

WHOMADEWHO

Speaking of old favourites returning in 2009, I've been quite enjoying the new WhoMadeWho disc. It's more of their signature idiosyncratic Euro-funk, indie-meets-electronics sound, and that can only ever be a good thing.WhoMadeWho - The Plot (The Mole Remix) [YS]MYSPACE

THE RAKES

I feel like the Rakes got unfortunately lumped in with the also-rans of the British 'band' explosion that popped in 2005. You know, Bloc Party, Maximo Park and such. And people wanted them to be something they weren't. So their precision-perfect, tight and smart brand of Brit-rock went under-appreciated. 1989 is the band's return, and they're not trting to play anyone's trend-games, just doing

KATE BUSH

There's no end in sight to the server issues, so I don't know, keep holding on. I'll try and keep things going with Mediafire links...so fun. I cannot stop listening to this classic. Share the love.Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill [YS]

THE RAC

This would've debuted on the blog this morning were it not for the intolerable server dramas I'm having at the moment, but here it is better late than never ever at all.So here it is, a terrifically bouncy bleep-hop remix from the RAC kids for Robyn's well loved Cobrastyle. It's another winner from Andre and the crew (who're apparently busy mixing up big ones for Yuksek, Mates of State and
