We're also not sure how this took so long to happen, but at least it happened - someone finally got DOOM to lay down some of his classically poetic, effervescent verses over one of Clams Casino's impressionistic, otherworldly beats. The result: "Bookfiend," the most interesting rap track you've heard in a while, which sounds, what with Clams ' spaced-out instrumentals and DOOM's rambling meditations, like a very postmodern future. Thanks to DOOM also for the best Netflix shoutout in recent memory. We're not sure if this is a sign of bigger collaborations [...]
Boards of Canada have employed one of the trippiest and interesting promotional campaigns we've ever experienced for an album. Secret codes and anonymous clips and conspiracy theories have all been filling the internet the past couple weeks and it seems like it's all making a little sense. According to several smart people , the image above is the album cover to Boards of Canada's long awaited new album, Tomorrow's Harvest . It'll be out June 10. For the first time in three years, the Norwegian electropop artist Annie has released a new song. "Tube Stops and Lonely Hearts" is described as an "emotional tribute to the rave culture in the early ninties" on her website , and that just about fits the feeling of the thing. Her record label, Totally Records, is set to release the beast of a single on May 1. She's also just collaborated with another Norwegian by the name of Ralph Myerz . Annie wrote "Take a Look at the World," but it [...]
He took out one of the best albums of last year, he's launching a rap career , he's performing with Odd Future and he's making music for Cartoon Network's Adventure Time ... Flying Lotus seems like a busy dude, but he's finding time to perform two dates at New York's Terminal 5 next week. We admire your work ethic, man. FlyLo will be hitting T5 on May 5 (holler) and 6, and we're giving away a pair of tickets to [...]
capsule review by ADAM OFFTIZER Cayucas’ Bigfoot is a short and sweet instant charmer. The album’s eight songs each hover around the 3 and a half-minute mark, never overstaying their welcome. The sound is relentlessly warm and tropical, with rickety high-pitched keys, light and breezy percussion, and calm, echoed vocals. Lead singer Zach Yudin’s stories blend together, as if he’s trying to soundtrack his own coming-of-age indie romance –on three separate tracks, Yudin recalls a “high school lover,” a “summer thing,” and an “east coast girl.” Bigfoot brings to mind [...]
Speedy Ortiz is the Western Massachusetts-based project of songwriter Sadie Dupuis , who has a thing for playful but heavy guitars and charmingly taunting, verbose vocals; both are on display in the band's new track "Hexxy," the b-side on a 73 they're are putting out for Inflated tomorrow. Dupuis sings about how she can't keep her houseplants alive (I feel you) over her band's tight, rhythmic drive before a quick, perfectly loud, catchy-as-hell chorus, then, as though she's smirking at you from afar, she reigns the whole thing in with a sweet "Who are you to call me [...]
Adult Swim's been really good with compilations recently - they're releasing a new one soon called Garage Swim , which you can probably guess is all garage rock, and teasing it with this awesome new track from Thee Oh Sees called "Devil Again." We've always preferred the band's epic, kraut-y jams, but this sub-three-minute banger is definitely fantastic - we love how Brigid Dawson's keyboard takes a charmingly kitchy, haunted-house lead over classic, distorted guitar riffs from John Dwyer. The comp also features new tracks from the Black Lips, Mikal Cronin , King [...]
It's finally here in full, Beyoncé and Andre 30002s cover of Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black." The song's been teased for a few weeks now and even though we've heard new tracks from Florence + the Machine , the xx , Lana Del Rey and Sia , the Great Gatsby soundtrack experience has felt incomplete without this one. The new "Back To Black" was premiered on Friday night on East Village Radio by the song's co-writer Mark Ronson and [...]

Based on what we've heard so far , Trouble Will Find Me is shaping up to be as solid as the rest of the National's excessively solid catalogue. Last night, they did what all the cool kids do and premiered some new music on Fallon. "Sea of Love" and "I Need My Girl" both seem like they'll be the kind of songs really worth playing over and over once we have them on record, but we're certainly not complaining about this first live taste. "Sea of Love": [...]
It's rare to see a new rapper who does his own production, recording, mixing and mastering, but that's exactly what Kons the Child does. He got a viscous flow and an ear for catchy samples, all of which come together seamlessly to create the aural bliss that is "Dream Yoga." It's a sunny, spring day track that seems to come from an oasis utterly detached from the normal stress of the day-to-day grind. After you've listened to Kons and fellow Richmonder Black Kreay lay down their carefree verses, you're going to want some of [...]

We've always found it hard not to get down with Crystal Castles. The Candian duo's brand of dark but catchy electronica has a truly unique sound to it, and somehow, they've created a video that provides the perfect visual compliment to all those strobing synths. Fireworks and masks and shit make this a good time, and make me wish I could go to club where all they played on Friday nights was Crystal Castles. Their theird album, III , came out last Novermber Read more articles like " Video: [...]
Saturday Night Live has invited two major stars for their big 38th season finale on May 18, recent Oscar winner and Argo director Ben Affleck and Kanye West. We know Kanye's been working on an album in Paris with everyone from Daft Punk to Chief Keef to Azealia Banks , so maybe we'll get a glimpse of a new single then? Rewatch Kanye's remarkable SNL performance of "Power": [...]
Hailing from the beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia, Left and Right play an irrepressibly energetic brand of pop punk. 93 , their EP released today , skews a bit more towards the pop rock side of things, but it has the escape-valve urgency punk occasionally seasoned by bits of narrative and flashes of noise rock. For a five song release, it goes a lot of places. Check out the 93 EP below: 93 by Left and Right Read more articles like " Check Out: Left & Right - [...]

I used to say, you may know Sia from the series finale of Six Feet Under , where her haunting "Breathe Me" was used to stunning and flawless effect (obviously, link contains major spoilers if you have not seen Six Feet Under and plan to), but that point has mostly been rendered moot now that the Australian chanteuse has lent her unmistakable vocals to two bonafide smash hits "Wild Ones" and "Titanium." Though anybody who has been near a house party with an iPod DJ at [...]

Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich , or as we like to call them, Atoms For Peace give Four Tet's lovely "Pyramid" a do over. "It's so fucking good," tweets Four Tet . We're inclined to agree. We fell in love with Australia's Stone Roses -revivalists Jagwar Ma (on paper, the producer Jono Ma and singer Gabriel Winterfield , but the producer Ewan Pearson and percussionist Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint help out too) right around the time they released "The Throw," with its super-catchy intro section and intriguingly experimental coda. That seemed to work as a good model for the band, so they're doing it again on new single "Man I Need," which could be an instant indie radio hit if it weren't for [...]
Jessie Ware's good at picking tracks to cover - she manages to put spotlights on her inspirations and forerunners and choose songs that perfectly match her style. She's just released her take on a song you probably don't remember but your parents might, Martika's Prince -cowritten hit from 1991, "Love.... Thy Will Be Done." We love the bridge section, when Ware battles it out with her backing singers over a deep groove. Check it out. Read more articles like " Jessie Ware - Love Thy Will [...]
Mood Rings are a moody Atlanta psych band who are gearing up to release their first record for Mexican Summer; here's its first single, "Pathos y Lagrimas." These guys are really good at giving their soaring, shoegazy psychedelic vibe a down-to-earth tinge too - note the driving bassline, that roots distorted, hazed-out guitars, vocals, and percussion effects. The end product is a perfect slow-jam for summer late-nights: put this one on when your bonfire's burned down to embers. Mood Rings ' new record VPI Harmony is out June 25. [...]
