I wish someone could tell me why those duet band are always naming the male artist first ... Am I too old-fashion ! Anyway, we're back in Australia for another great EP debut from Liesl Karlsson and Nick Everitt. The EP title is also the intro track which is just a majestic soft piano-driven blues that deserves to reach our ears. Artist : Nick & Liesl Label : Red Shed Records Where to buy : itunes
With a requiem-intro switching fast into a light-chords, drum-buried based symphony, Sanders Bohlke teased our appetite for his upcoming EP on this amazing dual song : The Weight Of Us . For my fellow Ray LaMontagne's forum members, no surprise at all : Sanders Bohlke is distilling with a surgical precision his melody and orchestration knowledges ; for you to choose between Trouble and Empty , guess he reached the delicate and beautiful balance ! Find below a too low 128kbps webrip version of Nowhere another masterpiece, please don't be eager, wait for the release [...]

Even if the tags cloud is headlining a huge Tom Waits , we had not post a single song about him ! Am I wrong ? Shame on us !

Yesterday, I was listening to a recent Dan Mangan's performance (Danapalooza! in Ottawa) on CBC Radio 2 Concert on Demand ejoying this talented songwriter when Dan played a cover of 'See the Sunshine Through the Haze' which captivate my full attention. A goggle search later, I was on the Urban Aesthetics website. Their eponymous first EP has been released this last October and hold a fresh and joyful collection of 5 songs. This first release is full of catchy tunes that could remind me the power of the Kinks or the infectuous pop of [...]
Tobacco Pat is the subject of this episode of "If You Haven't Heard" and once again, you need to hear - but I guess that is the point of the series. Well now that we are on subject, I was recently introduced to Tobacco Pat (and have previously mentioned him HERE ) and now I hope to introduce you to Tobacco Pat, if you haven't heard already. Tobacco Pat, or Logan Farmer, is a Floridian with a sound that speaks from the belly of the South, just maybe not the south [...]
Ante Scriptum : Instrumental tracks are open doors for the dreamers who want to take a step back and get swept away by some infinite readings, or contemplate various horizons. Come to think of it, I would draw the following comparison : an instrumental track is to a song what a book is to a movie. Even if the title of those tracks can give you some clues to walk the artist's steps : those pieces are wide-open spaces for freedom and dreams. So, from time to time, along with our discoveries, this new Without Words section [...]

I'm echoing Smansmith March post about Corbin Murdoch project : " A year in Song" . The Canadian songwriter gifted us with a beautifull sad april song "Oh, and Samantha". If you don't want to miss the upcoming track, time to subscribe to the project feed .
I've received on april 17th a mail from Jon Jackson about a new video available on vimeo. Days have rolled full of procrastination... and yesterday as I was cleaning my mailbox, Jon's message went back top of the list... For the best of your day, give you the chance to click the play button right now and you will enjoy the result of a four months effort. Beautiful ! Untitled from Green Apples - Jon Jackson on vimeo .

And here we are once again : After a couple of days of deep blue sky and some warmer temperature, snow falls have covered my mountainlands. And it will be a perfect cocooning days to loop the first self-titled and awaited collection from The Woodlands. And I wish I could lay back and relax nearby the source of a small torrent, fingers in the grass up there in my same mountains on the same prairies enjoying the sound of the Woodlands. And I wish I could witness the first bud of the rhododendron or feel the fresh autumn [...]
It's been a cold, rainy and lazy Sunday here in Chicago. The better part of the day I've been sitting here in my room searching for new music in the blogosphere, lurking on last.fm and listening to some pretty mellow and sad bastard tunes. Perfect rainy day listening in my opinion. I thought I would upload my playlist to share with you all. Enjoy! 1. I Can Not Have Seen the Light - Magnolia Electric Co. 2. Won't Be Long - Ferraby Lionheart 3. Wisconsin - Bon Iver 4. My Sympathy [...]
Silver Darling are new to me. I discovered them while covering Garrett Pierce for my day job at Slowcoustic and while looking over the label page for Crossbill Records, I found another gem in Silver Darling. There is also a Matt Bauer EP that is incredible with Crossbill, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. From what I can tell this is a band that is just starting out releasing albums (2008, but Silver Darling has been in the works since 2006), gaining members and looking forward to continued growth, touring and albums. While as [...]
I was in New York last week and during my time there, as well as meeting my wonderful fellow blogger Laura I also found time to go to a couple of gigs in town. The first one I went to was Jolie Holland who was playing at a great place called The Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in Lower East Side (supported by the brilliant Ana Egge ). I also won a guitar signed by Jolie at this gig but that's another story. During Jolie's performance she invited various friends up on stage to [...]
So nobody accused Canadians of being quick (unless we are talking about hockey and drinking beer) but we do catch up eventually. All kidding aside (except for the beer part) one of the many great Canadian singer songwriters is Matthew Barber (brother of Jill Barber ) and his "Ghost Notes" album is seeing a bit of action south of the border next week on April 14th. The album has been around for us Canadians for a while and I am happy to let you 'mericans know that Outside Music is now making some of the talented northerners [...]
"I just want this record to do well," he says without irony, sipping coffee near the still-not-open venue. "I want to pay that money back. I also want to do something bigger than Ann Arbor or Ypsi. ... I get crowded into the Michigan indie folk scene a lot," he continues, and then he finishes the thought as if he scorched his tongue on the hot liquid, "I love it, but ..." That's how ended this cinematographic review of Matt Jone's first full length The Black Path from Brian Smith, editor on the Metro Times ( [...]
The wonderfully talented and easy on the eyes Jeff Zentner is back and better than ever with a new album "The Dying Days of Summer" ...although no official release date yet, Jeff tells me his CD will be available "soon" on "iTunes, CDbaby, Amazon (probably), and a number of other online places. Of course, CDs will be available from me personally." For those of you not familiar with Zentner and those of you who missed Jeff's interview on YCD last year, you can read about him here [...]
What the common point between : Robert Johnson, William Shakespeare, Karen Dalton, Jack Kerouac, Astrid Kirchherr , Lead Belly , Alan Lomax , Furry Lewis and Jacques Brel ? No Idea ? They're all united as e-friends on Howard Eliott Payne myspace page ! Howard Eliott Payne ? Howard Eliott Payne was formerly the frontman in The Stands but since disbanding a year or back, has become a solo artist to be reckoned with. He has just completed his debut solo album which was recorded and mixed in just seven days on a 8 [...]
