I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that everyone is going to go crazy for this new "film" put out by David Bowie. I for one did not really enjoy it, or really get it, call me uncultured, a philistine you may, but yeah not really into it. Check it out and see for your self. Wow! It's been a while AWmusic. To be honest, I'm not as up-to-date as I'd like to be when composing a year-end list, but I tried my best. Here are my picks for Top Music Videos of 2012, in no particular order. Enjoy! Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools good kid, m.A.A.d city - what an album! I'm not one that really enjoys hip-hop, but I knew this was an album that cannot be ignored. Frank Ocean - Pyramids [...]

What a year it has been for music. There was a mild skepticism in the air coming off 2011, but 2012 really pulled through with some amazing work from all fronts. This year saw genres expand their horizons even more than before with a lot of failure, but even more success and I was more than happy to be along for the ride. So without further adieu (and the annoying singular track descriptions,) I present my favourite 50 tracks of 2012. 50. XXYYXX - Fields 49. The Internet - Partners In Crime [...]

Not since 2008 has younger Knowles sister Solange released any concrete material. Though throughout the years she has kept her fans intrigued with one off singles and performances, she is back with an EP titled True to be released November 27th. I've always been back and forth with Solange; her talent and passion is immense but she's always sounded like she has something to prove. Her latest offerings seem to be her best though. Nostalgic and soulful, Solange sounds like she's finally found her niche. You can listen to her Dev Hynes produced single Lovers [...]

It was only 6 months ago that author, actor, poet and rapper Mykki Blanco released Join My Militia ; a hard edged, bass thumping single which exposed the web to the multi-faceted artiste. Since, Mykki has gained a certain cult status for her aggressive flow, sharp appearance and all around bad-assness. Just yesterday the California/North Carolina native dropped her mixtape Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss with features from Le1f and production by Sinden & Matrixxman, Brenmar, Flosstradamus plus more, and can be downloaded here . Listen to an album cut [...]

School of Seven Bells will be releasing their second album in 2012 on November 13, Ghostory was released in February. This time it's an EP called Put Your Sad Down that was previously only available as a download card that was sold during their recent fall tour. The EP contains four new tracks plus a cover of Silver Apples "Lovefingers". Some of these songs were played live on tour but have been tweaked slightly for a more polished sound. The first single, "Secret Days", was released by their record label, Vagrant, this [...]

Editor's note (Allan): This post was completed in 2010 and was kept private out of error. 2009 was kind of a shit year in terms of my ability to catch up with current music. It was a year of listening to old favourites, staring blankly at iTunes expecting something to change---now I don't know what is to blame; my inability to keep up at the lightning speed changes of this ridiculously technologically inclined era of music bloggers, or the ongoing power struggle for download bandwidth that was ultimately won by porn over music, or the fact [...]

Editor's note (Allan): This post was completed in 2010 but has remained private out of error. So originally I was thought it was going to be convenient to write not only about Sakamoto but also his old bandmates and maybe even his exwife Akiko and his daughter Miu, who are conveniently musicians themselves, but you know it just happens that his wife is like an Asian version of Regina Spektor from the 70s (complete with Cameron Diaz from Being John Malkovich hair) and his daughter is like skinny Charlotte Church (neither of which are compliments mind [...]

There's a bit of anonymity surrounding Bonnie Banane. To tell the truth I've been watching the video, titled Muscles , for weeks now with only basic knowledge of who the French artist is. Aside from where she stays, I could also find where to buy her Greatest Hits EP , here . Muscles , which is shot on VHS tape features Banane and the single producer Walter Mecca dancing in front of green screened clips of MTV's "The Grind." Like many others I raised an eyebrow upon the first couple watches, but [...]

Editor's Note (Allan): This post was created in 2010; out of error has been set to private. Cryptids are creatures that may or may not exist as unicorns, yeti, fairies, grinmen, jakalopes, etcetera, google that shit. Of the same name are the up and coming two (wo)man gig Colleen and Emma hailing from French Canada. To be honest with you I'm the kind of asshat who typically can't appreciate amateur musicians for their creative contributions because they mostly suck to phenomenal degrees-either they lack some integral component or offer too much. But anyway, I had [...]

Editor's note (Allan): Post was created in 2010 and mistakenly filed away as private. Uffie's highly anticipated single MCs Can Kiss is dropping in a couple days on the 25th, in case you haven't heard it yet here's the sound. So I just going to take a stab in the dark at what kind of message she wants to send out? I think it's something along the lines of 'Fuck you, I don't give a shit what you think, kiss my ass* suck my tits**"? It's not bad, I guess she can't adhere to her old [...]

Editor's Note (Allan): This post was created in 2011 and was not posted in error. With the release of their debut EP "Wake All My Youth" happening on January 31, 2012, Young Empires is definitely a band to pay attention to in the new year. Young Empires are currently signed to Pirates Blend Records . Pirate Blend Records is the label venture of Canadian rock-reggae band, Bedouin Soundclash - the label officially launched January 2010. The Toronto-based band has played alongside breakout bands like Foster the People and Sleigh Bells. Check out the catchy hooks [...]

Editor's note (Allan): This post was created in 2010 and was not published out of error. Out of respect for Spencer here is the post today. When I reviewed Eminem's last album , Relapse , I was less than impressed with the Detroit rapper's insistence on creating loathful shock songs instead of focusing on himself. Apparently he was just as disappointed with such a sub-par effort. Enter Recovery , a seventeen song, heart-wrenching, soul-baring tour de force. Eminem tackles real issues with his own life and his own past behavior [...]

Rap has always been a male dominated sector of the music industry with the women who manage to break into it more often than not having to use their sexual prowess to garner some level of attention. Angel Haze is breaking barriers with her new album focusing on her raw rather talent than her physique. Angel Haze- Werkin Girls also check out her other track New York here. It's hard not to get on the bandwagon when it comes to The Weeknd - he definitely fails to disappoint with this new track. The piano and the bass and of course Abel's voice drew me in but it was the lyrics that kept me there. Have a listen and I'm sure the track will find a way to connect to your heartstrings.. It doesn't look like 'Enemy' will be making an appearance on Trilogy, which is set for release November 13. Related posts: The Weeknd- Initiation [...]
There is a huge difference between childish and childlike - in one case you throw temper tantrums and in the other you see the joy in everything. Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros video for the new single off the ablum Here has a sweet childlike innocence temporing the usually gloomy transition between living and dying. In this video, directed by Michal Byra, a Polish fan who won a contest to direct any song he wanted off the album, we see an old man in the hospital, intravenous drip in [...]
