Screw everything. Im posting Robyn S to get it out of my head. MP3: Robin S - Show Me Love
It seems that everyone is loving Yellow Magic Orchestra at the moment. I've been trying to figure out why there's such an explosion of YMO related tunes floating around recently, but all I can settle on is that Japanese tunes are in vogue as the next, relatively untapped source of rare grooves and beats due to language differences. Italo and Euro beats are naturally more comfortable to mine through, but Japanese music history has been seemingly left untouched. Regardless, here's some tunes from solo ventures from Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto (both of YMO) if you haven't stumbled [...]
Andreas Vollenweider is a highly successful Swiss musician, known for his trademark self-modified electro-acoustic harp sound, featuring in a great majority of his work. However, Andreas also incorporates other instruments of the world into his pieces, bringing a nice blend of delightful sounds. "Down to the Moon", Andreas' fourth album (and my favourite) even received a Grammy! After a fun night with Prins Thomas, Animals Dancing is back again, throwing another party tomorrow night at the Mercat with South Korean (now Berlin-based) Hunee , house producer and Systematic Musicology graduate (studying the psychology and sociology of music). Recently appearing on the brilliant Future Times 'Vibe 22 compilation (along with Alexis Le-Tan, Steve Summers, Steve Moore, & more), Hunee has also appeared on various imprints such as John Daly's Feel Music [as Hunch] (see last track posted here), Rush Hour, Internasjonal, Permanent Vacation + more. Hunee also runs a [...]
Fantastic Afro-Pop hit from Angelique Kidjo, coming from her 1992 album 'Logozo', which is well worth looking up. As is the very hard to track down 'Jungle Club Mix' of this track, off the 123. MP3: Angelique Kidjo - Batonga In 1967 Sevac Ekian recorded a ceremony of Ingoma Tribe in the East African State Burundi. Back home he developed the idea to arrange a "musical marriage"(mariage musical). Therefore he asked the producer Mike Steiphenson to create a fitting tune to those absorbing drums he brought. In 1971 [...]
Italo disco from a queen who never quite made it big: Louise Freeman. Released in 1983 on Italy's Bubble Records on the flip with 'Aa Ee Oo Uu', and coming across like an early Madonna hit. MP3: Louise Freeman - Mirage Non-stop 100% Silk hits don't stop with a 123 from another member of US Rhythm-Punk act Mi Ami (the first being ITAL who graced Melbourne's shores just last week where I managed to catch his DJ set and an unbeatable live set too). This time the [...]

Club mix of a semi-forgotten Australian track that sits in the back of people's music memory. Yothu Yindi for Meredith 2012. MP3: Yothu Yindi - Djäpana (Gapirri Club Mix)
Norwegian space/cosmic-disco soldier Prins Thomas is making a triumphant return to the Mercat, this time in the basement, taking place this Friday (27/1) courtesy of the Animals Dancing crew. And if last time is anything to go by then we will be in for a treat this time round too. Tickets are still available from Moshtix and if you need more details, hit up the Facebook page. Support on the night from Tornado Wallace, Andee Frost and Otologic. In Animals Dancing tradition, Prins Thomas will be given control of the console until the club closes, [...]
German Michael Bundt has been involved with a number bands in the early 70s, most notably Nine Days Wonder (tracks: 'We Never Lost Control' and 'Only the Dancers', Wintergarden (album: Wintergarden III), Medusa, and his band Nerve (although recordings were never released except for two tracks on a compilation ). In the mid 70s Michael shifted from a kraut-rock sound to something more 'electronic', releasing three solo albums: 'Just Landed Cosmic Kid' (where the tracks posted below are lifted from), 'Neon' & 'Electri City'. SonusCast is the journey through the shotgun scattered sonic-mental network of a selected guest in each release, in the form of a simple mix. Influences, anthems, beat-gems and anything that fits. Deformative is one Sean Walshe, Australian expat now living in Belfast, UK. Sean hosts the notorious Go Bang nights featuring international guests such as Mi Ami, Ital and Bachelorette, amongst many others. Here he generously presents us with a deep and long insight into his picks of the crate. SonusCast ♒001 SonusCast [...]
A short collection of Unpopular Organic Beats I was meant to post last year but never got around to. ____________________ Post 'Remain In Light' era Talking Heads inspired UK Afro-Pop. Daniel Martin-McCormick proved to be one of the more diverse artists of 2011, what with the genius punk and post-hardcore of Mi Ami and Black Eyes, moving into dark synthetic pop with his solo project Sex Worker, and finally into messy/perfect, flat out twisted derivative-dancefloor anthems with Ital. Early 2011 saw the release of "Ital's Theme" his debut as Ital and also the very first release out on Amanda Brown's (LA Vampires / Pocahaunted) dance label 100% Silk. With echoes of Omar S, this orgiastic eight minute jam of interlocking arpeggiating synth-lines, gurgling bass and gnarled high-hats has [...]
The highly talented and creative Japanese born vocalist/(Dada) visual artist, Yamatsuka Eye , is down for the Sugar Mountain Festival in Melbourne and also for this years Sydney Festival . He is most known for founding the experimental rock band Boredoms in early 1986, a progression from noise band Hanatarash created by Eye, Zeni Geva and Mitsuru Tabata in 1984. Apart from Boredoms and Hanatarash, Eye has many alias and has used numerous other pseudonyms. Eye is a member of UFO or Die, Puzzle Punks, Noise Ramones and Destroy 2. Eye has also made [...]
So it's that time of the year when we start to reflect. Both Patch and I have reflected. Things that caught our ears in 2011. We reflect them back upon you. Well it's around that time where we have to wrap up the Holy day that's otherwise known as Christmas (oh, Merry Christmas readers!). If you want to wind down and relax from the all that X-Mas jazz then look no further: listen to the lush voice of Kirin J Callinan doing the talk back business; taking calls, poems, Bonds ads, etc. This was actually banned but FBI ended up playing a heavily censored version on the airwaves tonight. Christmas: Truth or fable? Siberia Records is bringing [...]
More deluxe Dark Dance tunes courtesy of Melbourne's P.C.P. (Luke Brown). Earlier on in the year we posted both his track ' Piza ' and the fantastic ethnographically confused ' Shebeen Mix '. Here's the soundcloud as well. MP3: P.C.P. - Divide MP3: P.C.P. - Vello
A total forgotten classic New Wave/Post-Punk-Pop club gem. Wide Boy Awake was Kevin Mooney, bassist for Adam and the Ants on his iconic 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' album. They only released a few EP's and 12″s but never an album before dissolving. Slang Teacher was the B-Side to the cheeseball track 'Chicken Outlaw' and god only knows why they didnt just stick to this style. Next to impossible to find in a digital format, the other Wide Boy Awake track that I could never tire of is 'Billy Hyena', released in 1984 and still [...]
