September 14th. Grand Canal Theatre.
It's a good few years since The Books last played Dublin. I'm pretty sure that it was in the Sugar Club and seeing as it's 5 years since Lost And Safe I'll hazard a guess at it being 2006 or so. Anyway, the important thing is that they'll have a new album called The Way Out which will be released in July and more immediately they're back in Dublin on Thursday, playing The Button Factory. Tickets are on sale now and cost €20 however thanks to the people at Foggy Notions [...]

I am a blogger, I am a musician, and in the last month or so I have become a record label owner. Normally I try not to wear more than one of my wannabe rock-hack, wannabe rock-star and wannabe-rock mogul hats at the same time because obviously for most people wearing multiple hats makes you look like a dick (see right). However IMRO's policy regarding the online exploitation of material that they are entitled to collect royalties on stands to effect me on all three fronts so for one time only I'm going to decompartmentalise my music related hobbies [...]
September 6th at Spring And Airbrake. That date also puts them in the frame for The Electric Picnic which would mean that there's now 4 bands that I'd be really excited to see there.
From the upcoming (out June 22nd) "Lewis Takes Off His Shirt" 12" which also features remixes of the title track by Beno ît Pioulard and CFCF as well as remixes of "Keep the Dog Quiet" by Simon Bookish and "Midnight Directives" by Max Tundra. This sounds fucking awesome. MP3: Owen Pallett - Lewis Takes Off Shirt (Dan Deacon remix) from Lewis Takes Off This Shirt 12"
Friday 14 th May – Dolan’s Warehouse, Limerick Saturday 15 th May – Cyprus Avenue, Cork Sunday 16 th May – The Academy, Dublin Monday 17 th May – Spring & Airbrake, Belfast Tickets go on sale on Wednesday
Meath loop station n' drums duo The Ambience Affair had their song "Parting Patterns" used in the opening scene (or whatecer you call it, not the cold open, the first scene after the credits) of this week's CSI: NY. It may not have Laurence Fishburne or William Peterson, it doesn't even have David Caruso taking off his sunglasses and overacting but it does have Gary fucking Sinise and that's still cool.
Genuine promo they broadcast for Rambo 3 a few years ago.

Former Ghosts (Usa, Upset The Rhythm) / Parenthetical Girls (Usa, Tomlab) & Guests - Thurs 20th May, Twisted Pepper Were it not for the fact that I'm going to see Wolf Parade that night I'd be delighted about this.
Boy oh boy the National have a new album out in May called High Violet . The band appeared on the Jimmy Kimmell show last night and performed album opener "Terrible Love."
National Concert Hall on June 22nd. Tickets, priced €15-€40 are on sale now .
May 12th. No venue announced yet but as it's a U:Mack gig I'd put money on the Button Factory.
Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous took his own life yesterday. A terrible shame, he was a wonderful musician and songwriter. Linkous began releasing music under the Sparklehorse name in 1996 with second album Good Morning Spider being my personal favourite of his releases. He was also a prolific collaborator having worked with the likes of Radiohead and Polly Harvey. In 2004 he curated and produced the best of/covers compilation The Late Great Daniel Johnston which is where this, my favourite of his collaborations came from.
Playing Whelans on June 10th. His last gig here was nothing short of remarkable. Sorry for the lack of updates in the lat week and a half. I've been on holiday in New York. I played through ex Voidoids/Lou Reed/Tom Waits guitarist Robert Quine's memory man yesterday, which I think is cool anyway. But yeah, y'all should go to this gig.
From the forthcoming (out in May) Forgiveness Rock Record it's World Sick. To download the song stick your e-mail address into the widget below and then a link to download will arrive in your inbox shortly thereafter.
