(this will never happen) Last week the Shank reported on The Giant's purchase of the Fresh & Green's (the former Superfresh) on 41st St. and the store's plan to leave its long held spot at The Rotunda - a beautiful but sorely out-dated office/mall complex (once owned by the Mencken family) a couple blocks up on 41st St. It's been almost 10 years now since Hekemian bought the Rotunda and promised the neighborhood a new development including a controversial 22-story high rise and big box corporate retail. [...]
The Coathangers released a split single with Davila 666. Their track is called "Smother".
Republicans have a hard-on for voter fraud. Or so it would seem. It is, they claim, their main motivation for Voter ID laws and stricter voter registration rules. Some might argue that they seek to limit access to the polls by minorities and the poor since those folks tend to not vote Republican, but, no-no, Republicans claim. This is to preserve one of the most sacred of American activities - the vote - from those who seek to exploit it. Never mind that, statistically speaking, you're more likely to get struck by lightning than you are to come [...]

Supporters of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul seem to be in love with his supposed uncompromised brand of "Libertarianism", which is ironic, because the very nature of Paul's candidacy shows him as a compromised, and thus flawed, candidate. The reason? There is a Libertarian Party. Ron Paul may hold some Libertarian beliefs, but he's a Republican. Secondly, how Libertarian is Ron Paul? He, like many of his religious, right wing ilk, does not believe in women's reproductive rights. Talk about your big government. This doesn't seem to make Paul's self-described "libertarian" supporters uneasy. And Paul, the [...]
A recent study from Psychological Research found children with lower IQs are more likely to develop prejudiced beliefs and become socially conservative (note, this is not politically conservative - just socially conservative). The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress [...]

by Benn Ray Well, it seems as if some of the rumors are true. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Giant Foods has acquired both the Fresh & Green's in Hampden (41st. St.) and in Parkville (on Harford Rd.) and will be opening locations there. Giant will be moving its employees from the Rotunda location over to the 41st St. location and will also be offering jobs to 125 Fresh & Green's employees. Giant is a union market. Did Fresh & Greens buy these markets to simply [...]
So a few minutes ago a friend of mine said to me something along the lines of, "Well, I'm glad the realm of utter lunacy isn't relegated to just the Republicans." Always eager to hear the stupid things other people say, I asked for more info. "Well, CNN is reporting that Obama thinks that Jesus would back his tax policy." "Huh," I thought. Obama and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things these days, but even for him that seemed unlikely. But instead of allowing myself to just [...]
