Every now and then, I'll get something in my inbox that grabs my attention. Doesn't happen very often, but in this case, and I'm not sure why, the track "Third Wave" from the band Work Drugs has done exactly that. The band, based out of Philadelphia, PA describes itself as sedative-wave/smooth-fi, which fits pretty well. Don't know if they have an album out or any additional material, as this track is the only music found on their website. I'm a bit late getting to this band Suckers and their release from this year Wild Smile. While the recording is slowly growing on me, and this song being kinda decent, the video isn't going to win any awards. What's up with the nudie suit person covered in that purple sparkly stuff? The folks over at Austin Psych Fest are working hard on series #4 of their unique festival that honors the pioneers of the genre while incorporating some of the modern artist that dip from the past while keeping it current. Taking place April 29th-May 1st @ The East Side Drive In, the festival has just released this pretty impressive list of confirmed acts. More to be announced as well. I know..another video, but it's the Clash for crying out loud. Who doesn't love the Clash? Deer Tick has been one of the more delightful music discoveries of 2010, and would probably be the last band that I would imagine to tackle putting out a Christmas tune. Their country tinged southern rock injected with lyrical content that can drain the joy out of any sunny day, just doesn't seem to lend itself to the joyous feel expected from a Christmas tune. The band has been slowing releasing tracks from their newest recording simply titled 2010 Recordings making them available for download one a month since March to warm reception. The one and only Robert Plant recorded a Milton Mapes (early version of Monahans) track for his Band of Joy release back in September. Seattle's modern folk rock outfit, Cave Singers are looking to set loose their third full-length on Feb 22nd, titled No Witch. Can't wait. Deerhunter have slowly worked their way into one of my new favorite bands. Each performance that I see only compliments the recorded material 10 fold, and each album seems to find the band developing into a musical force that isn't soon to go away.
