Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Huey Lewis and the News' Sports , the people at Funny or Die have put out a hilarious video pairing "Weird Al" with Huey Lewis for a parody of the infamous axe murder scene from the twisted psychological thriller American Psycho . Make sure to read the pill bottle at 0:47. Enjoy!
Experimental rock , uh, electronic outfit Liars drop some visuals on a track that was featured on their last full-length, WIXIW . If you remember, the album was a pretty interesting transition for the band into softer, more synthetic territory. Check a review of the album below:
On their third full-length album, the Mary Onettes don't make much of any significant changes to their sound, but they do deliver some really sharp, catchy jangle pop tunes. WATCH THE REVIEW
Deerhunter drops a surprisingly lo-fi single with the track "Monomania," which is also the title of the band's next album. The LP is set to drop on May 6th via 4AD. After releasing the well-recorded and colorfully produced Halcyon Digest in 2010, it'll be interesting to see if the rest of the tracks on this new LP follow the same noisy, garage rock-inspired suit. Enjoy!
MC and Billy Woods collaborator Elucid releases a new track and video with producer A.M. Breakups under the pseudonym Cult Favorite. They have a new album out, which you can stream via the widget below. Enjoy! FOR MADMEN ONLY by CULT FAVORITE
Liturgy frontman Hunter Hunt-Hendrix seems to be embarking upon a more solo-oriented musical journey as Liturgy's next album is yet to be released. While that's a bit of a personal disappointment, this new project, Survival, might sit a little better with those who were turned off by Liturgy's fast, abrasive black metal style. While Survival still takes away a lot from metal music, the riffs and vocals feel a bit more toned down. CoS accurately compares the track streaming above to something Alice In Chains if Layne Staley were a bit more timid. Though [...]
Cold Cave drops a moody, new single with "God Made The World," which is due for a 73 picture disc release on The Heartworm . Enjoy!
James Blake drops some visuals for the track "Voyeur," and kills two birds with one stone by promoting his new album, Overgrown , which is dropping on April 8th; plus, the dude is bringing more visibility to the label he's trying to put together, 1-800-Dinosuar. The song itself follows a similar pattern to previously released tracks like "The Wilhelm Scream." James sings beautifully, and subsequently chops and loops his vocals against electronic beats and synths that progress, progress, and progress. It's an enthralling track, and can't wait to see how it fits into the rest of [...]
Technical death metal outfit Arsis drops a track from its forthcoming LP, Unwelcome , which will be out on April 30th on Nuclear Blast Records. Enjoy!
Death Grips' full set at the 1100 Warehouse a few weeks ago during the SXSW festivities. As you may already know, I was down in front for this , and it was intense as hell. Check a review of Death Grips' latest album here:
VILAGVEGE by RORCAL A set of weird, trippy, and off-kilter hip hop instrumentals from SEENMR. The guy absolutely loves to sample, and the bass on some of these tracks is really resonant; however, don't expect any bangers on this thing. The CHINATOWN TAPE is a release that comes on a little slower. It buries itself deep into the psyche with damaged samples, low-pass filters, and ancient grooves. Enjoy! / via /
A new, downtrodden track from Elvis Depressedly-a.k.a. Mat Cothran, a.k.a. Coma Cinema -and, yeah, it's as depressing and gloom as one would anticipate. Still, the song has an eerie quality to its sadness. It's the kind of sadness that feels like it's approaching the end of something-or, rather, the edge of something. Elvis Depressedly's next album, holo pleasures , will be out via Birdtapes in the middle of April.
Tyler, The Creator returns from 20112s Goblin with a much more ambitious and worthwhile effort. WATCH THE REVIEW
Wavves really loves Nirvana's Nevermind . I have no doubt about that after listening to this record. Yeah. WATCH THE REVIEW
On Lapalux's new full-length, the UK producer seamlessly combines elements of future garage, wonky, and contemporary R&B. WATCH THE REVIEW
HARK by The Doppelgangaz Stream the latest full-length from New York hip hop duo the Doppelgangaz, Hark , via the widget above. Though the duo takes a lot away from the heyday of hardcore hip hop, don't expect something gritty and in-your-face. Rather, The Doppelgangaz prefer a much more moody and subtle approach to their deliveries and song subjects-especially on atmospheric cuts like "Oh Well." Enjoy!
Seattle rock outfit Mudhoney drops a hilariously clever video for the song "I Like It Small," which reminds me of a track the band featured on one of their recent albums, " The Open Mind ." A lot like "The Open Mind," "I Like It Small" takes a societal desire-things being big, in this case-and completely contradicts it in a way that's hilarious and satirical. Mudhoney's next album, Vanishing Point , will be dropping this week on Sub Pop Records.
The Flaming Lips drop an incredibly twisted and surreal video for the Heady Fwends track "Ashes In the Air," which features some vocal contributions from Justin Vernon, a.k.a. Bon Iver. Check a review for The Flaming Lips' Heady Fwends compilation below, and look out for the band's next record, The Terror , in the middle of April.
!!! drops another set of infectious dance beats and funky, synth-led grooves on the track "One Girl/One Boy." It's from the band's forthcoming LP, THR!!!ER. The album is dropping via Warp at the end of April. Enjoy! Check out the previously released "SLYD" here .
