New These New Puritans Video - We Want War

These New Puritans - We Want War
You should have seen our faces when we learned that the Askill brothers ( Filmmaker Daniel and Fashion Designer Jordan ) were collaborating with apocalyptic UK four piece These New Puritans . But you should really see our faces now as we're watching the final product - a brooding affair for "We Want War" the first single from the Puritan's sophomore album Hidden . Daniel Askill makes full use of the tension between light and dark - all slow motion running, underwater shots, murky tones and a Jordan Askill [...]

Memory Tapes Talks Isolation, Insecurity and Ghost Writing Pop Tunes

Memory Tapes Talks Isolation, Insecurity and Ghost Writing Pop Tunes Dayve Hawk is a reluctant rock star. He's like the anti-Bono. Better known as Memory Tapes an amalgam of previous monikers Memory Cassette and Weird Tapes, Hawk doesn't own a phone or know how to drive and calls rural Southern New Jersey home. Much like this guy the one man maestro splits his time between looking after his daughter and making music - which has drawn near Universal critical acclaim across the blogosphere. We recently chatted to Hawk (on his In-Law's mobile) and discussed the perils of media attention, new memory Tapes output and his little known career [...]

Animal Collective Film Titled ODDSAC, To Premiere At Sundance As you may remember, we recently chatted to Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear about Animal Collective's forthcoming film a "super dark" mind fuck Directed by longtime visual collaborator Daniel Perez. We've been trawling the internet for details ever since and like manna from the music Gods news has now surfaced of the film's title, ODDSAC, and the location of its world premiere - the 2010 Sundance Festival. Here's the film's synopsis taken from the Sundance website: ODDSAC / USA (Director: Daniel Perez)–An earthy, psychedelic experimental narrative infused with the band, Animal [...]

Illionaire AW2010 "Oblivious" With hemlines that fall at the upper thigh, peekaboo panels and form fitting silhouettes Illionaire's Autumn Winter 2010 collection, Oblivious , should leave onlookers anything but. Capital-L Up For Sale

Capital-L Up For Sale Much like Melbourne's Don't Come earlier this year, Sydney's Capital-L a beloved boutique on South Dowling Street, Darlinghurst has called it quits after nine years of trade. Teaser: Ksubi And Kirin Present Big In Japan

Teaser: Ksubi And Kirin Present Big In Japan For those not present at Wednesday's "Big In Japan" event I'm sorry to say, you missed the party of the year. The Ksubi/Kirin hosted extravaganza, housed in the beautiful surrounds of Sydney's CariageWorks, featured some face-twitching performance art, costumes that made Lady Gaga look like Hillary Clinton and a seemingly never-ending supply of beer, good times and a collective appreciation of all things Japanese. But for those who missed out Pedestrian caught all the action on tape with Mark "The Cobra Snake" Hunter as our tour guide. It's going to be one hell of a video but [...]

La Roux Announces 2010 Australian Tour

La Roux Announces 2010 Australian Tour Elly Jackson aka the chick with the gravity defying hair will be bringing back the force of her band 'La Roux' to Australian shores in early 2010. The electro poppers will be headlining the the East Coast Bacardi Express tour in March and will also host an additional three sideshows in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide to share the love around the country (and to make up for ditching Adelaide’s Parklife show). It feels as though they only just left the country having visited Oz just over a month ago with the Parklife [...]

Trust Fun Launches Fashematical

Pedestrian has admired the fractal taming trio behind Trust Fun. Their output, which includes psychedelic scarves and witty Fashion themed equations, never fails to delight and their newly launched zine Fashematical is no exception. Vampires vs. Werewolves? Forget that, Zombies vs. Robots is way more enticing. Mr. Jonathan Zawada explains: "To commemorate my 50th fashematics equation (I think I’m actually up to 55 or so, but who’s really counting?), with the help of IzRock Pressings, I created this zine of my favourite looks from the Spring/Summer 2010 runway shows. FASHEMATICAL is a collection of illustrations reinterpreting the [...]

Lily Allen confirms extended break from music

Lily Allen confirms extended break from music She’s said it before and no doubt she’ll say it again but apparently this time it’s for real. Like for real, for real. Miss Lily Allen is taking an extended break from the music world for a few years. Allen told the BBC she would not be performing or recording music while she sets her sights on launching a ‘record label and running a rental clothes store’. The new shop ‘Lucy in Disguise’ will be a joint venture with her sister, Sara. "It's about getting really nice clothes, but letting people rent them for affordable prices [...]

Catherine McNeil makes a Vogue cover comeback

Catherine McNeil makes a Vogue cover comeback So she’s not fat and she hasn’t been dumped by her agent instead Aussie model Catherine McNeil is looking damn fine on the cover of the January edition of Vogue magazine. The local model has been coping some fat flack recently for taking time off from the modelling world, with critics claiming she’d made too many trips to Maccy D’s and packed on a few extra pounds. Miss McNeil certainly proved those rumours wrong and what better is the most effective way to prove to everyone your still hot? You grace the cover of the [...]

Red Dead Redemption Trailer

Red Dead Redemption Trailer Combine There Will Be Blood's expansive cinematic scope with the gun slinging mayhem of Sergio Leone's back catalogue and you've got Red Dead Redemption , the latest offering from Rockstar Games. It's pretty much Grand Theft Auto re-imagined as a Spaghetti Western so instead of carjacking you'll be horsejacking (wait, that doesn't sound right), dueling with revolvers and shotguns instead of rocket launchers and semi-automatics and drinking at grimy saloons instead of seedy strip clubs. Also there won't be any helicopters or mobile phones...or Crips. A welcome change I'm sure. Don your cowboy boots [...]

Memory Tapes Remixes Phoenix Ghost Writes Pop Songs

Memory Tapes Remixes Phoenix Ghost Writes Pop Songs I just got off the phone with Dayve Hawk aka Memory Tapes the one man band responsible for my favourite and most listened to album of 2009 - Seek Material . Besides discussing self-imposed isolation, skewed media perspectives and the creative process behind his euphoric debut as Memory Tapes Hawk let slip of some forthcoming remixes for Gucci Mane, Dem Get Away Boyz (for the Cartoon Network weirdly enough) and Phoenix. A musical inevitability considering Phoenix were the most reworked act of '09 while Hawk was the most prolific remixer. More interestingly [...]

2010 Paris Vogue Calendar (NSFW)

2010 Paris Vogue Calendar (NSFW) The "Sexiest calendar of 2010" title that Pirelli seemingly had on lock now has a contender - a more abstract but no less sensual contender by the name of Paris Vogue. For those seeking a tangible product the hazy, disco-inspired calendar appears as a supplement in Paris Vogue's December issue and features the likes of Natasha Poly and Raquel Zimmerman as shot by Carine Roitfeld favourite Mario Sorrenti. Phew. If this Summer heat doesn't warrant a cold shower this hotter than Hades calendar will have you reaching for the ice cubes. Enjoy. [...]

BACKSTAGE AT VICTORIA’S SECRET WITH TOMMY TON

BACKSTAGE AT VICTORIA’S SECRET WITH TOMMY TON Tommy Ton of Jak and Jil has a knack for making details pop. Be it studs, rips or sequins the tiniest of details, when seen through Ton's lens, can appear all encompassing. Put him backstage at a Victoria's Secret show and it's stimulus overload of the best kind. So many textures! So many colours! Dude, where are my eyeballs!
