We featured Holy Ghost! on this blog last May when we posted the DFA Dance Party live from the MoMA which is still on heavy rotation at the sweet fix headquarters (aka my appartment). This time around, I wanted to share some songs and remixes from the dopest disco heads in the Brooklyn area (and beyond). The duo composed of former Automato members Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel are signed to DFA Records whose nose for talented "indie dance" acts is undeniable. If most "new disco" productions found on music blogs and heard on [...]

C??dric Marszewski aka Pilooski has made his name diggin' out old 50's/60's/70's tunes and turning them into refreshed and energized disco gems. He is responsible for a lot of the edits released by Parisian label Dirty Sound System . If you're looking to score one of these releases on vinyl, you better be fast as they only print a thousand copies of each. As a matter of fact, the following tracks were released in 2007 and 2008 and have all sold out, except for the Nina Simone rework which is part of the excellent latest instalment of [...]
In a couple of hours I'll be flying over the Atlantic Ocean on a jet plane to Barcelona. But for now, I'm done packing and I'm finding myself with a couple of minutes to kill. I thought I'd share a disco re-edit I did earlier this week. First, I gotta thank the In Flagranti guys for putting me up to this phenomenal song. They were kiind enough to let me know the name of the song that I'd heard from their live set at Big Stereo's Infatuations. Chilly is a German disco band from the late 70's and early 80's. [...]
The man who's currently ranks first in the moustache game released a new mix for the summer. Sammy Bananas delivers a great mix with his own edits, blends and production influenced by the 90s sound. Look out for his new EP coming soon on Fools gold. SUMMER OF SAMMY MIX Sammy Bananas on TTlab
I've been meaning to post some of Fred Falke 's work on here for a while now. These remixes aren't all that new but I think they passed the test of time as I still find myself going back to them on the regular. Synth heavy disco house is just what I need to keep me cool in this hot as fuck Montreal summer. Lykke Li - Im good Im gone (Fred Falke remix) The Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage (Fred Falke remix) [...]
Although Le Le's myspace claims they are from France, rumor is these guys are actually from the Netherlands. Not only are these songs catchy, they crack me up everytime. "Holla holla holla! Oatmeal and Granola". Video for Breakfast is great too. It was made by band member Pi??t Par'a (who's quite obviously also a talented visual artist). You can get the full album on iTunes . Now can someone tell me where the ho's at!? Le Le - Breakfast Le Le [...]
This is acid was Maurice Joshua's one true hit. It reached Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart #1 spot in April 1989. The K & T remix was part of the original single. Sirens, crazy synths and sexual screams in the background. That's what I'm talking about. Second track is an edit/remix I did of an unknown song from an unknown artist. Well, actually, it may or may not be called "Funky Respects". And it may or may not have been produced by a group called "2 of a kind", I don't really know. I heard Diplo drop the song [...]
Classic Chicago house was all about piano loops. There's something mesmerising about it, I feel. First, here's the anthem of all house anthems. Marshall Jefferson was one of the true Chicago house pionneers, producing both acid house and soulful house classics in the second half of the 80's. 'The Party' was released in 1987 and sold over 300 000 copies. Bizarre Inc. formed later in the early 90's. 'I'm gonna get you' was released in januray of 1993 and became a massive club hit. Marshall Jefferson - Move your body (thomas p 'easy-to-mix' edit) [...]
I'm not even finished listening to this brand new mix by the one and only Mr. Devlin but I just can't wait. I have to post this now. I'm a big fan of Chris Devlin. I can listen to his mixes over and over. Sink or Swim (that I posted here ), FabricLive 33 , better yet FabricDead 33.3 : all amazing stuff. At first listen this one promises to be in the same line. Check out his blog for more flavour and check out we make it good for the [...]
Here is 4 great mixes taken off a DFA dance party held at the MOMA in NY this past March. Great mixes of disco, soul and house by DFA records artist. Its pretty much all I've been listening to over the past few days and thought everyone should have these mixes you can enjoy at any time of the day. 1. Justin Miller & Jacques Renault 2. Holy Ghost! 3. T&T (Tim Sweeney & Tim Goldsworthy) 4. Juan Maclean [...]
I know it's all over the blogs, but for our most loyal readers / followers / groupies who only check out the sweet fix, here's what all the hype craving kids are listening to right now. Or at least they should. Singer Santogold aka Santi White and producer Johnny Rodeo along side a dream team of collaborators such as Diplo, Switch, MC Spank Rock and M.I.A. came up with a long awaited first album which should make a lot of noise in the next weeks / months. Judge for yourself. And make sure to grab the album [...]
Saying that 80's music influences today's musician is an understatement. This is why I want to do a little incursion in the Italo disco world. Also because I simply love it. This is not a top 6 list of the biggest Italo hits but rather some of my personnal favorites, lots of which I recently discovered. So let's get started. Gino Soccio is a Canadian (even better, a Montrealer) disco producer. He had a couple of hits such as Dancer and Let's All Chant. But I decided to feature The Runaway, which was released in 1980. I [...]
First off, I just wanna apologize for the lack of update in the last weeks. I promise I'll be posting more regularly from now on. So, Hamburg artist Marko Niemerski is the man behind Tensnake . In the likes of In Flagranti, which I featured on this blog here , Tensnake makes electronic / house music strongky influenced by 80's Italo Disco and synth pop. But he takes it beyond the simple pastiche to create sexy floating cosmic grooves. He released a first EP in 2006 called Restless and followed it with [...]

It's been a minute since I last posted some music but I've been listening to a lot of old grooves which I'm planning to feature on here. I thought I'd start with some classic late 70's / early 80's disco funk. First up is Jimmy "Bo" Horne's Spank. Just by looking at this dude's face on his record cover, you know he's a freak and he means every line of this song. No, but really, how priceless is this cover!? Second song I got on the fullyfitted blog . It's a Devlin edit of a 1978 song from [...]

The 70's and 80's were the golden era of great TV show themes. Whether it'd be the blaxpoitation soulful and funky kinda themes, the 80's synth-pop anthems or the more classic kinda orchestral type of songs, the following themes had a life of their own, outside of their respective tv serie. A lot of these songs, if not all of them have been sampled and/or covered. The Miami Vice Crockett's theme was covered for the 2006 remake (that version is awful though). It was also covered by Fpu Project. Knightrider was sampled by Panjabi MC on Mundian to Back Ke [...]
Its not a joke. That rave rap thing was totally predictable. I remember telling people 3 years ago that electro rap was going to blow up. I feel like its gonna be a hit but I'm not sure if I like the song. The chorus is good but I'm not sure about the verses...Anyway, look out for the Posse cut remix produced by Justice featuring Gdep, Memphis bleek, Cadillac Tah, Peter Gunz & Killah Priest.... Dj Eli is one of my favorite producer/remixer right now. He really has his own sound and it's not comparable to anything else. What's interesting is that his production is influenced by some older stuff like disco and 80s electro music and he's able to make it sound actual. His twist on music is everything that a dancefloor wants without compromising the musical aspect of the song. Here is a couple of my favorite songs including his new banger with legendary Mark the 45 King & Pase Rock. 45 King & Pase Rock - [...]
