I know it's been ages since I've posted on here. I'm not really sure what my plans are for the blog at this point. In the meantime, here's something that's been floating around on the one decent radio station we have around here in Cincinnati. That's right. Shoutout to WLHS 89.9 Lakota Radio . If only my high school had a radio station like you... I have no idea who Elk City are, and I don't know what kind of band they are. But I do know that I just might like their [...]

Well... I thought I was done with the whole blog thing. Then this came in the mail a few days ago. Pomegranates' second full-length is definitely an improvement from its predecessor. When Two Eyes hit back in 2007, I was very impressed. A year later, they released their first full-length. I heard a few songs here and there, and ultimately just kind of lost interest. It's not that I actually disliked Everything Is Alive , I just never gave it a chance because it never hooked me in. Multiple listens of [...]

With just a week before the physical release of Bloc's latest, we're seeing a few bonus tracks popping up here and there. Below you'll find the most recent two. Keep in mind that these are rips from the internet, so they're not the best of quality. Honestly though, don't worry about it. This is just more throwaway material from Bloc Party. I actually like the weird little atmospheric guitar sounds in Letter To My Son, but Kele Okereke's new voice just kills it. I'm really getting tired of this pseudo-pop with vocals that have been through all sorts of auto-tune [...]

Today is a good day. My relentless quest for any material from Japanese pop-rock band The Chewinggum Weekend has finally come to an end. I managed to nab both of their studio lengths, and two singles. Japanese pop-rock. It's good stuff. Seriously. A Japanese Weezer, this is not. In fact, I think they might be better. The rhythms are faster. The guitar lines more intricate. The melodies... Possibly even catchier. It's a shame they disbanded in 1999. But if you like what you [...]
I never thought I'd have any praise for anything Flux related (Other than the GoodBooks Magnetism Remix , which I find to be better than the original song) but Bloc Party mixed things up back in August, and I've just come across the MP3. I wouldn't exactly call it a mashup, but Kele starts off Flux with a pretty straightforward cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" before segueing into Flux around the 1:30 mark. A while ago I would have found it to be an odd occurrence, but these days I don't really [...]

I'm back! So much has happened since I last posted on here. Bloc Party released a surprisingly decent 3rd album over the internet, TV On The Radio got funky on our asses, Noel Gallagher was assaulted mid-song, the entire planet wasn't actually sucked into a black hole due to the Large Hadron Collider... But you already know all this, so I'll just get back to the usual routine. Here's an obscure song I'm posting on impulse. Some of you will know where I found this. (Hai guise.) I've no idea where this song originated from, but I'm [...]
Obviously I haven't made a post on here in a long time. I've got really limited access to a computer at the moment (And probably for most of the summer.) I'm definitely not quitting for good, it's just that it's pretty hard to keep this thing going at the moment. I'll be back with constant posts in a few months. Sorry to all the bands who sent me their stuff. I honestly love hearing from you, I just don't have the time right now. - Tim

Local Cincinnati band Pomegranates have definitely made it big. I wish I could say it's been like watching a child grow up, but I've only been aware of them for about a year. One thing's for sure, and that's that it definitely didn't take long to happen. It's been just shy of a year since their debut EP, and the release of their first full length LP tomorrow (May 13th) is pretty exciting. They've managed to gain some well earned publicity by playing sessions with WOXY and Daytrotter (Coming soon), and associating themselves with some pretty big names. The band [...]

I'm kind of busy today, so I thought I'd just get a quick post in. My UK import of Tokyo Police Club's "Elephant Shell" just arrived with the bonus disc included. Featuring remixes by Dntel, Tom Campesinos, Flowers Forever, The Good Life, and Field Music, it actually sounds quite promising. Unfortunately, other than the last two tracks it's really nothing special. Most of the remixes are just kind of slow, awkward sounding, and uneventful. Aside from the mixes, New New Song and the Friends of P cover almost make up for this completely. I'm curious as to why they didn't [...]
"A mix of Shoegaze and Electronica, Elika is equal parts Slowdive and Boards of Canada combined with elements from My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, and Flying Saucer Attack. Their music washes neon-tinted melodies with multilayered, psychedelic percussion. " - Fiercely Indie I'll start this off by saying that it's almost scary how perfect this band is for me. Just a week ago, I made a playlist on my iPod consisting of every single one of those bands/artists. *Insert Twilight Zone theme [...]

It's not often a band comes out of nowhere and takes a considerable foothold in the indie-rock community with a 16 minute EP, but Tokyo Police Club have managed to do just that. A Lesson In Crime was a real gem back in 2006, and is definitely my favorite EP ever. Crunching quality that most established bands only hope to achieve into such a short EP must have been no easy feat, but the band have proven it to be their specialty. Elephant Shell (Officially released yesterday in the [...]
Last weekend was fun. I went to see Minus The Bear play a show with some openers I've never really heard of before at Bogart's (A shitty venue in Cincinnati). Actually, I barely even listen to Minus The Bear in the first place. Nevertheless, I was dragged along anyway. We got there a little late, and some band ( Portugal. The Man ) was already up on stage playing. They almost sounded like a more chilled out Mars Volta, with some pretty hectic guitar riffage. They were all right, but [...]
Hey guys. Obviously this whole "Make a post every 2-3 days" thing isn't going so well. I'm sorry, but for the moment, I'll probably only make a post once a week, maybe 2 if I have time. Don't worry, I'll do my best to make up for it in content. I have something pretty sweet planned for the release of Elephant Shell that will hopefully work out ok. I'm also seeing Minus The Bear and possibly Tegan And Sara in a few days. Moving on, I'm back with my third mix. I like to think of this one as a [...]
The single came out two weeks ago, but I've been gone for a while... I kind of lost track with what was happening in the music world. Upon the release of Guillemots' single "Get Over It", I'm left wondering: Why did it take me so long to discover them? Guillemots are everything one could ever want in an indie-pop group, utilizing catchy hooks, a wide range of sounds, and smart lyrics to craft some great songs that will surely keep your attention for a while. "Get Over It" is just a perfect pop song with an amazing chorus. I know [...]
Hey guys, it's been a while. I just got back from Salt Lake City, and it's good to be home... Kinda. Many hours were spent skiing, hot tubbing, N64ing, and generally chillaxing. Oh, and I saw Tokyo Police Club play a show in what was essentially a garage which was really neat. But more on that later, and I need to get a video from the gig from someone (which might take some time). Speaking of TPC, anyone who's in the know should be aware that Elephant Shell is now available for a pre-release on iTunes. If you're not an [...]

Hey guys. If any of you have noticed, I haven't made a post on here in quite some time. This is due to a massive amount of homework, tests, and projects. One involving me having to remodel a 10 block area in 3D... That sucked, as I was up till 4AM and my computer almost exploded. I'll be honest I'm just a really lazy person overall and kind of forgot about this whole blog thing. I know it's not like I've gone a month without posting, but when I started this I vowed to update frequently. So I kind of [...]

I'm a sucker for post-rock shoegazy stuff. The sound is just really refreshing to me, and Tristeza is no exception. You may have noticed that I stuck a track from this group on my last mix . If you're a fan of this kind of music, you probably know The Album Leaf. Well, James LaValle was originally in Tristeza before embarking on the solo project. A Colores ("In colors") is the third full length from the San Diegan instrumental band, and it's an nicely layered mix of instrumental post-rock and psychedelia. The record overall sounds pretty melancholy (That's actually [...]

Yarg! Here's the first track "Pirates" on mr. Gnome's upcoming album, Deliver This Creature . Mr. Gnome is an indie-rock band from my very own state of Ohio, and they've been described by the press in a variety of, shall we say... Creative ways. My favorite is "Death From Above 1979 with the intense vocal wail of Diamanda Galas, while Kurt Cobain sits in on guitar". Seriously, that's a bit much. Regardless, they're a pretty good band, DFA-esque or not. While this track is actually pretty tame, and not quite the [...]

There's about a foot of snow outside and nothing to do. So I figured why not make another mix? No theme really comes to mind for this one, it's just a collection of songs from different genres that I've been enjoying lately. As you can see, there are some more recent songs, as well as some that a lot of you already know about. Only the first 2 tracks (UNKLE and Moby) are actually electronic this time. Oh, and about that first track by UNKLE. It's a brilliantly epic remix/mashup, and something I really had to search around for. [...]
A teaser for Tokyo Police Club's upcoming album Elephant Shell , as well as a new track from LCD Soundsystem trickled out into the internet a few days ago. I couldn't be happier with the new track from Elephant Shell . It's still the same Tokyo Police Club we know and love, but with slicker production. The song "In A Cave" is actually the centerpiece of the album. Previously titled [...]
