Two great articles today : Father John Misty at Bonnaroo "I'm in music for the same reason anybody else is: It's a transcendent thing," he said before heading to his trailer backstage. "I like to maintain my status as an observer of culture and a performer, and sometimes those things are in conflict. Sometimes really interesting things come out of that, so I'm not that didactic. I just like to fuckin' get inside of an idea and ask myself every question that that idea poses. When I'm inside a song and [...]
Either through irony or accident, Grace Potter’s four-man backup crew, the Nocturnals, looked very much awake as they filed on stage at Red Butte Garden Sunday to play instrumentals in "Hot Summer Night." Potter somehow made the amphitheater mercury head north as she began the set from the crowd and voluntarily lost her shawl into the front row after she hit the stage, unveiling a healthy bit of skin along with a sprawling vocal scale. more at the Salt Lake Tribune
Masterpiece Plus, for no reason, Glen Hansard covers the Dylan song that The Band played frequently. In my mind, Glen can cover anything.
Relix has finally published their cover story online . Dean Budnick provides an excellent summation of where the band has been - think of it as a magazine story length bio. For longtime fans their isn't much in the way of new information here save for a slight anecdote or two. If, however, you want the "story of record", I know of no better place to get it. This quote might be the most telling for me. “I’ve seen a lot of struggle in the people I care the [...]

Daytrotter!!! Neil Young!!! Listen Here!!! Two words for Crosby, Stills and Nash - Crazy Horse! This is rock 'n' roll as it was meant to be played: barely in tune and teetering on the brink of oblivion. No wonder Neil Young preferred rockin' in the free world with these guys over CSN's cuddle-folk round-up. You can hear the blood and sweat in every stuttering guitar jab, Danny Whitten's raspy tenor the perfect counterpoint to Neil's wavering holler. Recently plucked from obscurity as a Laurel Canyon garage band, the Horse is in fine form during [...]
Listen to "Devils Train" on the Rolling Stone website Grace Potter and the Nocturnals wanted to capture the right spirit for The Lone Ranger: Wanted, so the Vermont folk-rockers reached back in time to immerse themselves in The Lone Ranger's origins as a radio show. When the band looked back on that history, they found an old country gem in "Devil's Train" and set to work on an adaptation. "I'm a big movie geek, so when we were invited to contribute to the project, I got really into it and started researching the original [...]
via 7 Days Vermont Sure, the big name headlining acts at the Grand Point North Festival are always great. (Seriously, have you seen this year's lineup? Siiick.) But the heart and soul of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals' annual festival are all the local bands who, ahem, grace the stage. Problem is, there are so many great locals to choose from, it's hard to know where to start. So we're asking you to help us fill one last slot at this year's GPN festival — happening September 14th [...]
