New Hot Chip side projects really getting to me these days. First these guys: The 2 Bears (Note: it's download able. Thanks Southern Fried x DFA) & then there's these folks: New Build New Build - Yesterday Was Lived And Lost (Album Sampler) by newbuild Really enjoying Mercy from New Build especially!
I love dropping in a nugget of golden-era hip-hop into my mixes. Virtually all of the hip-hop beats from that time were samples of funk, soul, and r&b jamz from the late 70s to mid 80s, which I think can make for great transitions. Case in point two fun* hip-hop songs both sampling Patrice Rushen: Dj Honda (1998) - not golden-era, but close. Patrice Rushen (1984) Tragedy (1993) - *serious lyrics over a party beat. Patrice (1982) - lovely production.
Apparently shot on location in Miami during a hurricane watch.

Although this young UK-based label has only been around since '08, Mullet Records has already managed to release numerous nu-disco, nu-house, nu-whatchamacallit, top quality jamz. Signed artists include Hype Machine notables: Tesla Boy, Casio Social Club (label founder), ODahl, and one of my new favorites, Satin Jackets. They've got no website, but a pretty good soundcloud page . Check it out... Chordashian - Don't Wait Up EP • (Preview) by Mullet Records DATO [...]
I'm starting/proposing a new recurring 'column' that would list vinyl we just picked up from dollar bins. Consider it a celebration of crate digging, even though I realize how the internet has provided us with any song we ever want to hear at any time without the fun of the journey in digging through stacks of vinyl. The fact that I'm linking Youtube videos of these tracks kind of makes my mind explode. Even though I probably will not DJ with vinyl much anymore, I'm still addicted to searching through record shops. More specifically, dollar bins [...]

Wham! is every great dj's secret weapon, just ask BLCK DMND and The Arctic Cat*. Perfect to put on when your set is getting too obscure or too bland. Here are two great re-edits to keep in your crate: Wham! - Last Christmas (Matthew Kyle Edit) - Slow burner, gets good at 2:37. Wham! - Everything She Wants (Morgan Geist Unreleased Edit) *Travel back in time to 2008.

Had to transfer all my music to a new laptop, and have been going through lots of tracks I forgot were in my archives. 'Let Me Do It' is a true soul/boogie gem. The beat sounds like a precursor to the 90's neo gospel sound (can anyone i.d. the instrument at 1:11? flute? clarinet? it's genius). The band members are still around too, you can read a mediocre interview about their origin here . Also, buy this record if you can find it as an early release ( not a re-release ); its mean resale value is [...]

Motivation IV- Put Your Foot In It I think this track was posted on Beat Electric awhile ago, but they missed the opportunity to post this amazing fan made video. The Soul Train dance moves are unbelievable, personal favorite is the guy at 1:14

I made a deal with Jake. We had to make mixes by the end of last night. No pre-planning. Here it is. You still love me, dontcha? SPACEcave by HEATHSTROKE

HiFever's baby boy (Grey) is 28. These 28 minutes are for you, my friend. Sorry for the mess ups, it's not to be taken metaphorically--only that it was mixed on the fly. 28on28 by hortonseth

HiFever is 4 years old today! To celebrate, I went on a trip down memory lane from this year's blog posts and came up with a list of my top 12 posts from this year. Some of these were based on the music in the post, some on the title of post, some on the content of the post, some on the creativity of the post. Here they are in chronological order. Looking forward to Hifever 2012. What are your favorites of this year? HIFEVER TOP 12 (in chronological order): [...]
