It's spacey and kinda cheesy... it's Barem! Both of these tracks are off the 2007 12" Never Better Than Late . Barem - Ears.mp3 Barem - So Serial.mp3
I was going through, I am going through a pretty large Vangelis phase. I really like his spaced out- cinematic- electric drug vibe. Have you seen Blade Runner? He did the soundtrack! So this is his band (Aphrodite's Child) from the 60's-70's, their Greek and I know what you're thinking Greek music's lame as shit, but this is really good. It's got that emotion thing, this guy's singing from his depressed soul about a girl or something. It's going to make you feel sad and shit!
I guess I was first introduced to Italo Disco through hearing Sally Shapiro's Disco Romance last January (even though it's really only paying dues to true Italo Disco artists of the 1980's). One of the most poingant images I have in my head, in relation to Sally Shapiro, is listening to Disco Romance while carefully driving down a winding road somewhere in Boone. Snow was falling, the roads were patched in ice, and I had just spent the day skiing and eating Italian (italo?) food with Grey and Mr. Ahhh(h?). To me, this time of year seems [...]
Wow, what a party! Black Diamond and I think it was one of the best ever, and it was good to finally meet Phillip Fill. Here's one from earlier in the night by Lindstrom. I think it's pretty rare as far as Lindstrom tracks go but it's already on a lot of blogs. I've always thought it was good but now I KNOW it is because it got Prez dancing. Enjoy. [...]

I have recently rediscovered this album. Please listen to it. "Outrun" is awesome. artist: Thomas Bangalter album: Trax On Da Rocks (vol 1) label: Roulé year: 1995 Thomas Bangalter - On Da Rocks.mp3 [...]
I stumbled upon this italo/eurodisco artist today on someone else's Myspace. The track is in Spanish, which is a welcome change for me since I find it hard to find many Spanish disco/electro songs I like. Anyway, he was a pretty big deal in the italo/eurodisco genre in the 1980's apparently and I think you'll see why once those bells come in after about 27 seconds. The video (probably) won't blow your mind--but the main focus of this post is the song itself.

Eastwest, out of Berlin, are comprised of Boys Noize, from Boysnoize records, and Housemeister, also of Boysnoize records and their 12" single that came out in 2006 was released, unsurprisingly, on Boysnoize records. I've just started listening to it now, and I think I like it. eastwest - easy come easy go.mp3 [...]

I've been listening to Joni Mitchell's Don Juan's Reckless Daughter lately, which, as its bizarre cover art suggests--that's Joni in blackface on the left--is probably a stretch for someone who's already an "acquired taste." But I like this style, mostly because of Jaco Pastorius' bass, better than her Court and Spark days. This is supposed to be the album where she was coked-up and blacked out for most sessions, but I'm not so sure. Either way, something about Jaco gets me in a way i don't understand, like that part in "Africa": I could play it [...]

Here's more forgotten boogie from the London based group Loose Ends. This song is the last track off of their 1986 release entitled Zagora [not pictured]. The album's not rare or expensive, just nice and funky (listen to that bass pop). Loose Ends - Let's Get Back to Love

Here's a new track by Sébastian Tellier, off the forthcoming "Sexuality" LP expected next month. Sebastien has described it as "a tribute to the Beach Boys and the Juicy Fruits (from the 1974 musical Phantom of the Paradise). It's about a time of innocence – when having fun was more important than picking up girls." Pacific and Midnight Juggernauts are expected to make remixes. See what you think. [...]

Matthew Dear, the guy on the right, sometimes goes by Audion--and "False" and "Jabberjaw," apparently--but here he's just Matthew. I played this song from his album Asa Breed during a rotation show at WUAG last year and, as weak as i am for anything that rolls in any category resembling "catchy," i carried a torch for this song all year. Usually I can't tell with these things (see later: Curse ov Dialect) if it's actually good or what, but i saw this album on some top ten lists of the year so maybe i was onto [...]

I found a video on youtube that claims to contain a new track by Sebastian. I couldn't find anything else about it but it sounds fucking amazing. I was a little disappointed by his remix of Sebastien Tellier's "Sexual Sportswear", and again disappointed with the "new/untitled" track that was on so many blogs. But I persevered, and I just knew, deep down inside, that one day he would come back with something that could top Ross Ross Ross. If the track in this video (the second song) is indeed Sebastian's, then I was so right. But perhaps I'm still under [...]

I was grooving HARD to it this morning. They are two French producers blah blah blah Chateau Flight - Baroque Chateau Flight - Baltringue

So you might have heard, mere days ago, that the mix Justice submitted to Fabric Live was rejected, but I'm just hearing it now. I found a zshare link to it (due to my fear of technology I don't know how to make this into a link, and I don't care to learn. That goes for all future posts as well. Hopefully you can cut, copy, paste, er scotch tape that link on up there). And they were right, it IS full of "weird disco tracks and French novelty acts", and supposedly that's why it was rejected. Some think it [...]

This rendition of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" is by Negative Fonda and was recorded live at the Carrboro Coop House last month. I wasn't there so I can't say who was playing what so I'll just say that the band includes Andrea Stroud, Laura Parsons, and Rachal and Roxann Spikula. Andrea sings. I really like it and I think you will too. I_Feel_Love.mp3 [...]
Here's another super rare 80's boogie gem by two brothers from Chicago, Leroy and Robert Martin, better known as Mid Air. As you would expect, there's virtually no information on the duo, or their label. To give you an idea of how rare we're talkin, only 3 known copies of this record were auctioned off on ebay in 2007, selling for an average price of $439 (check prices at popsike ). Enjoy. [...]

Wow, Mr. Ahh leaves a tough act to follow! But I'll give it a shot. Here are two excellent "re-edits" by Norwegian nice-guy Todd Terje. While the changes to these tracks probably do fall short of "remix" categorization, they are certainly significant edits that change the feel of the songs. Terje has gained a following through not only his many re-edits of old classics, but also with his original compositions. I'll save those for some other time though. [...]

My apologies to THSND SLND and Deeep Dish (maybe Zack too) who have been forced to listen to this blasting from my room for the past couple of days and nights. But in my defense this song is an emotional thrill ride, a story for the ages, and the Munich Machine version has a saxophone that makes my eyes water whenever played (that's not a joke, ol Mr. AHHH has a bit of a soft spot when it comes to this type of saxophone playing). A Whiter Shade of Pale was originally written/preformed by the [...]
