Shoegaze's not dead!

Today I finally got my hands on Respandor 's new album, P L E A M A R . Resplandor comes from Lima - Peru and they have a very nice way of combining shoegaze with dream pop, noise pop and indie. I'm only familiar with this particular record, but they have 3 previous full length albums starting from 2000. I will surely check them out. I feel in love both with the album cover and the content. This really is shoegaze, [...]

When the future comes

Some songs just give me a really weird feeling. A mixture of different emotions, and moods. I have all sorts of flashbacks, moments when I was listening to the song in question, persons with whom I was, or I was talking to at the moment...or even mentioned the song. Thoughts about the future...about what is to come, what sort of plan has life for me. A mixture of good and strange feelings. Something I can't realize if I'm comfortable with. And yet I find myself listening - on repeat, for the last hour - to this [...]

Such a thief.

I stole this little game from the workaholic björkaholic because it's simple and it can give one an idea about my small things in life and all that. Plus, I'm just curious how many things I did in life. So, in bold, what I did so far (but remember, I'm only 21 so there's plenty of time left for the others), and in brackets, some comments: 01) Bought everyone in the pub a drink 02) Swam with wild dolphins 03) Climbed a mountain 04) Taken a [...]

There's no such thing as asthenia*

There's no such thing as asthenia* Contrary to popular belief - that once spring settles most of the people are facing a weird and unexplainable feeling of weakness, apathy, mild form of depression - I am feeling pretty happy-ish lately. My mood is way up, I'm only listening to happy music; Spring really makes me justice :D Also, in the last 2 days I've been listening to all sorts of bands that made my childhood brighter - like Roxette , Bon Jovi , Savage Garden , and other like these - and I must admit, [...]

Debut

Debut People often ask me if I know why I only became really famous after I traded the Sugarcubes for a solo career. But I don't really understand that myself. Even though I do have a suspicion. There's a strange kind of law that says: the more selfish you do something, the stronger the result will eventually be. I started on Debut with that idea. I made that record from a completely egoistic point of view: I was only pleasing myself and making a record I would buy. Because if I'd concentrated on other people's tastes and on the question whether [...]

Figure Skating

When I was younger I used to watch the World and the European Figure Skating Championships every year. I haven't seen them in about 3 years, but this weekend I watched the free programs for dancing and for men from the World Figure Skating Championships in Göteborg . I was pretty sad. I don't know, they seemed less graceful to me, and much more preoccupied with technique. Plus, the male costumes are absolutely horrible. Lots of glitter and beads...even something resembling a skirt over the pants. I mean...come on! they are guys...don't take away all their pride. What happened [...]

Trains

Trains I'm going away for the weekend, to my hometown, to see my parents. I'll be traveling my style ;) that means by train. I just looove trains. They always make me reminisce, I can read on the train (cars make me woozy). Of course I have a good music selection on my iPod. Of course, one is never absent while I'm traveling by train, and that is Porcupine Tree 's Trains . Perfect song for a train ride :D

The London Apartments

The London Apartments- Stories of Big Cities & Bigger Hearts
A little bit of indie, some electro and a dash of shoegaze some fine fine vocals and there you are. You've got The London Apartments . The London Apartments is actually Canadian Justin A. Langlois . He started singing in 2003 and recorded several Eps which can be found on his site and a full length album, Romanticism Aside (in 2005) Amazing [...]

All is full of passion

All is full of passion A lot of people confuse the words modern and cold and think that modern music is supposed to be cold with no emotion. I think this is rubbish, because emotions will always be our main drive. What I like about the Brodsky Quartet is that they can play some of the bery stark chamber music written in the last 20 years, but remain completely full of passion. This is what had to say about The Brodsky Quartet. And you can hear all that passion here: Björk & The Brodsky Quartet - Prayer of the Heart. [...]

Starbucks

Starbucks Starbucks finally opened in my town and the coffee lover in me went there for a coffee this Saturday. Besides the fact that the place looks really good, that must be coffee heaven. Because I mostly drink my coffee black, I had an Espresso. A really really good one. This is gonna be one of my favorite places :D

The Fall

The Fall Sometimes I am still amazed at how good some songs can sound. I fell in love with Ane Brun after listening to her Balloon Ranger . That song got me hypnotized. I've been listening to her ever since and I got really happy when I found out that she's gonna release a new album this year. She made a really nice move and she put all the songs from The Changing of the Seasons - the new album - [...]

Spotless

There's no feeling like the one after I've just finished cleaning the house. Not that is not clean all the time :D but once every two weeks or so I clean it thoroughly (special attention to every corner and detail) and every time I finish I have this great feeling inside. I looove it. I take a good bath and I crawl inside my changed sheets and sleep like a baby :D Best cleaning soundtrack for me - Deftones . [...]

Third

Third Yes, I'm a bad person. But I've been waiting for this album for so long so when I heard that Portishead 's Third leaked, I downloaded it and enjoyed it immediately. And I really had what to enjoy. This album is great. It was worth waiting so much for it. Hunter or The Rip are absolutely amazing songs. I'm finding myself again in a Portishead mood these days. Highlighted song, [...]

Dancing

Dirty Dancing last dance Time of your life
I"m such a sucker for movies that have something to do with dancing. Most of them are not even good - the plot is boring of predictable - but I watch them anyway because there is a lot of choreographed dancing - ballet, hip-hop, South American, combined - and the actors and dancers do it sooooo good. This is why Dirty Dancing and Save the Last Dance are among my favourite movies. Well, I know the first one is a classic and everything, but they look soooo good when they're [...]

No Reservations

No Reservations Directed by: Scott Hicks ( Shine , Hearts in Atlantis ) Cast: Catherine Zeta-Jones , Aaron Eckhart , Abigail Breslin I must say that both the director and the cast made me watch this movie. I really really loved Hicks ' Shine and most of all, Hearts in Atlanis (one of my all time faves) . Aaron Eckhard had a great performance in Thank You For Smoking and so did [...]

The Fierce and the Longing

The Fierce and the Longing The Swedish four-pieced band Audrey announced their second full length album for the 17th of April. The name of the album is The Fierce and the Longing. I'm totally in love with their music and I am so anxious to hear the new material. They released their first album, Visible Forms, in 2006. The album has one of the greatest covers all time and 9 great songs. [...]

The Treehouse Song

Is the name of the new video by Ane Brun. Both the song and it's video are really nice. Now I'm even more anxious to listen to the new album, Changing of the Season, which is announced for this year.

Sundays

I've always hated Sundays. Even more than Mondays. I go into a gloomy state and get melancholic and all that. Mostly because it marks and end, even if it's just a week. I know I should take advantage of it, sleep and do stuff for me, but I'm not in the mood for such things, so I mostly listen to mellow music that only amplifies my state, watch cheesy/bad movies or series that I've already seen. I wish it was always Thursday :) On [...]

Souvenirs

Souvenirs Every time I have a The Gathering listening session - like today, for example, I get sad at the thought of Anneke not being in the band anymore. I've discovered the band about 5 years ago, and I instantly fell in love with them. Kevin's Telescope was my first obsession and many more came after it. Even my mom liked them. I was listening so much of them that she really got used to the band and she always said that Anneke has a really beautiful voice, in a soothing way - and I totally agree [...]

Live for today. Each day's an open door

Live for today. Each day's an open door I instantly fell in love with this song the first time I listened to Marbles . I like Marillion a lot. And I like (almost) all their songs. But there are a few which are beyond that...I just love them. One of these is Don't Hurt Yourself . This song has a great message. I don't even have to say anything more, cause the lyrics speak for themselves. Please listen to this song...and for that matter, [...]
