Rating: 8.5/10 As the years pass by in twos, so are we brought a new album by the beloved indie electronica duo, School Of Seven Bells ("SVIIB"). We saw SVIIB drop "My Cabal" back in 2007 and the buzz hasn't stopped since. With their latest album, concisely titled Ghostory , Benjamin Curtis and Claudia Deheza set course for a new take on their careers with a more mature offering for their massive indie following. Curtis, who's brains and guitar skills tap into the ethereal dreamscapes which loosely [...]

Some might call this a rainy day mix, but since rainy days tend to keep people inside, this list targets people who want to get out while they can. This list has the moods you'll follow should an apocalyptic event should strike: excitement, enjoyment, despair and finally peace. This includes the last recorded track from The Cinematics as well as the single for Bad Veins ' new album. Theoretical Girl redoes and outshines the Chris Isaak version of "Wicked Game" and we have some remixes thrown in for added pleasure. Rock out like the [...]
Watching Beirut's "Vagabond" in black and white is like a brief departure from the present. The jazz hall horns lend to a classic, before-our-time appeal, and with sailors and the ladies of the land in this video, it all comes together. I'm not sure what it really all means in the end, but a cocky sailor gets what's coming, a magician sailor surprises himself and people are smoking cigarettes and drinking beer like it's going out of style. This video was produced by Sunset Television, the same people that brought " Sante Fe " to life. [...]
Sometime last year, we touched on the importance of having an organized library and wrote several articles including 12 Free Ways To Discover New Music and How To Use iTunes And Make The Most Of Your Librar y. After all, there's no point reading this article if you don't have music. It would be like trying to dunk without a basketball (it doesn't make sense!). Since this time, we've explored using both TuneUp for iTunes and Rinse by RealNetworks (review coming soon). If you haven't yet organized your library, [...]

It seems it has always been too long since we heard some new School of Seven Bells , who are comprised of Benjamin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza . At their show in the beginning of last year, we were surprised that Claudia was not at the show but later discovered she left the band for personal reasons. As a result, School of Seven Bells' new album Ghosting marks the band's first album with just two. Their latest track, "Lafaye", marks yet another cryptic song title, but very aptly fitting for their haunting [...]

Formerly running with the moniker, Old Husband, the Adelaide, Australia-based due Manor (Nathaniel Morse & Caitlin Duff) hit us like a brick with their track "Rhodesia". Harmonization like that of the Beach Boys intertwines with a California beach-like vibes like that of The Shore . Duff's vocals will make you melt, Morse's song-writing talent will tear your world apart. This is perhaps one of the best tracks we've heard all year. Manor - Rhodesia For more Songs of the Week from previous weeks, [...]

Please, girl. You should be dancing with me... That's what our fellow foursome Nameless dropped on the Kitsune Parisien II sampler within the past month. In terms of samplers, we can't say enough about the quality Parisien delivers. In terms of dance-pop bands Nameless vents similarities like likes of Panic! At The Disco (with a few French words here and there). These guys deliver some solid keyboards, guitars and an all-around band effort with "Angelina". Pump it up, it's the weekend! More Nameless on Soundcloud . [...]

A healthy-sized crowd showed up on a cold Wednesday night to hear the band from Sheffield, England play their very dreamy and very British songs. Of the many clubs to get into these days ( Bombay Bicycle Club , Gem Club , Chapel Club , Bleeding Knees Club , etc.), Slow Club is amongst the very best. Their brand of British tunes remind me of what the Beatles would sound like if they [...]

For Puff Daddy and company, it's all about the benjamins. For MUF, it's all about getting that REM sleep with some good indie sleep music . For our followers, you already dug into Sleep Music Vol. 1 , which featured some ridiculously sleepy songs with the likes of Bon Iver and Tycho (both on our top 100 songs of 2011 ). Remember, we're not going mainstream on you, so you probably haven't heard any of these songs. The truth about these sleep lists is I made them for my wife, who [...]

Looking back to mid-December when I picked the Galaxy Nexus over the iPhone 4S, I've come to realize that Google Music has been there all along. Sure, the iPhone would have been a solid pickup with the iTunes library, but since I sit on a train for 80 minutes daily and I am not a playlist guru like Brendan , I opted for the 4.6" screen and the 4G LTE speed I have access to. Now that I have this device for the next 20 months, I've had to figure out if I actually like Google Music. [...]

Have you ever listened to a group's discography and then realized that their new album is coming out the next day? For me, that happened on the eve of the new Islands' album. While I enjoyed Arm's Way (2008), Vapours (2009) thrust me into fandom. Exciting, right? Along with A Sleep & A Forgetting, we won't forget the thrilling Sick Friend album, sick vibes from The Phenomenal Handclap Band and something for perhaps a matured ear with The Explorers Club. Canada's Islands even have some excellently creepy videos (" Creeper ", " [...]

Photo from myspace.com/mieka Boston-born songwriter Mieka Pauley has been doing something that has proven popular among artists these days- she reached out to music-lovers through a fan-funding platform to support her upcoming record The Science of Making Choices . The key to getting people excited about an album, or any creative project, and thus motivated to help make it happen is to keep them involved in the process every step of the way. That's exactly what Pauley has been doing, and so far she's gotten more than what she bargained for in donations. [...]

Lightouts , the Gowanus-duo, dropped their 4th single (and first of 2012) curiously titled "The Cure For Shyness". This track features beautiful melodic rock, intertwined with Lightouts signature 90s punk motif. At first listen, you might hear the likes of Interpol's Paul Banks from the vocals. We highly recommend you let this one marinate. Lightouts is a grower, like hair on a horse (pun entirely intended). For more Lightouts, head on over to their Soundcloud page . Nothing's whispered sweet sweet 19080s like The Golden Pony . Yes, Cut Copy have really gone far to bring some 80s grooves back, but The Golden Pony's Timothy Monkiewicz absolutely explodes with keyboards and synthesizers galore in his latest track. I'm literally having flashbacks of Duran Duran and A-ha as I type this. Touche', Golden Pony. Casio Boy is quite the self-explanatory song. Have a listen for yourself. For more The Golden Pony, check out his Soundcloud page. The Golden Pony - Casio Boy What's the Weekend [...]

Gemini Club made quite a few people happy releasing their single "By Surprise" (from their Here We Sit EP) for free. Sel-classified as indie electronica, the group made up of Tom Gavin Gordon Bramli Daniel Brunelle Andy Heisler, are a bunch of home-grown boys from Chicago. The group has been making their way into the music scene by opening up and supporting the likes of Chromeo , A-Trak , Two Door Cinema Club , Who-Made-Who , Dj Falcon and Chateau Marmont . Solid track here. It's got [...]
The Maccabees have been making waves in the indie (and not so indie) world since the release of their 2012 album Given To The Wild . Not only were the old Wall Of Arms fellas from London rocking our world so early this year already, but they've decided to just say "to hell with it" and booked an upcoming show on MTV. Yup, everyone is talking about these guys already and we're quite proud of how well they've progressed since 2009. The video for The Maccabees' first single, "Into the Wild", features [...]

From a person who absolutely loved Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion , the arrival of Brothertiger 's Golden Years has an eerily similar texture. The project of Ohio-native John Jagos hasn't proven to be as off the wall as the oddly-named foursome of Animal Collective, but the outward reaching, spacey moments capture a bit of the zaniness that's so damn contagious. In anticipation of the March 27 release of Golden Years from Mush Records , Brothertiger used the talents of with Kiki Allgeier and David Ambrose to produce a spandex-friendly video for "Lovers."
