Antony Hegarty's androgynous chamber pop baritone injected an exciting bit of melodrama into 2008's headiest dance record, DFA's self titled Hercules and Love Affair LP, and I find myself wishing of late that the man would embrace those freaky, Boy George-y cabaret roots of his a little more often. When I hear Andrew Bulter state that the new Hercules and Love Affair disk will feature a whole new roster of artists and collaborators, it's hard not recall the milquetoast sophomore releases from similar projects like Handsome Boy Modeling School- so for now, I find middle ground and solace [...]
*Puts fist to cheek and makes exasperated face ala Richard Lewis Boku ad* Boy, this week, AMIRITE? I've got little to write up here, save that there are certain hooks we'll be hearing in remixes and mashes for decades to come, and my man El Grippo has mixed three of them into one convenient package for those of us with musical feeding tubes. Good on you. MGMT vs. Digitalism vs. Hot Chip "Who Many DJs?" (El Grippo Mix) Up in New Roc City playing Nick Carraway most [...]
I've been hearing trade buzz about Asher Roth, the XXL endorsed Pennsylvania DJ Drama protege for months now, but somehow escaped actually hearing any songs of his until this past week- and Jesus man, have you heard that fucking "I Love College" track? A. Ew. B. We don't need another goddamn Shwayze . I'll concede clever use of that Weezer sample (even if Benzi & Diplo's Fear & Loathing in Hunts Vegas beat him to it by about a year), but [...]
Episode one of Mr. Professo r, written & directed by Dave Bluvband and Rob Stern has hit them computrons! Mr. Professor was featured in Dave and Rob's new show Too Many Guns , which debuted this past Monday @ the UCB Theatre. Friendship with these guys aside, it's one of the most promising sketch showcases I've seen in some time, and if it doesn't get a run I'll eat my hat. Featuring Benjamin Ragheb, Anna Rubanova, & Amber Nelson, may you send this along to every corner of the internet you faithful readers you. [...]
Sophie B. Hawkins' Rejected First Drafts of "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" Damn, I Wish I Was Danny Glover Damn, I Wish I This Board Could Hover Damn, I Wish Someone Would Write A Movie Ten Years From Now Called "Undercover Brother" Damn, I Wish I Was A Celebrity So My Love Life Were Easier, But Someone Super Famous, Not Famous Like Tina Yothers Damn, I Wish You Were My Boyfriend, [...]
To begin, sorry for the nothin' all week. Been a little too up on that Tumblr ish, which is worlds easier to maintain than this here as microblogging is largely built around the regurgitation of content. I don't say that as a slight- I adore Tumblr's interface, social functionality, and customization capabilities- it's just that I find myself in the odd position of trying to define what separates am.fm.pm's editorial voice (my own) from... my own voice. On a personal site, I'd talk about the same music and whatnot that I do here, but now that I've set up a [...]
Nice try fellas, but MY Brooklyn indie pop single is gonna have so many Johnny Cash references that the corresponding barbiturate habit is gonna seem as normal as a new haircut. Plushgun 's Pins and Panzers is available now from Tommy Boy . Plushgun "Just Impolite (Jesse No Vocal Mix)"

I feel that as soon Major Lazer's "Hold The Line" hit, the backlash began- like the same dayglo crew that gobbled every Santi electro remix like so much dick was suddenly too cool for a little airhorn and Nina Sky. But that- for me at least- is where the whole Mad Decent op really shines: cranking out artist after artist after jam after jam that don't give a fuck about what 728x90 sneaker ad you have at the top of your blog. It's about the beat. It's about the party. You can't dance and worry about looking cool [...]
Ahh, Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue . The beloved PSA that taught us all that if you steal money and take drugs, all of your favorite cartoon characters will come to life and talk you down. (No joke, I've been looking for a copy of this for AGES.)
Well this is just about my favorite summer joy jam since The Pipettes' "Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me". Keep an ear to ground for Generationals , a highly danceable duo out of New Orleans on tour this summer in support of their debut LP Con Law . Trotting dynamic hi fi pop that's respectful of it's elders but always looking forward, these boys are the the sound of cucumber martinis at dusk; a stiff summer cocktail that recalls a day well spent, yet reminds that the night (and the listener) is young as ever. [...]
The Perks of Being a Wallflower You'll probably get to meet Bob Dylan. Hilarious "One Headlight" bumper sticker. Ever wonder what [...]

Well, shit. In the coming days, weeks, and months, you'll find better tributes to Michael Jackson than anything I can offer here, but here's one for the weekend. 45 minutes, mashed & mixed by Chambaland. Kinda rushed, so I'll pop the tracklist in the comments later. Pan's in Neverland. Stream in the player above, D/L by clicking here .
I've decided that I like Sweden because of the dirty secrets that lie beneath its graceful, streamlined output; like an Ikea escritoire gilded with Nazi gold. Anna Ternheim is an East Village (by way of Sweden) singer-songwriter whose delicate yet severe tone leaves her sounding like a victim only playing hurt as the mechinations of revenge are set in motion against he who has done her wrong. It's been some time since coming across an artist who so deftly balances the pastoral and the direct, and I'm kinda angry that I missed her [...]

In his review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen this week, Roger Ebert calls the film "a horrible experience of unbearable length, briefly punctuated by three or four amusing moments", taking note that "one of these involves a dog-like robot humping the leg of the heroine." I don't doubt that the new Transformers flick is awful, and this makes me sad- not because of the Megan Fox on robot dog slash fic that's bound to be born in the wake of the aforementioned scene, but because God help me, I really liked the first live action [...]
ATTN PR PEEPZ: Lady Gaga is terrible. Do not send us remixes, live versions, etc. Okay, bibbuy.
Ah jeez, how sad is it gonna be when the first one of the Goonies dies and someone gets all choked up at the funeral saying "G-goonies n-n-never s-say..." Now, I'm not the morbid kind of guy to think about that stuff on the reg, but like Greg Laswell's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" cover, it's hard for me not to feel that Cyndi Lauper's original track production has hid something terribly, terribly blunt from me these past 20 years. The Acorn's most recent effort, a Split 12" with countrymen Ohbijou is available now via [...]

Man, fuck this shit. I've lived in Brooklyn for almost a whole month now and I haven't met one lady keyboardist Pee Wee Herman fan. Props to Elocnep . Au Revoir Simone vs. Phoenix "Sad Song From 1901" (Elocnep Edit)

Know who the worst gutter punks in the world are? Train yard gutter punks. They're notorious thieves, they have shit taste in music and drugs, and they've always dragged some poor fucking dog along to take part in their tommyrot quest for Studs Terkel authenticity. Hell, even bus station junkies get to pee inside. Taking am.fm.pm one step closer to being to being renamed lykeelidavidbowieandyeahyeahye ahmashups.com this Monday is our friend ToToM, who over the weekend released the hugely impressive Dylan Mashed LP - 17 tracks of America's down and outest meeting your iTunes library's best and brightest. [...]
So, still no file hosting solution of yet, and I haven't kept up here all week. I'm sitting on an inbox full of top notch jamz, but sloth sloth sloth. I can however, heartily recommend two new sites for cool kids to hit up in the interim: 1. Face it. Berklee Halo parties wear thin plenty quick, and the Weekly Dig stopped being relevant in '04. To help you cope, Tea Party Boston launched this past week, a sharp little guide to music, nightlife, and la new shit happening up 617 way. Site is [...]
