I'm troubled. Deeply troubled. Gavin Hardkiss as God Within has produced some quite brilliant music. Q-Burns Abstract Message produced some lovely offbeat dance music in the 90s and some excellent Balearic remixes more recently. And they're together for a remix. This should be fantastic... but I just don't like it. Worse. It's dull. But I can't quite put my finger on why. Am I missing something? Blurb: After his acclaimed binary star-studded album Technicolor Dreamer and its epic intergalactic remixes, Scott Hardkiss introduces a new collaboration through his God Within label. It's with buzzing [...]

We had a track by Rejuvination (Glenn Gibbons and Jim Moutune) a couple of weeks back. Here's another slab of their 1994 techno on Soma Recordings. This is an uncompromising, pounding piece of techno. It requires strobes and dry ice in a dark club for proper consideration. Rejuvination - Psychophenetic Buy

A vinyl-only label from Detroit specialising in repetitive beats. What's not to like? Classic sounds but a sense that this is divorced from the present and there's nothing that's quite beyond anything you've heard before. First release on the label was Monty Luke - Tomorrow (buy here ). The title track has a gentle old skool feel. Quite Carl Craig. The Next is more synth-based with distorted samples of some mad-sounding futurologist. Final track Yesterday and Today is more dub techno, sounding as if it could equally have been recorded 20 [...]

Claustrophobic dubstep EP from London's Scanone, with free track to download. There's nothing beautiful in Gangsta Riddim's world. This is digital dubstep with everything compressed into a claustrophobic world of numbed hallucination. Lead track Gangsta Riddom IDM sets the mood with its sparse beats and distorted sample. Strings ratchet up the tension and the bass booms in dark corners. Gangsta Riddim (Noel Funcken Remix) is the free download. And it's no more cheerful. The beats are more broken and everything wades through a treacle of bass. Insider is a [...]

New electro house EP from Manu El Chino. Listen only. The original mix of Heady Noise is aimed squarely at the Main Room, with its uplifting beats and gets too close to trance at times for my tastes. The track is also remixed by French producer MiLF, who gives it a darker sheen that works a lot better. Sickcom has a classic progressive house feel in its slow build up and uplifting chords. Rather pleasant. Blurb: Full previews, out on iTunes February 22, 2012 [...]

This means moving from fourteen The 14th Minute posts at Acid Ted, thereby destroying the pleasing synchronicity. But was it worth it? Listen only remix. Download coming later. MRTN is DJ Mrtn (Sthlm Beat) and the drummer Pomp, who have worked together since spring of 2010. Their debut track ' High ' was released in August 2010. This is the 14th Minute remixing their new single Slow . Inevitably, this is a disco pop froth confection. But The 14th Minute manage to make everything so uplifting, I'm happy to forgive their sugary excess. Are you? [...]

A new track from breaks artist Elite Force's album out in March. Listen only for now. Blimey. This kicks like the proverbial. Starting with a sample from 1968 film Charly this sets you up with the cheeriness of " brave new dreams, brave new hates, brave new wars; a beautifully purposeless process of society suicide ." Apparently this sci-fi flick won an oscar but I've never heard of it. But this is all about Elite Force's thrillingly dynamic use of bass to remorselessly batter you onto the dance floor. Terrific. [...]

Thievery Corporation are one of my favourite downtempo artists. The track - Culture of Fear - is the title track from their latest album (free download here ). But in the meantime, electro noise terroist Discoforgia has done a remix for free download. A scary thought. The original track is funkier than usual for Thievery Corporation, resting its dub roots on brass parping and righteous rapping. The remix gives it major electro shock therapy, upping the tempo to an electro breakbeat pace. If The Prodigy covered Thievery Corporation, this [...]

Last apearing here in August, Holobeams & Broken Dreams (Iain Foxwell) is back with a new four track EP if IDM for free download. Ground Frost gives the EP a gentle, if slightly forgettable, start. Portal has a strangled strings feel to its IDM. Tokyo Distortions is a bit like early 80s make up artists Japan in its Eastern plinky plonkiness. Embers of Night is the darkest track with its slow humming bass and ominous sample. Easily the strongest track here. Blurb: Coming off the back of [...]

Not quite as immediate as the Cloudbusting remix, this summery indiediscofunkdub is the sound track to a film about young love at a festival. Or it is in my head. Blurb: Hey all, this is one of the tracks featured on Disco Circus 3 that I'm giving away. Hope you enjoy. See here www.wearemightymouse.com for full details of Disco Circus 3, released 12th March 2012. MMx

An album of heavily 80s inspired synth music from Lazerhawk. This can all feel a bit self-consciously retro at times. And a whole album is quite an ask. But when it has the courage of its convictions, like Space Is The Place , it can still sound thrilling. Lazerhawk - Space Is The Place Listen/Buy whole album here: Blurb: The first Rosso Corsa release of 2012 is here, Visitors by Lazerhawk! Join us on an epic journey through time and space to the disco dimension and beyond! [...]

We had Music For Insomniacs on Sunday which was some previously unreleased material from Astral Engineering. Here's a classic ambient album from Astral Engineering dating back to 1994, the first released on Worm Interface. Now available as free download . http://astralengineering.bandc amp.com/

I'm pretty indifferent to The Whip's stuff. But there is a fine dub remix by 2 Bears. This keeps some of the synths and adds a extra palette of acidic squiggles. Blurb: Available now on Southern Fried Records! Buy on iTunes now: http://tinyurl.com/whipmovemen tiTunes http://www.facebook.com/thewhi p http://www.thewhipband.com Released by: Southern Fried Records Release/catalogue number: ECB301 [...]

This has been out for a little while but I thought it was so good and in case you hadn't already heard. This is lovely electronic synth house, with ascending synths and rock-type drums. Winning combination. There are a range of remixes. The best of these is the Digweed & Muir one. This adds a bit of extra bottom end thump for greater dancefloor depth. Rendezvous - The Murf (Radio Edit) Rendezvous - The Murf (John Digweed & Nick Muir Remix) Blurb: Stay tuned for Rendezvous' upcoming [...]

New tech house from Mexican pairing on 530Techno. Includes free download of Oilpanic remix. The EP's title track is a lovely warm chiming piece of techno, with a smooth pace hardly suited to a dancefloor. Pick of the EP. Hypnose E Thanatos is a delicate synth driven thing, equaly unsuited to the rough boys on the dancefloor. The Oilpanic remix of Hypnose E Thanatos is a bit more angular and truer to the tech house description given to the EP. The Android Cartel remix of the title track is much colder and more digital [...]

Another forthcoming on Vresh. Cheery name The Plague. Should really be some ear bleed death metal. It's almost a disappointment that it's 2 step. Almost. A slightly revved Burial-style dubstep gets a bit of extra 2 step action and some really fabulous bass action from 1.20. Even a vocal can't stop me enjoying this. http://www.vresh.nl/

I like shiny things. Bright things that glitter and tantilise. I am quite shallow. This new listen only future garage track from Booddha is bright and shiny. But it isn't shallow; it's got depth. This new style of garage, with lovely synths and no annoying vocals, really does meet that strain of digital R&B halfway to produce a most winsome offspring. What I'm trying to say, in my roundabout way, is that I like this and think you might too. Out soon on Vresh. http://soundcloud.com/booddha

We had Mojo Filter's new album yesterday. Here's his take on the revered Sabres of Paradise classic Smokebelch II. Free download. Keeps that chiming intro with extra shuffly drums and a bit of whooshing. This wants to be an outer space version. This is comedown music, not arms in the air stuff. This is music for when the evening's all become a bit much and you're legs are starting to seize. You can simply sway or stagger in time to the shuffling beats. http://soundcloud.com/thebenz
Astral Engineering was Simon Rees, who produced some lovely ambient back in the mid-90s (more from previous posts here ). He's left a comment to say that he's making available on Bandcamp an album's worth of material which was never released in full. Some were released on Worm Interface. It's available for free download . If you like classic 90s ambient there are some gems in here for you. The album starts off with his classic track Drifting , which does exactly what it says on the tin. And it does it quite beautifully. This [...]

You might remember we had Mojo Filter's remix of Time & Space Machine back here . He's got a new album, of edits of classic tracks out next month, which apparently is Mixmag album of the month. Free track to download. The template for this is Pocketknife and Cousin Coles Tambourine Dream ( here ) which took Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen to the nu-indiedisco back in 2008. That's a tough act to follow. Those remixed this time run from Cowboy Junkies to Bert Jansch to Neil Young and Johnny Cash. Cowboy Junkies version of [...]
