Here's a lovely tech house track with driving piano refrain in the remix from Pele & Shawnecy for Namito & Rummy Sharma. Out this week, the track has a bit of the jazz house stylings of St Germain's Rose Rouge in the use of the piano refrain. But it has a much more insistent air from the chunky beats that line up behind it. Stylish. Blurb: And again a true international masterpiece on Martin Eyerer & Rainer Weichhold's label: Iranian maestro Namito joins forces with his close friend Rummy Sharma from Dehli (India) [...]

Always up for a bit of something from the wonderful Soundhog. A Kraftwerk cover to see me off to bed sounds just fine. Free download. Ben explains " Ok, so a fairly straight Kraftwerk cover isn't the most interesting thing to do in 2013, I agree. However there is a good reason for it. Some friends of mine up in Scotland put on a night where people were playing 'werk tracks totally live, which was set up as a response to a similar event in Cardiff, which was set up as a 'consolation' to the 99.99999% of fans who didn't [...]

A new tune from Ireland's GEM_DOS, who first appeared here last September. This is downtempo electronic soul. GEM_DOS says " I came up with the beat, bass and keys on this relatively quickly. The vocals are one female vocal line pitch shifted and then contorted a number of ways in the Octatrack ." This is quite a melancholy track. Quite experimental. Everything feels in minor keys, with the basso pitch shifted vocal adding to the other-worldliness. Good but not your usual.

A new release from Acid Ted favourite Marshall Watson. His tastes range far and wide, from D&B and ambient, now encompassing trap. The latter is where this EP pitches itself. The Whole Stwp has a pitched up electronica trap feel but with some hefty sub-bass lodged far into the background. Fern is a much more frondy ambient tune but with an ongoing twitchiness. Sweat Bones is the nearest to a conventional track, sitting somewhere between house, garage and trap. I'm not too sure about this new venture.

Lane 8 is back with his special brand of downtempo house. Following on from Gladys Knight and Diana Ross , this one uses Tracey Chapman as the main vocal sample. Apparently, it contains samples from Snowden and Depeche Mode but I can't say I could spot particularly them. This is some run Lane 8 is on, as this is another great track. Free download. 'Sleepless' contains samples from: Tracy Chapman - Behind The Wall Snowden - So Red Depeche Mode [...]

Here's something very leftfield on Germany's Fjellsmug Rekords. This is fragile acoustic indie of the Kings of Convenience vein mixed with some tech house. All softly strummed guitars and awkward indie boy vocals to start with, before a twangy tech house base and Teutonic beats come to take over. Free download (name your price). Track from our "Cologne" E.P. released via Fjellsmug Rekords. Grab your download or a beautiful handmade CD version of the release here: fjellsmug.bandcamp.com/album/c ologne fjellsmug.com/releases/cologne [...]

Tech house is one of the most difficult dance genres for me. The difference between something good and something dull is pretty fine. This track by the previously-unknown-to-me Rodriguez Jr from his new Back To Back vol7 comp is most certainly on the good side. It's a cracking finger-clicking beats track with a good and dirty bass line, even the vocal doesn't make me like it less. Sophisticated stuff. Free download. Buy: http://www.beatport.com/#relea se/mobilee-back-to-back-vol-7- presented-by-rodriguez-jr/1063 409 Blurb: After his first album, 'Bittersweet' came out on mobilee in 2011, Rodriguez Jr. became the [...]

Sadly, not a cover version of the Lionel Richie classic, but a deep house tune with a really New York house flavour. Free download. Thando is Thando Beschta, a dj/producer from New York. This track has some classic piano stabs but done as synth sounds in the New York disco way. But the beats are more deep house, even a little trap. And the vocal's like a rap sample but slowed right down. Has that late night glitter of the streets feel.

Dance music isn't often terribly thoughtful and much that wants to be thoughtful is simply portentious. Here's something from Northampton that goes for thoughtful and hits the target. Hardly what you'd expect from Northampton. Music aimed very much at contemplation and mulling the meaning of life. The key to this EP is the first track - Attention Trap . This has a great vocal sample (with one of those rich North American voices) which really grabs the attention. It is set against some bassy, but slightly melancholic, electronics. Quite early Warp in style and very good. Persona1600 says " [...]

A cover version of a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers track Learning To Fly (who? They iz long-haired rock, no?). Also, this is a kinda pointless review, since Tony Masud from Sweden got there before me, when he said " don't know the original. really not interested into knowing it either. this however is brilliant. love the acid ."

To end the bank holiday with a bang, here's a new breaks tune from Slighter. This one's so new, it isn't coming out until July. It's one that drives itself round a deep deep bass line. Not for the faint hearted. Great stuff. Here's a fresh one right out of the studio! New remix for @ Retroid 's Ego Shot Recordings ! Release set for July, enjoy this clip in the meantime! slightermusic.com facebook.com/slightermusic twitter.com/slighter

Techno from the offspring of techno royalty. Yup, Dantiez Saunderson is son of Kevin Saunderson , one of the three originators of Detroit techno. The boy has a new EP out this week with White Chocolate (Kevin Castro). The tune Logarythm (the maths thing for which we had tables at school before computers - for all the children out there - to calculate... ummm... something) is a tech house / techno tune. This is aimed directly at a dance floor. Not home listening. This is music for flashing strobes and green lasers. It's a real [...]
A new dub techno release from Manu Weber, who I've been a fan of and posting about for a while. But before we get to the release, an EXCLUSIVE interview. 1. You're from Freiburg. What is it like as somewhere to live and is it good for a musician? Yes, I come from Freiburg in southern Germany. We live in middle of beautiful countryside. It maybe a small town, but we have a good quality of life. I am very connected to my home; all my friends and my family [...]

A tune that reminds me of trip hop. A late Sunday kind of tune. It's interesting downtempo electronics from Ben Hayes with a really classy vocal from Naomi Banks. Her voice is somewhere between Nicolette and Lily Allen. The effect is a bit Sneaker Pimps , if that isn't too much like damning with faint praise. Naomi Banks - vocals Rob Small - mastering http://facebook.com/benhayesmu sic http://quitealrightrecords.com / Released by: Quite Alright Records Release/catalogue [...]

It's a nice day, sun's out, they're having a barbeque next door, so let's give them some nu disco to help the party go with a swing. Never heard of Kitt Bang or Enne before. But I did like their funky approach to things. This is one of those chuck-everything-together-in-a -blender tunes that really works. There's a real sense of abandon to it. Blurb: Young gun Kitt Bang became a famous Munich resident DJ over the past ten years, most notably for his sets at Zombocombo freak-theater. The old dog Enne has spun and produced records for [...]

If Sundays are for relaxing with something different, here's something different on Gergaz Netlabel. Some space jazz from JayLotus. Not exactly my usual. But this has enough synth laidbackness to be worth your time. Free download (name your price). Here's For Yuki from the four track EP. The smooth use of synths gets offset by Herbie Hancock style crispy beats and a little light noodling. Full EP for download here: Blurb: JayLotus born Philippe Edison is an electronic artist from Houston, Texas. who initially started his musical journey as a [...]

Something summery and spacey, even though it's cold and blustery. A bit of house on Paper Recordings (who are on fire at the moment) from Space Coast. This remix ain't bad either Blurb: Sleazy McQueen & Jorge Collazo's are back as Space Coast to release their debut EP for Paper. With Aqua Tongue sounding like a lost classic and Just Past Midnight hitting all the nu disco buttons plus a fat package of remixes, it hits every button on the analogue rave machine!

Here's a really cool grooving tech house tune in the form of a Scheibe & Waslewski remix for Matt Keyl on Gold Rcrds. The original has a nice groove but doesn't quite develop into something. Sort of lacks a hook. The remix, on the other hand, has an almost jazz feel to its approach to tech house. Finger-snapping cool. The rest of the EP's here: Blurb: Big luck for Rainer Weichhold to discover such an amazing new talent from Triest in Italy. Matt Keyl convinced quickly with his sophisticated beat constructions and driving [...]

Got burgled yesterday, which is a bit rubbish. Computer's gone, so's much of my tuneage with it. Luckily, I think the photos on the computer were backed up. Anyhow, in an effort to cheer myself up, I'm going for something uplifting and synthy. Here's a bootleg from Ali Jamieson that locates itself firmly in the forget-all-your-troubles-and-d ance section. File under Moroder. For today, that'll do just fine. Blurb: This started when I helped record an acoustic cover of the M83 track for my pal Daryl Bär . I ended up doing an eighties power [...]
