By request: A very long time ago we had tracks from Aon (or A-on) from a promo CD. Scraping the barrel (aka falling across this accidentally), I find I had a 12″ of theirs with remixes by Sub Sub from 1993. Aon were a bit New Age-y, as witnessed by this from their CD: “The sound of A-on is timeless and global, deriving from ancient traditions and touching deep into the soul. The meoldies are intrinsically simple and pure, [...]

Lovely new house EP from Leav, out now. This is the fourth full release from Swdeden's Leav (Jonas Isaksson). There's something about the onset of spring/summer in the feel of this EP. Like a sashaying catwalk of an EP for a S/S13 collection. Opener Bask is a sprightly thing that gambols around like a new tech house lamb. Attack is nothing of the sort. It's the hazy heat of the summer sun and laying back to enjoy the deep house grooves. Scent is a brilliant bit of techno/tech house. Only closer, [...]

Normally, I'd say you should listen to these tracks by Horrorfall cos they're good. And, they are - but this time, I'm saying you should buy these with real money, on the basis that if you do so before the end of the weekend you'll help the victims of the Boston bombling and others. Colin C (leader of Horrorfall) says " It's a "pay-what-you-want" release on Bandcamp, and right now to help the victims of the Boston Bombing, I'm donating 100% of any money from it from now until the end of the weekend to the American Red Cross… [...]

Ah, cover versions. Love a good cover version me. Here's one from synth duo I Am Camera. It's a version of the Pet Shop Boys' 1987 hit Rent . Goes for a wistful tone akin to the original but with a doomier, more portentious, air. Nice but doesn't meet the visceral charge of the Carter USM version from the B Side to their 1990 single Rubbish . Both below, including a free live version by Carter. Carter USM live free download (though if you do pay, all money goes to charity - The National Autistic Society) [...]

Quality dub techno for you to enjoy. This is out at the end of the month but there's only clips. To make up for it a Frank Hellmond chilled number for free download. When we had some of Frank Hellmond's dub techno before , I commented on the similarity to Matthias Springer's work. It therefore comes as no real surprise to find the two Germans working together. Their Wooden Cross EP is out on 24 April. There are two tracks and three remixes. In Mind is a classic dub techno track, with warm washes of [...]

Another long mix, after yesterday's from Jamie Harley. A conceptual cracker from Max Cooper for Magnetic magazine . Includes an unreleased Max Cooper track. Max Cooper says: The brief for this mix was to make something inspired by an architectural space. When I was doing my Post-Doc at UCL I used to go the British Museum to relax, and work in the beautiful library there, so I chose the space for the mix. I wanted to capture the ambient atmosphere in the central courtyard, so I did some binaural recording to [...]

We had the new release yesterday from Joe C on Ground Level. Today, here's a couple of freebies for you from Gound Level. First, a free track from Joe C. This is his bootleg of Bones & Nom De Strip - Shake & Bake . This is whoop, whoop bass. A bit too ghetto bass for my tastes, but perhaps not yours. [Alternate Download Link]: http://www.mediafire.com/?v5no 1cuz677dgzx Second, a free downloadable mixtape from Ground Level Supremo Andy McAllister for the National Union of Students. Free mixes! Never had that [...]

Debut EP from Brighton-based Somatic (Tom Lycett). There's a mixture of dubstep and drum and bass. The drum and bass tunes are quality and the stronger of the two genres. Two tracks to listen - one a free download - but first, he's done Ted's Top Ten quiz. 1) Goldie or Burial? I prefer Burial. Even though D'n'B is where my love for dance music began, as the genre has changed so have my influences. A big fan of Burial's production skills and atmospheres. 2) Real Instruments [...]

Big fat B Boy breaks 'n' bass to start your day. Expect speakers to explode. Joe C is a Dallas, Texas based DJ/Producer, who last appeared here in November with his Shakedown EP . He's got a new Black Ink EP out this week, again on Ground Level Records. These are - as the young people would say - solid bangers. Charlie Horse goes for that B Boy rock god vibe. Everything's ready to jump start the party. Best track on the EP. Downtown City breaks out the 808s [...]

I rather like words. Especially English's capacity for multiple words meaning almost the same thing and the way it absorbs/morphs other cultures and innovation, over time. Today's word is diacritic. As in 'diacritic music'. Which is used in the content of this mix by Amon Tobin soundman Jamie Harley. Diacritic comes from the Greek. adj. 1. Diacritical. 2. Medicine Diagnostic or distinctive. n. [...]

A couple of releases for you from Sheffield label Blue Panda Records. A new label set up by Lee Wraith and Ben Harding which they describe as " an outlet for Good House Music ". Here's a couple of things to get your teeth into. Revolt is Arno Asmus from the Netherlands. His Harbor Sessions release came out at the end of last month. This is a really nice slow rolling track. Not your usual dance floor tempo but a great early on in the night track. Throbbing deep house goodness. Buy: http://www.beatport.com/track/ harbor-sessions-original-mix/4 216270 [...]

Here's something gentle from LA's Quixoticism to end this Sunday. This track is a mix of synths and vocals as music, with a deep beat that slows your heart. A bit IDM R&B but still rather fine. Free download. download album: quixotism.bandcamp.com/album/e rrant

Here's something gentle for a Sunday morning. Tideup are US duo who make experimental pop. There's more than a hint of the Cocteau Twins about this. Free download. Tiedup are Ben and Noelle from Orlando, Florida. They make experimental pop and claim to like " nice people, good food and great music ". To test that assertion I've asked for a recipe. They've gone for Eggplant Parmesan (they mean Melanzane alla Parmigiana). Got to admit, it's not a bad choice if someone else is making. A bit of a faff if you have to do it yourself. Here's [...]

Japanese artist Takuya Kashiwada's album Wear The God, Execute It gets remixed. A couple selected from those for your listening pleasure. Both are 3am tracks, so expect techno. Out on 1 May. First, Syphon (Parity Records' owner) takes a turn. His remix is one of those tracks that gradually winds itself up in a clattering that eventually allows the rolling beats through. But it's going to make you wait for the break until you beg. Relief doesn't comes until way after 2 mins when the chiming synth comes in. Clever mix. JAK provides [...]

Dammit this is good. Has a bass line to die for. Or, at least, one that would have had D running to bury her head in the bass bin BITD. This is 'out soon' whatever that means. Lucien Reden is a techno producer who appeared here before with his remix of Acid Ted favourite, Rave On Kids . This time, he's remixed Flatpack Jesus' Bunny Eggs . The original track is actually rather good. It's a rocky breakbeatesque, slightly industrial, neo-big beat track that comes on like early Chems spliced with The Prodigy. Big, fat [...]

Here's a new one from kORBian, following his excellent moved (every) time from a couple of weeks back . Another free download but much more on a deep house / garage tip. Starts very deep house with that cute little organ line, before the beats come on in a slightly fractured garage style. Another warm track for cold nights but perhaps not quite as immediately luxuriant and engaging as previously. Blurb: a short stab of a deep house groove that carries an early garage vibe in the warmth of the organ in [...]

No. Not a porn film. A rather fine deep house mixtape - Deepsessions - from Kav Verhouzer, who was part of the trio that did the excellent Jazz house of Lentedag a few weeks back . Free download. The 45 min mixtape includes three Verhouzer tracks, including Lentedag . It's not a proper techno tape as such. It has elements of deep house and garage. But overall, it has a funky house sheen to it to keep the feet moving. Andhim - AleeFee (Original Mix) Kav Verhouzer, [...]

Shpongle are one of those artists who've been around for ages, since at least the mid-90s, but never really made any impact on me. They were too far towards the crusty hippy end of dance for me. Too far the other side of Megadog , too Goa. I didn't know they were still going, so to find and like this track was a real surprise. This wouldn't have looked out of place on Hardkiss' seminal Delusions of Grandeur . The track is psychedelic, rather inevitably, but it has a fabulous guitar line to make the [...]

Here's something a bit different; mid-west techno. They may have made the genre up but this is a really interesting EP. The EP is released on Mesa Recordings who also provide the home for D Numbers , with whom D is so taken. This is quite an experimental EP and, despite what the blurb would have you believe, this is is home rather than club music. There are beats but there's also finger clicks and acoustic guitar. Bartholemew, The Little Troll has beats sampled from guitar stops and a very IDM standpoint. There's some melody from [...]
I've rather gone off my fascination with synth music as the stuff I hear has moved from the Moroder/Kraftwork influences into more 70s disco territory. No doubt to D's relief. But this tune from Rendezvous (Israelis Itai Simon and Hagai Izenberg) I do like. They have form, producing the rather fine The Murf last year. This track, from their new album, has an Eastern exotic feel allied to a thrumming bass and the more contemporary sounds of Daft Punk or Air. And it's a free download. Blurb: Another Round Please nods its hat to [...]
