Officially, "The Bowl welcomes the longed-for return of post-punk messiahs Pavement for an amazing show of rock royalty that also includes the iconic and experimental sounds of Sonic Youth and heirs to the lo-fi throne No Age." Damn. Heirs to the lo-fi throne? No Age must be pretty stoked. Seriously, and I say this with love, who the fuck cares about No Age when PAVEMENT AND SONIC YOUTH ARE PLAYING TOGETHER? I sure don't. Um, count me in. And by "count me in" I actually meant to say "Please buy me tickets so I can go [...]

I find it rather fitting that this is basically the only thing you'll find on any link that has to do with the upcoming Brian Eno Warp release. Anybody have high hopes for this one?

Last night I discovered that I have three very different and totally awesome versions of The Beatles' harmonica-pop gem from A Hard Day's Night - "I Should Have Known Better." It should go without saying that version 1 is, of course, the original. Version 2 is a great duet, by She & Him, who will be performing at the 2010 Lou Fest on August 29th in St. Louis. M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel alternate vocal lines over a laid-back, galloping beat with Hawaiian-inspired guitar slides. Totally different take on a classic track. [...]

I've been a little slow on the blog this summer, with good reason - dog, new job, no money, etc - but I figure it's kind of my duty to kick you guys down with the details for this year's FYF Fest, since I've done it pretty much every year.... The lineup was announced a week or 2 ago and includes some pretty awesome shit that we've written about in the past.... For starters, fucking UNBROKEN is on this years FYF lineup. Yeah, and I do mean the Life Love Regret [...]

Are we really here? Is this really happening? When we say that we never thought this day would come, we REALLY mean it. The rumor of a new Three Mile Pilot album has been circulating for over a decade, further fueling the mystery and mythology that has swirled around the San Diego trio since the 1997 release of what was thought to be their swan song, the enormously influential Another Desert, Another Sea. The new release is called The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgotten and it's the first Three Mile Pilot album in 13 years. [...]

If you know Curtis Jenkins, you should know he LOVES baile funk. Baile Funk, also called funk carioca, is a Brazilian dance music that originated in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro and is heavily influenced by 1980s Miami Bass music (like 2 Live Crew!) This is some serious party music, where thousands of young people gather together every weekend to shake their asses. Here's a clip from Diplo's documentary Favela On Blast , a GREAT introduction to Rio's baile funk counter-culture. Check the links that follow for more clips: [...]

That's right ladies and gentlemen, weapon favorites Belle and Sebastian (who we never write about cause there's never anything new to say about them) will be in the area for a show at the palladium on October 3rd. STOKED! I've seen them three times - once the night before my senior year in high school at the Wiltern with a chamber orchestra ( care for a bootleg? ), once at Coachella in 2004 , and once at the Hollywood Bowl on my birthday with the LA Phil . If you weren't interested before, click on all [...]

If you are looking for an option for satellite TV service, one of the most important things for you to consider is the price. There are other factors involved, like if you live in an apt are you allowed to add a dish to the roof? Are there cheaper options in your area? Personally, I'm a little miffed because my landlord won't let me put another dish on the roof and I already owe charter about 400 bucks because one day I just decided to stop paying them and now I'm out of work. What's considered inexpensive satellite TV? I'm [...]

Have you ever been looking for a band t that you couldn't find, and figured you'd probably just have to make it cause you'll never find it? Cafepress.com probably has what you're looking for. In addition to a whole bunch of really funny tshirts , they also have some cool band tshirts (not just the ones that say "I'm with the band" or something lame like that) and your favorite music tshirts , too. It seems fictional bands may have just as many fans in the real world as Fictional sports teams [...]

These days you can do most things online. You can pay your bills, you can do your grocery shopping, and you can even find a job without ever leaving your house or even speaking to a single soul. I was born and finished my study in a hick town in Iowa. I tried looking for a job in the city cause that's where I live, and shit was tough, man. I mean, I have fast access to everything and everyone EXCEPT for fast access to cash. There are tons of cable providers and ways to get cheaper cable, but the best one that includes HD and DVR is either Time Warner Cable or Dish Network . What's a DVR? A DVR is an enhanced Digital Cable set-top box that uses [...]

When the craziness about the economy happened last year, I had to tighten my belt across the board. I cut my home phone and cable sports to save a few bucks. I lowered my cell phone subscription to a manageable amount because we were all thinking that we're going to lose our jobs. We didn't, but I did just recently quit mine, so I'm pretty stoked that I can still get Cox cable sports for a good price via MyTVOptions. With my TV Options I was able to get the NFL Sunday Ticket and [...]

Last week, Rock The Bells 2010 announced the addition of Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, and Lauryn Hill just days before tickets were to go on sale. Pretty slick move if you ask me. But it gets better - Snoop Dogg will perform the entirety of his debut album Doggystyle - do you have any idea how much that rules? Tribe will perform Midnight Marauders , and to top it off there will be a very special performance from Lauryn Hill. LAURYN HILL! Right?? The three legends were added to an already star-studded lineup [...]

SoKo (born Stéphanie Sokolinski) is a French singer and actress, best known for the track 'I'll Kill Her'. In 2007, SoKo achieved a hit single in Denmark with the song after The Black Boy Scouts began to promote it. The song reached number one on Danish radio charts as well as in the Danish iTunes Store. In Australia it placed number nine in the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2007 music poll. The Danish and the Aussies must have WAY better taste in music than we do, because in 2007 the top song out the US iTunes chart was [...]

I'm pretty into Soul and R&B, like, the popular kind - not just the old stuff. I dig it so much that sometimes my friends don't even get it so I've stopped mentioning it. I guess you could say it's a guilty pleasure of mine, like how c4 really likes NOFX and would probably pick Punk In Drublic if she could only listen to one record for the rest of her life. But truthfully, I really don't feel very guilty about it at all. What's it to anybody else if I like pop, right? Enter Alicia Keys. She [...]

I'm not really a fan of most hip-hop or urban soul. There, I said it. And it's not really cause I don't like it as much as it's the sheer fact that a lot of it just isn't very interesting. It sounds the same, or it's too self-assuming, or it just doesn't strike me, which is why I really dig this chick's sound. CILLA K. is a vocalist, beat maker and songwriter based in New York, and she's a fucking good one. The only thing that my [extremely limited] knowledge of this style of music brings to mind [...]

Let me just preface by saying it's late and I'm tired - I do dig the new Melvins track (see below) but haven't gotten my hands on a copy of the new album so I can't really say much about it, except for the name is super cheesey and I hate it. C'mon, really? The Bride Screamed Murder ? Hopefully the tunes will cancel out the album name. Anyway, dig some words on the subject (my favorite of which is 'soul-crushing') that didn't come from my fingertips: Seattle sludge masters Melvins [...]
