After releasing their first single on a vinyl made from actual ice , Swedish indie-pop greats Shout Out Louds have dropped a new track, "Walking In Your Footsteps" and it's another strikingly infectious song, this time with a nice dose of flute. Optica is out 2/26 on Merge Records
French directing crew Megaforce (the guys behind that the awesome “The Greeks” video a couple years back) helm the the first great music video of 2013 for Dizzee Rascal ’s new single “Bassline Junkie” (via seenyourvideo.com )

If you're looking for this year's breakout artist look no further than British electro-pop duo, AlunaGeorge . They already made a splash last year with the single "Your Drums, Your Love" (along with it's brilliant music video ) and they're well on their way to blowing up in 2013 with today's premiere of the title track to their new LP, Body Music and a cover of last year's #1 breakout artist, Frank Ocean on BBC's Live Lounge . Body Music is out this June on Island Records.

Local Natives made one of the best debuts of the last few years with Gorilla Manor and their upcoming sophomore album, Hummingbird , is shaping up to be just as great. "Heavy Feet" is the brilliant second track released from the new album and you can definitely feel the influence of Aaron Dressner (of The National )'s production, especially in the thunderous drumming. Hummingbird will be out 1/29 on Frenchkiss Records .

While I'm not as big on Beach Fossils as I am on their side-project DIIV , I can't deny that this track is a major jam. Jangle-pop bliss. Clash the Truth will be available February 19th, on Captured Tracks .

Toronto electronica maestro Digits continues his streak of incredible singles with minimalistic synth-pop gem "Love Is Only Affection", the title track for his upcoming EP. Watch the video here and listen to more at Digit's website .
I started Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good on a whim back in 2005, based on a crazy idea to merge my love for the cult comedy Zoolander and my budding interest in indie rock music. At the time, I didn't expect any more than a handful of people would care to read it, much less that I'd be still be writing seven years later. A lot has changed since then, I now have a full-time web content managing job, I got married in 2008 and we just learned that we have a [...]
Ryan Gosling's new film with Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) looks amazing. One of best trailers I've seen in recent memory.
Foxygen are a gloriously weird psych-pop band from L.A. and their addicting album We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic is an early entry into the best debuts of 2013 category. Listen to the trippy, sun-drenched first single, "Shuggie" and get the album on 1/22 via Jagjaguwar Records .

We’re quickly approaching the end of 2012 and/or the world depending on your interpretation of Mayan prophecy, and that can only mean it’s time to reflect on the best albums of the year. (source: musicforants.com )

(photo by cubagallery ) We're quickly approaching the end of 2012 and/or the world depending on your interpretation of Mayan prophecy, and that can only mean it's time to reflect on the best albums of the year. For me, one record stood head and shoulders above the rest in 2012, so album of the year was an easy decision, but there was much deliberation for the other 24 positions (plus, honorable mentions). This was one of the most diverse years of music in recent memory, with pop, guitar-oriented rock, folk music, indie-pop and electronica all being represented [...]

Portland's STRFKR has unveiled their latest electro-party-jam, "Leave It All Behind", filled with bombastic beats and synth-heavy layers. The band's new LP Miracle Mile is coming out in February on Polyvinyl Records .

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that delighted, inspired and fascinated us in 2012 and that we think are worthy of remembering long after the year is over. We present them here in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, we've stuck with the one song per artist rule. Click here to download all the tracks in a zip and subscribe to our Spotify Playlist to stream them all. Enjoy y'all! [...]
