Just had
To share this song. I had never heard it until my lass showed it me a few days ago. I havn't been able to stop listening since. I know I use the word beautiful far too much but come on...have a listen and I challenge you to think of a better word? Sia - Breathe Me (Hypem)
STOP PRESS
Yes I have only just checked NME and I have only seconds ago said Arctics are returning to the studio. But this is much more exciting. nme article Yes, that is right, a fourth album from the Strokes is on the cards. Now all I need is for them to announce that they will be embarking on an international tour =] The Strokes - Under Control (Hypem)
What I Wrote
About Arctic Monkeys reportedly releasing an album by the end of the year might not be true, but they are planning to get back in the studio this summer You can read the full article on nme.com Arctic Monkeys - Diamonds are Forever (Shirley Bassey) live at Glasto (Hypem)
Pork And Beans
I only heard this a couple of days ago and I thought I would give it some time to grow on me. It has. My favorite bit has to be the Timbaland namecheck. This is a class song. Weezer - Pork and Beans Hypem
The Live Post
I don't post enough live music on here, but it's about to change with this post. On the Hype Machine whenever searching an artist you are likely to come across some live versions of their songs so here is a tasty selection. Regina Spektor - Fidelity (Live in California) (Hypem) This was the first song I ever heard from her and from the first time I heard it, it instantly captured me. This is the song everyone has heard from her and I urge [...]
French Kicks
A while back when I reviewed the Top Ten on elbo.ws I came across French Kicks with the song Abandon. It became one of those songs which I just couldn't get enough of and all the songs I could listen to by them were listened to. They were all decent too. It's been about a month since all the hype about them and they do now have an album out which was released on April 1st. I don't quite know who to compare them too. They have been around for absoloutely ages according to their discography [...]
Emmy the Great
I have been meaning to blog Emmy the Great for a while now, but it just kept slipping my mind. She provided the backing vocals on Lightspeed Champion's "...Lavender Bridge" and she makes songs which are either uplifting or really sad depending on what mood your in. I love it all. And there are two free downloads on www.myspace.com/emmythegreat which you would be silly to miss out on and she is appearing at this year's Truck Festival in Oxfordshire. Emmy The Great - Secret Circus (Hypem) Emmy The Great - Where [...]
Ted Baker Playlist
As stressful as Ted Baker can be at times and for such a boring range of clothes, the music isn't actually that bad. In fact I think it's quite good. See what you think, here is a selection of music from the place I work at eight hours a week. The Libertines - Up the Bracket (Hypem) Little Man Tate - European Lover (Hypem) Squeeze - Cool for Cats (Hypem) The Jam - Going Underground (Hypem) The Mystery Jets - Diamonds in the Dark [...]
Hallelujah
You all know this song. First Time i ever heard Leonard Cohen's Halleluja was during Shrek. I was young, Shrek and Fiona had fallen out and it was really very touching. Since then I came to learn that this version was Jeff Buckley's, better than the original? The way he takes it as if it were his own song and you can almost feel his pain during it is quite special, and I have managed to find two other covers for you. Neither as beautiful but nevertheless they do it justice. If you are interested, it seems [...]
The most
Beautiful song I'v ever heard? When I first bought "Begin To Hope" by Regina Spektor it seemed that Samson was a serious contender for this title and I'm not going to lie, many times I can listen to that song and be somewhere else for 3 minutes as it really is something amazing. However, you are missing out if you think that it is at it's best on that album. In 2002 she released an album called "Songs" which first features Samson. The album was produced by herself and features just a piano and her [...]
Covering Elton
I don't think Mike Skinner would be the first person that would come to mind. And I know it's been out there for a while but forgive me that I didn't pick up the "40 Years of Radio One" CD. I only just heard the cover after seeing if there was anything new on Myspace. His voice isn't great. In fact it's terrible. But there is something about it that does genuinly work. And I completely adore Mike Skinner so that might have something to do with it. I was reading his plans [...]
Midfield General
I only got the urge to do a profile on him (Damian Harris) after seeing him on Soccer AM this morning becuase until then I had forgotton he was responsible for the tunnnnnne, that is Disco Sirens. It screams Justice. And thats understandable because he produced it. I think you will agree it is a dirrrrrrrrrrrty tune. His album is out in two weeks. I wouldn't go out and buy it, but I'm looking forward to hearing snippets and remixes courtesy of the bloggers from The Hype Machine. Midfield General - Disco Sirens [...]
Anticipation
Has a habit to set you up. Sang one half of The Last Shadow Puppets. And yes that was a cheesy terrible piece of wrting there. However, I don't think we will be set up; becuase after now hearing three of the tracks of "The Age of the Understatement" I can safely say that the album is going to be "summat" (again terrible) brilliant. Here is a taster of what is to come. This is a David Bowie cover and I absolutely love it. I don't think it will feature on the album but [...]
