[ Teenage Wildlife by Cecily Brown] Doing things a little differently this time. First: Posting. Now that's a new concept around here. Second: Decided to do a theme post. The theme is Cecily Brown. And more specifically Teenage Wildlife. Iron & Wine: The Sea and the Rhythm [zshare] This was the first song that came to mind. Sad that I didn't discover it till late last year. With lines like "Our hands they seek the end of afternoons" and [...]

...And that's as high up at the top that a brother can get So, this post has inadvertently turned into The Roots post, but I've still got a few random goodies to throw in. For those of you that don't know, that picture (cover of The Tipping Point) is Black Thought recreating this mugshot of Malcolm Little before he became Malcolm X. In my mind, that's brilliant album art. On to the music... The Roots - Please Don't Go [...]
Nigerian Coat of Arms Soulbrotha just hit me up with this new track from him and Rukus. As you might be able to guess, the hook samples A Milli, but despite my hatred for that song this beat is nice and the track overall is pretty dope. Check it out... Rukus ft. Soulbrotha - I'm Nigerian [sharebee mp3] Previously: Soulbrotha [...]
What a beautiful, refreshing music video. Enjoy. Oren Lavie: Her Morning Elegance [zshare]

That guy ^ is President. Bush is gone. What more can I say? Curtis Mayfield - We're A Winner [zshare] Curtis Mayfield - People Get Ready [zshare] Young Jeezy - My President ft. Nas [zshare] Common - The People [zshare] T.I. - Sittin On Top of the World ft. B.o.B. and Ludacris [zshare] B.o.B. - I'll Be In the Sky [zshare] The Roots - [...]

[Movie still from Fallen Angel ] Wow. It's been a while since I've posted something. So I've decided to go all out before I leave the country for 5months... and forget all about Chicago/Madison/-7°F weather... by posting more songs today than I have since the creation of this blog. It took me a while to decide how to arrange the following tracks. I hate genres. Well, I hate putting music in categories [I'm just bad at it]. Brian [that other guy that's been, more or less, picking up the slack on i8] suggested [...]

Big shout out to Soulbrotha, if it wasn't for him I would've been twittering into empty space during the NFC Championship game. Soulbrotha is a rapper from Houston who makes some pretty good music. As his twitter bio says, he's the best rapper you've never heard of. To show my appreciation to the man for some good football talk today, and because this song is so fitting, I'm gonna help raise awareness. Soulbrotha - Twittersong [zshare mp3] Follow Soulbrotha on Twitter Follow [...]

So, this post is the first of hopefully multiple posts in a new format I'm trying. I'm tentatively calling it "Music ADD" and it works like free association with words. Essentially, I was listening to a song, and it reminded me of another song, so I listened to that, and it reminded me of a third song, and now I'm bringing all three of those songs to you. First, I was listening to the So True EP by Inverse (review coming soon hopefully) and I got to the song "Spark My Soul." I'm not sure [...]

It's been a while since people have been excited about Mos Def (at least as far as new music goes) – but he is back for real. These two tracks from his upcoming album The Ecstatic are vintage Mos at his best. I personally prefer Life In Marvelous Times but Quiet Dog is still an ill track. Mos Def - Quiet Dog [zshare mp3] – 3 Stars Mos Def - Life In Marvelous Times [zshare mp3] – 3.5 Stars Bonus: Mos Def [...]

Tanya Morgan is (my new favorite) rap group, as my purchase of their album Sunset... the EP. I had heard this song before on the Tanya Morgan is a Rap Group mixtape , but they put an extended version of it on the EP. However, the extended version is really just the song twice over, with it being a different (earlier/demo) version the second time. Regardless, rarely would I stick around to listen to the same song twice in a row but this song is too good to skip after the first version plays. Pretty [...]

From this post forward I'm gonna try to be a little more focused with the posts, but still throw in those bonus joints for good measure. This post is about Camp Lo... Camp Lo - "Coolie High (demo)" mp3 (zshare) Camp Lo - "Coolie High" mp3 (zshare) Camp Lo - "Black Connection" mp3 (zshare) Camp Lo - "Black Nostaljack (A.K.A. Come On)" mp3 (zshare) It's rainin' Alize [...]

As of 6/24/08 the Beewry muxtape is in full effect with some new shit and some old. Zip file coming soon, but until then take a listen and enjoy Tracklist

Charles Hamilton - Just A Musician [mp3] New kid Charles Hamilton killin it on Lil Wayne's "A Millie" beat, I still don't like the beat that much but Charles Hamilton is infinitely better on it than Weezy... F... and at least he makes sense bonus: Charles Hamilton - Sun Music [mp3] K-Os - The Rain [mp3] K-os is one of the better singer/rappers out there and I really like this track from his Atlantis: [...]

Sigur Rós: Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása [zshare] "It is good weather for airstrikes." At 10:57min, Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása is a heartbreak waiting to happen. An epic song with an great music video [It was filmed in Iceland, so you know that'll be beautiful]. Okkervil River: For the Enemy [zshare] I don't think that I will ever get tired of this song. I judge a song by how well it changes my mood, [...]

Wale - The Crazy [mp3] From the new Mixtape About Nothing by Wale, I can't stop listening to this song. The louder the better... "I swear they think I'm crazy, too much percussion and bass..." Mos Def - Beauty in the Dark remix ft. The Isley Brothers [mp3] Just heard this song for the first time, another fantastic vocal performance by Mos. Its basically everything you want when you see Mos Def and the Isley Brothers listed on the same track, but better. [...]

Aceyalone - Annalillia? [zshare] "she looked me in my windows and said Anna-lillia/ ... Annalillia?" One of my favorite narrative tracks, Aceyalone's unrequited love for Annalillia related in a wonderful way. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wish you'd never been born. Souls of Mischief - 93 til Infinity [zshare] Classic west coastin' at its finest, this song is upbeat, laid back, with that lyrical quickness and wry sense of humor that makes you wanna just go drive around with it cranked up or [...]

Gladys Knight - And This is Love [zshare] Gladys Knight is one of my favorite singers of all time, and this is probably my favorite song of hers. In her music I hear the roots of hip-hop, the music behind her singing can almost be directly sampled into a rap song (ex: Queen of Tears sampled on Wu Banga 101 by Ghostface Killah). True black music and soul music at its best. Erykah Badu - 4 Leaf Clover [zshare] What can I say about this song? [...]

when you feel like you're in over your head mp3: M83: Teen Angst [zshare] Air = The Virgin Suicides ; M83 = Life A. Gonzalez creates the score to your every step. it's unreal. Erykah Badu: That Hump [zshare] when you feel like you'll never stop falling when it feels like no one else has the same problems when you're caught in a self-destructing cycle when you fuck up the good things in your life when you need someone to say what you [...]
