If you haven't seen any of the Take Away Shows , you'd be hard-pressed to find a better one to start with than this one. This is everything the internet ought to be, taking an incredible idea, executing it flawlessly, and making for some great, unique content.Beirut is a different sort of band, and this is a different sort of Take Away Show. They actually recorded one video for every song off Beirut's latest album, the Flying Club Cup [...]

There's a thing about prolificness (prolificity?); it usually sucks. Think about someone like Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. He's a guy who has written literally in excess of 500 songs but aside from his first two albums, he can't muster up a collection of decent ones to save his life. Or the dudes from the Mars Volta. They've put out a half dozen solo albums each or so since At The Drive-In broke up, and it's pretty difficult to listen to them at all, let alone tell the difference between a lot of the [...]

So yesterday was Record Store Day . I suppose we are only allotted a few cities in our lifetimes in which we might find ourselves living near transcendentally awesome record stores. I lived in an apartment so dive-y, somebody once hurled in the lobby and the results stayed there for four days before the building manager/dealer who lived above me cleaned it up. But it was near downtown [...]

By the power of Greyskull - no, that's not right. By the power of modern recording techniques, I'll be appearing on two radio stations at once this evening. I'll be doing my day job at night AND hosting Sound Salvation Army at the same time. Scheduling conflicts at the office provided the need for me to re-play a previously recorded show from February (or early March, I forget), but I promise it's a good one. Dig it: Hour One 1. the Mars Volta - Was Simulcara 2. Jason [...]

The virtues of live music have been extolled in these pages before a number of times, and if there's one thing music fans of any genre can agree on, it's that live music totally kicks ass. If you love the band you're watching you can forgive anything, from a shitty sound system to douchebags who won't shut up behind you to having beer spilled all over you. Unfortunately thanks to locale and not being rich, seeing our all time favorite bands simply isn't a possibility for a lot of [...]
