Blog: Get Glucky

*Update!

Yo kids! Hope your summers are all turning out to be special or at least will start getting special soon. I survived Bonnaroo with lots of stories to tell, photos to post and shows and interview to share. Quick preview, highlights: watching Tegan and Sara side stage and later with Tiesto - hundreds of people raving and fist-pumping in their direction, M.I.A having a total dance party on stage, Death Cab For Cutie closing out the night on Sunday and discovering a new band called The Postelles that I love. But more to come in full! [...]

*Get Glucky On The Move!

Hey Kids, we're super excited to be going to Canada tomorrow, although it seems like we're only there for 5 minutes before we have to get down to Tennessee for Bonnaroo. So many people playing that we're so excited to see. We received this which is surely a magical thing to be able to see: DANCE MUSIC ICON TIËSTO GETS BONNAROO FESTIVAL IN A TRANCE Grammy Nominated DJ to Perform Late Night Set Featuring Tegan + Sara, Cary Brothers & [...]

*Florence and The Machine - Kiss With A Fist

Florence and the Machine - Kiss with a Fist
We introduced you to Florence and The Machine a while back in our 'Need To Know' section and we turned on the radio the other day to hear a far more polished but equally as good, version of her song 'Kiss With A Fist' blaring out. Turns out she's no longer a secret which means there are videos and other fun things coming out from her. 'With a voice so hauntingly captivating you can feel it in your stomach, the skinny south [...]

*Bon Iver @ St Giles Church, London

Churches have always been stunning settings for gigs, the sound can sometimes be a little shifty but any lack of sound tweaking is always made up for in atmosphere. 300 people were there and ready to witness Bon Iver's last show before the band head home and no doubt sit and finally take in their incredible European welcome. The support was provided by Port O'Brien from Oakland, California who were really good. Occasionally the church acoustics were not on their side or on the side of their music but they had a really interesting sound, nice harmonies and [...]

*Ray Lamontagne - Gossip In The Grain

Lauded singer/songwriter, Ray LaMontagne is set to release his much-anticipated third album, Gossip In The Grain, on September 9th on RCA Records. Recorded with returning producer, Ethan Johns in Box, England, and touching upon a range of styles and musical settings- spanning pastoral folk, railroad blues, front porch country, and plangent balladry - Gossip In The Grain proves to be his most creative and emotionally expansive collection to date. Whereas LaMontagne's two previous albums, Trouble and Till The Sun Turns Black, were largely solo affairs, with Johns serving as multi-tasking instrumentalist, Gossip In The Grain sees him [...]

*Mumford and Sons/DeYarmond Edison/SSLYBY - Update

We have already expressed extreme fondness for Mumford and Sons but we just found a lovely video they did for Channel M and thought we'd share. White Blank Page (MP3) Awake My Soul (MP3) Feel The Tide Turning (MP3) Roll Away Your Stone (MP3) I am also currently going round in circles playing the new Born Ruffians album and the latest Someone Still Loves You Boris [...]

*Tokyo Police Club @ Night and Day Cafe, Manchester/Land of Talk @ ULU/Club Academy, London/Manchester

The last time I saw Tokyo Police Club play was in San Francisco in March and they were really great then, but I hadn't heard the album and therefore didn't know quite a few of the songs. 'Elephant Shell' is now out and is a fantastic debut record. It tends to be a rare luxury for me personally, to buy a record these days and put it on and not want to skip any tracks - to be able to enjoy an album the whole way through [...]

Silver Jews/Monotonix @ ULU, London

pictures & writing by Mike Reis Still reeling from Thursday's quietly powerful in-store acoustic set by Land of Talk at Rough Trade's Notting Hill store, I ran across town to see Silver Jews perform with Israel's Monotonix and Port O'Brien at ULU. The decision to attend this show was made rather spontaneously, and without time to properly research the support acts, I didn't know what to expect. Arriving late, I was only able to catch the last few bars of Port O'Brien's set, but I was excited to hear Monotonix—good, mellow country-rock isn't easy to [...]

*Wintersleep Interview

Hey Kids, the time has finally come where I have been able to sit down for an hour and type up this interview! Sorry for the delay but we will say that we had the pleasure of seeing Wintersleep play more than a couple times while they were over here and they are a fantatic live band. If you don't already know/own their new album, 'Welcome To The Night Sky' we suggest you go have a listen somewhere. It's easily one of our favourite records of the [...]

*Born Ruffians/Johnny Flynn/Get Glucky Travel Update!

Hey Kids! Sorry we've been away for a little while, it's been crunch time in all corners of life so it was time to knuckle down and unfortunately that usually entails keeping the wonderful distraction that is the internet, far away. In musical updates this week we're loving the sound of the new Born Ruffians album 'Red, Yellow & Blue' which in parts sounds like a mesh of The Strokes guitar parts and Vampire Weekend's bounce and the Johnny Flynn debut that we've been waiting for [...]

*Rachael Yamagata EP News

One of our favourite, favourite ladies (we had to put it twice because she really is that awesome) has been nice enough to release a 3 track EP on the internet as her next album is taking a little longer than expected to come out. She posted this: The 'Loose Ends' track listing is: 1. The Other Side 2. Parade 3. Answering The Door The EP can be bought HERE and at the moment we're not offering any of the [...]
