Indie Folk-Pop quartet, Horse Feathers is set to release their fourth album, Cynic's New Year, via Kill Rock Stars on April 17th. Had I been aware of this release earlier, it surely would have made my Most Anticipated Albums of 2012 list that I released last week. Their 2010 release, Thistled Spring, was one of my favorite albums of the year that I have continued to return to time and again. Take a listen to the first single from the new album below. Swedish sister duo, First Aid Kit, sound to me like the perfect blend of Fleet Foxes and Bat for Lashes. I've only vaguely followed their musical career thus far. First obsessing over their brilliant cover of "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" off their debut Drunken Trees . Then the single "Hard Believer" off of their sophomore effort The Big Black And The Blue . Yesterday the Punch Brothers released their third full-length album yesterday on Nonesuch Records . Tennis made quite the splash on the music scene last year with their stellar debut, Cape Dory. Earlier this week, Seattle indie follksters, The Head and the Heart released the official video for their charming song "Down in the Valley". The video gives you a glimpse into "the touring life". It's a fun little trip that goes from sleeping in vans on the road to setting up the stage to rockin' out in front of thousands of people. I absolutely wore out Danish singer/songwriter Teitur Lassen's debut album Poetry & Aeroplanes. It may have been the most played album for me from my college days. As a child, I absolutely LOVED The Muppets movies. And as an adult, I may actually love them even more. It's hard to say, which movie is my favorite. Here is my current obsession. I have been playing this tragic break-up tune on repeat for the past couple of weeks. I'm probably going wear it out soon, and I am pretty sure I've already ruined it for several of my friends. I don't really care for all of the remixes and covers that have been floating around for this song. In my humble opinion, 2011 was pretty poor year for cinema. Don't get me wrong, I saw a lot of enjoyable films this past year, from The Muppets to the final Harry Potter film, to the Amblin homage Super 8. But that is just what they were, enjoyable. I di2dn't leave the theater disappointed very often this past year. But I rarely, if ever, left the theater feeling exhilarated or did I walk out diving into an evening long conversation about the film I just saw. My wife and I have a tradition of spending the winter months leading up to the Oscars, catching up on seeing all of the most nominated films. Last night, we watched The Help. I was pleasantly surprised with the film adaptation of this story. Obviously it lacked a lot of the character development that made the book so rich and rewarding, but they did a really good telling this encouraging and challenging story. Indie rock band, Miracles of Modern Science , have given the internet world a fun little treat with their new mini-project, Bon Joviver. They have taken the musical stylings of Bon Iver and combined them with the classic 802s pop tune, "You Give Love a Bad Name", written by, of course, Bon Jovi. Thus, giving us the name, Bon Joviver. Short and silly, but very entertaining. I'm pretty surprised that Jimmy Fallon hadn't already come up with this.
