I made the switch from vinyl to serato about three months ago, and I've been struggle to rip all my club records onto the computer. The problem is all the good club records are mostly available only on vinyl. I had this old set of gemini direct drive turntables. One worked. The other kind of lagged on every other rotation, making the record sound all fucked up. They were the decks that I learned how to spin on, so they were near and dear to my heart. Today I put them on the street next to my old apartment with a FREE sign pasted to them. So Coachella is this weekend, and I'm hopping on an early morning flight tomorrow to catch some crazy music in Indio. The room is booked and all extra curricular goods have been secured. I spent the weekend trying to figure out if I should re-sign the lease for my apartment. The slumlords are giving me problems about installing bars on the window that fit a air-conditioning unit for my bedroom. If you have ever been to Baltimore in the summer, you know that this is somewhat of a necessity. The police also recently arrested a guy trying to break into the apartment above mine, so you can see the need for the security bars. So the people at Goldenvoice have been known to make some last minute additions to their Coachella lineup. This year being no exception, they've gone out and paid big money for Prince. The message boards are blowing up with those folks into it, and those who are not. I am a member of the former group.
