OK, internet. I have a bone to pick with you. You all know that I've been pretty excited for the lineup of new music that's coming out this September. I've blogged about a few of the individual releases, there's a poll to the left asking you fine people about it...for frak's sake I blogged an Earth, Wind and Fire song to express my excitement! But yet, not one of you told me that there was a critical omission from my rundown of new albums... ...the Gin Blossoms are dropping [...]
Here we are once again with another pair of remixes from two artists who coincidentally share a common first initial. I always thought Jason Derulo's hit "In My Head" would be well served if some pop or rock act wanted to try their hand at it. And leave it to Philly native Chrys Banger to give us the closest thing we've got so far. Banger replaces the synthesized electric guitar with some suave acoustics while cranking up the beat. The result is a fun reinterpretation of the track that's certain to shake up what you're used to hearing. [...]
Behold, the official music video from Linkin Park's polarizing new single "The Catalyst". The clip shaves a minute from the song's runtime, which normally wouldn't matter, but in this case Linkin Park managed to actually make the single, the first from A Thousand Suns , a little bit more palatable. The bridge of the song still feels out of place, but it's still a step in the right direction. The video is pretty standard. If you've seen any apocalyptic film from the last decade, just throw Linkin Park into [...]

Disturbed are giving away a second free song (third overall) from Asylum , which is due out next week. If you were to visit Disturbed's official website , you'd be encouraged to tweet a message telling your Twitter followers about the freebie in exchange for a download (if you aren't on Twitter, there's also a stream available right on the splash page). You can also listen to the song below. Of all the songs we've heard so far from Asylum , this is the first one I've really been able [...]

Jimmy Eat World have released a new song from next month's Invented , their seventh studio album. The guys at Antiquiet get all the high fives for ripping this track from the vinyl single for "My Best Theory". The B-Side, an album track entitled "Stop", is closer to standard Jimmy Eat World. Where "My Best Theory" sort of came out of left field with its glossy, club-ready groove, "Stop" is a pining love song reminiscent of something out of Clarity . It's not spectacular, to the point where I'm starting to lower my expectations [...]

Last week 30 Seconds to Mars unveiled the video for "Closer to the Edge", the third single from last year's This is War . As per most of 30STM's videos, this clip comes in short-film format, directed by lead singer Jared Leto's behind-the-camera alias Bartholomew Cubbins. Check the video out below. 30 Seconds to Mars, and Leto in particular, get a lot of flak from all sides on account of Leto essentially putting on an act when he's on stage, and he's just [...]

We didn't post the original "living painting" for Kanye West's "Power" because, well, it was thoroughly meh . But for what might be the first time in recorded history, a group of frat boys took something musical and actually made it better with "Power Hour". So, here it is, your Moment of Zen.

One of the things I love most about rap and hip-hop artists is the way they wear their excitement about new music on their sleeve. For however excited we might be to hear new stuff from Jay-Z, Kanye, Lil Wayne, etc., they're twice as excited to put it out there. Record sales be damned, rappers genuinely just want people to hear what they've cooked up. Given the option, albums wouldn't have several months turnaround between completion and release. Consequently, the Kanye's and Weezy's of the world succumb to their own anticipation and release new music to the world via twitter [...]

I don't generally post remixes here, mostly because it's difficult to find ones that I can give a crap about. But a couple broke through today that impressed me enough to warrant some bloggings, so here they are. VLM favorites Free Energy are releasing a split 73 with Local Natives that'll be out in September. Their side of the disc will contain a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire" and this cheerful, beachy remix of their single "Bang Pop", as done by Lewis Pesacov of Fool's Gold. Stereogum debuted the song today, and you can [...]
The Beloit College Mindset List for the Class of 2014 came out today. It included such tidbits as "Bud Selig has always been the Commissioner of Major League Baseball" and "Fergie is a pop singer, not a princess", among other interesting and occasionally scary bits of information about incoming college freshmen (born in 1992...*shudder*). But there's one on that list that I feel obligated to call a heaping pile of bullshit upon. Nirvana is on the classic oldies station. Now, I can only speak for the Philadelphia Classic Rock and [...]
A few weeks ago I was turned onto (and thus turned you all onto) New Collisions , a bubbly new rock band out of Boston whose introductory track "Dying Alone" was and is getting numerous spins on my iPod. Last week I was given the second track from their album The Optimist , out October 5th. "Over" has all the same unabashed pop fun that made "Dying Alone" such a treat, complete a head bobbing "whoa-oh oh" of a hook. Check the song out yourself below. New Collisions - Over [...]
This story was just too good not to post. Apparently that fight Charlie Sheen had that resulted in him getting a rehab stint and community service? You can blame Train for that. From a story on WMMR's website : ...a report revealing that the song "Drops Of Jupiter" was at the heart of the now infamous Christmas day argument between Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller. According to police reports, Sheen told police that he and one of his daughters shared "an affinity for both astronomy and the song 'Drops of Jupiter' [...]

Jimmy Eat World have returned with the first single from their new album Invented , out September 28. "My Best Theory" is a solid rocker and a hell of a first impression for what we might expect from Invented , but it doesn't raise spirits in the same way that "Big Casino" did when it introduced Chase This Light back in 2007. Not necessarily a bad thing, since it means Jimmy Eat World are reaching for something different. If anything, between that head-bobber of a beat and the staccato chorus, [...]

It's a safe bet that anything The Arcade Fire release is going to get some fairly noticeable buzz amongst the blogosphere and the indie kids. Their third release The Suburbs has proven no exception. In the weeks prior to The Arcade Fire's third album, the new album was on at least one occasion compared to OK Computer , no small claim to make. While The Suburbs is The Arcade Fire's best, most accessible album to date, it falls short of the lofty expectations set for it. The album's title track opens [...]
Over the weekend Weezer unveiled the lead single from their new album, entitled Hurley , due out September 14. At the very least, "Memories" takes a stab at Rivers Cuomo's promise that Hurley would feature more "raw rock energy" than their last few releases. It's certainly not as rocking as, say, "Buddy Holly" or for that matter, any Weezer song post-2002. I'm not even sure I put it ahead of the best stuff from the pleasantly surprising Raditude , released last year. But Weezer has a bad habit of luring me [...]

Not to be outdone by Kanye West premiering the video for "Power" tonight, Eminem unveiled the official clip for his second single. The steamy, emotionally charged video for "Love the Way You Lie" is below (Warning: Video and audio stream are both NSFW for language). The destructive couple in the video is played by Dominic Monaghan ( Lost, The Lord of the Rings ) and Megan Fox ( Transformers , the inappropriate dreams of teenagers worldwide). Rihanna is as sultry as ever in the [...]

Haven't heard the new single from Taylor Swift yet? Yes, actually, you probably have. If you heard "Love Story", then you probably heard "Mine", the first taste of Swift's new album, Speak Now , slated for release on October 26th. I'm not necessarily saying that "Mine" is a bad song, it's just...unremarkable. Lyrically Taylor Swift is about as good as we've come to expect (take that however you will), but instrumentally it's bland, uninspired pop country hybrid, and will almost inevitably be watered down into a "pop version" to ensure that [...]

After months of promising that the album was finished, playing songs on the road, and yes, canceling a show for reasons pertaining to bird shit (really), Kings of Leon have revealed the particulars regarding their fifth studio album. Come Around Sundown will be out on October 19 (thus confirming reports from earlier this week), and will follow-up the Grammy Award winning Only By the Night . No word yet on a title or release date for a single, though in recent concerts the band has played songs from the new album with working titles "Radioactive", "Mary", and [...]

At long last, after numerous clips, previews, and an uncomfortably jingoistic video game trailer, Linkin Park unveiled the full version of "The Catalyst". My expectations for the song have been in a state of flux, to the point where I mentally prepared myself for hearing the song by playing the first few tracks from Reanimation . A lot has been said both in favor and against the song, and now after hearing the song four or five times in the three hours since its release, I'm here to take a stand. So here goes. [...]
I've mentioned in the past that I've recently become a fan of The Guild. They started Season 4 of the series (about a group of gamers who struggle to exist in the real world), and below lies their newest music video for "Game On". I...I have no words for this one, so here it is, your Moment of Zen.
