Here's another spate of weak releases. That said, records by two inimitable Steves help bright up this week - Stephen Malkmus and Stephin Merritt, that is. Thankfully, no new Steve Martin bluegrass albums...yet. I know I'm sleeping on a couple other albums this week, but I can't help it. My eyes are peering anxiously toward next week, when the last Glen Campbell record hits shelves. And yes, I'm serious. So eat that. :: 400 Blows - Sickness and Health :: [...]

Jeff Bridges - Jeff Bridges Release date: August 17, 2011 Starman, looking haggard for blues cred. I can't imagine the heckling din from Lebowski meatheads who paid $30 just to yell "Shut the fuck up Donnie!" to the Dude.
This just proves that John Rocker was right about New York City. Low - Especially Me

When it comes to the Buzzgrinder family, there are a few brands we always speak of in hushed, solemn tones. Chrome is one of them. Their bags, shoes and assorted miscellany are second to none. Period. So when we were offered the chance to give away a pair of Chrome's new All City shoes, you can imagine how soiled are pants were. The All City line includes two different leather designs, the Riverton and the Southside . Needless to say, they're as durable as any Chrome swag - the last the last [...]

Army Navy - The Last Place Release date: August 9, 2011 This is only the last place if you want it to be.
I say it every year, but Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin is my favorite festival. And that won't change in 2011, thanks in part to a badass lineup that includes Danzig playing Misfits tunes, Public Enemy playing Public Enemy tunes, the fucking Hot Snakes , Reggie Watts , M83 , Slayer , Ted Leo [...]
I know it's been a while — both for me and for the new releases — but things will be picking up now that I'm able to sleep more than three hours at a time and I'm not working two full-time jobs. Speaking of which, my new job entails hosting After Dark on WFPK here in Louisville. So tune in if you want to be lulled to sleep Monday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. Plus Seth is posting again. So it's just like the old days, except I have less hair on my [...]

A Hope for Home will be producing a film as a companion to their forthcoming record. Rather than a traditional music video, the film will attempt to conceptualize questions and themes which the record addresses - exploring the mystery of the search for meaning in one's place within the cosmos and time and our relationship with, and responsibility to, others.

A Hope for Home will be producing a film as a companion piece to their forthcoming record. Rather than a traditional music video, the film will attempt to conceptualize questions and themes which the record addresses - exploring the mystery of the search for meaning in one's place within the cosmos and time and our relationship with, and responsibility to, others.
Everything needs a trailer, especially if the thing is the Hopesfall .hopesfall. reunion, created by Buzzgrinder alumnus Blake Garris . Get into it.
A nice serving of dream pop from Lauren Zettler, of Brooklyn NY, better known as Lightyear .

Blink-182 has joined with the very punk rock AT&T to release their new single, ' Up All Night .' It uses video footage that fans have uploaded (without the bands permission) over the years and mashes them into a cutesy homage. Plenty of skate boards, hi-jinks and kids playing guitars in their parents basement.

From the "not shocking in the least" department, Kings of Leon have cancelled the remainder of their US tour dates . This after a mucho publicized horror of a show on July 29th, when singer Caleb Followill announced (from stage) that he'd BRB and needed to vomit backstage. The tour will supposedly resume in September in Canada.

Life In Your Way - The Kingdom EPs Conn.'s Life In Your Way returns from the grave to release three EPs, each with their own specific theme, on the Come&Live! label. I contacted designer Bryan Minear about his work designing the covers. "I knew I wanted the artwork for the three EPs to remain somewhat consistent. I kept in mind what Thrice did with The Alchemy Index . which I believe Dustin Kensrue himself did the artwork for. But really I [...]

Iwrestledabearonce - Ruining It For Everybody Release date: July 19, 2011 IWABO, for the promotion cycle for this release, sorta fooled everyone into thinking they were doing black metal . It obviously wasn't true, but if you think about it, "I want to burn old churches down" goes hand in hand with maggots and cigarettes in a birthday cake.

Yes - Fly From Here Release date: July 12, 2011 Roger Dean continues to make Yes look as smoked-out as possible, and Yes brings prog-rock into the 20102s by having a sort-of concept album, with multipart songs and stretchy track lengths. Not like that one Canadian power trio that used to prog it up. I forget their name but I bet no one likes them anymore.

It's only inevitable that, in the current swath of reuniting bands, that Hopesfall would follow suit. The lineup from the EP have gotten back together to play two shows in their homebase of South Caroline, lifting material from their first three releases: Frailty of Words , No Wings to Speak Of , and The Satellite Years . Show details are after the jump. If you're like the staff at Buzzgrinder you were amazed by their refreshing take on melodic hardcore that gave rise to dozens of bands echoing their style. [...]

Heartsounds - Drifter Release date: July 26, 2011 Nothing says "This Will Be In My Top 10 Albums Released This Year" like floating clocks. Since their last album had the 'Frisco skyline getting housed by these falling timepieces, I sense a chronology forming. Their next release will have them sitting at a desk at the bottom of the ocean .
Powerwolf - Blood of the Saints Release date: August 2, 2011 If there's one good thing about being the Pope, is that metal bands will mistake you for skeleton or some kind of animal. This misperception tends to reveal itself on their album covers, regardless of demonstrable evidence to the contrary. Now who's the real Nazi?
