Je Suis Animal are classy . Let me just say I have done a terrible job of keeping up with Cloudberry as of late. – Odd, too, because ever since reaching 100 3" CDRs their output has slowed dramatically, you know, to that of a normally functioning record label. Every 7" Roque's released so far has been an absolute cracker and the new(ish) Je Suis Animal single is no exception! I've known about it for a little while now, but it wasn't until this morning that I actually gave it a [...]
Sourpatch! I was browsing around on Rose Melberg's MySpace earlier this morning. I like to stop by there from time to time because lots of new bands influenced by Tiger Trap, Go Sailor, The Softies, et al like to comment and leave their praises for Rose. I then go to their pages and then I listen to their songs and then I'm happy. It's a very successful system that I've got going on. Anyway, this morning I came upon a band from San Jose called Sourpatch . Not only have they got a fantastic name, [...]

On a scale of one to a thing, it's definitely gonna be a thing. Do it!
An Independent Music Video Compilation While skimming around on Youtube the other day – as I do most every day – I was extremely delighted to find that someone has uploaded the entirety of Munch One and Two!!! Munch was an "Independent Music Video Compilation" released by Season Records in 1994. Then, in 1997, Munch Two was released – this time a co-release between Season and Drive-In Records. The compilations featured videos from a wide array of amazing indiepop bands – The Cat's Miaow, Black Tambourine, Even As We Speak, The Magnetic Fields, Pencil Tin, Rocketship, [...]

Stuff I'm liking a lot at the moment – the moment being November, of course. November! A time of cold days, sweaters, scarves, really good pine-scented candles, rain, and last, but not least, a very much welcomed break from my typical perpetual business. Though I may not write much about music when I'm busy, that definitely doesn't mean I'm not listening to it, so in the spirit of such logic, I present a new mix! You Can't Have It All collects a little new and a little old – a smattering of my listening [...]
Since Wikipedia tends to deem the depths indiepop not important enough to exist, it's a good thing we've recently taken up our own land! Enter Indiepopedia ! Though still in it's early stages, it's on it's way to becoming an incredible and everlasting resource to the International Pop Underground! But! It won't go anywhere without your help – it is a wiki, and that means that YOU need to help build it! So, PLEASE head over and check it out , and PLEASE feel inclined to add and edit anything that you think should be there!!! [...]
Oh my gosh Puppy Cam! Puppy cam > music.

Following the release of their debut LP this past Summer, Hari and Aino , are soon to deliver their second release for Cloudberry Records – and this time it's on vinyl! The single, with fantastic cover artwork from Amy Ruppel, features "A Considerate Kind of Home" b/w "Maple". "A Considerate Kind of Home" is up for free download right now over at Cloudberry HQ , and I can't stop listening to it! It's nothing too new, per se, but then – when you're Hari and Aino and you make indiepop this sweet – why change? The song's got [...]

The first single from new London/Belfast label Papillons Noirs is from the number one coziest band in all of Chicago – Fireflies . The a-side is a cover of Air's "Cherry Blossom Girl", which I think – as I've mentioned sometime before – far surpasses the original. Not only is it an absolutely gorgeous rendition, but like all of Fireflies' recordings – it's warmer than a blanket and a bowl of soup on the very coldest days of autumn and winter. Plus, I like how intimate Fireflies always feel, like he's whispering the song into your ear, [...]
Holy moly! Mexico's Hello Seahorse! have just made my week a very happy one. After watching their video for their new song, "Won't Say Anything", I am excited out of my mind to hear the rest of the new EP that Magic Marker will be bringing to us on November 11th!!! Seriously, this song has got to be one of the most infectious things I've heard in a while. The vocal melodies are so genious, and the acoustic guitar in the chorus is so tremendously catchy I just can't handle it! The video is totally fun, [...]

As if new records from The Pobpahs, Crystal Stilts, and caUSE co-MOTION weren't enough, next in line for Slumberland Records is the very, very eagerly anticipated debut 7" from Glasgow's Sexy Kids (ex-Royal We)! The record will feature the enormous-sounding "Sisters Are Forever" b/w "Drown Me" a groovy little song, with more handclaps than the name would suggest. "Sisters Are Forever" is one of the best songs I've heard all year, but I'm still having trouble describing how I hear it. It's not post-punk exactly, and it's not just indiepop either. It's somewhere between the two, [...]
The Deirdres may be going into hibernation, but not before making a super ace video for what I would say is probably their best song ever! "Milk Is Politics" appeared on their recent Why Do My Glasses Give You The Heeby Jeebys? EP. The song is tremendously catchy and the video is exactly what one would expect from The Deirdres. It's a real shame they won't be gracing us with anymore tunes for some indefinite period of time, but it happens, I guess. "Milk is Politics" b/w the ridiculous "Sir Michael [...]

October's been probably the busiest month of my life, as far as I can remember, and that's why I haven't been around here much. However, that doesn't mean I haven't been hearing lots and lots of new fantastic things! Since it's Sunday and I'm enjoying some very welcomed downtime, I thought I'd play catch-up a little bit this week with a few records I love personally, but have yet to love publicly! The Lil' Hospital First up, the record that has kept me dancing on the bed more [...]

Sometimes life just gets really, really busy. I'll return soon enough. Compilation CDr right around the corner! :)

First of all, I got bored – as I very often do – of the header I had up for a little bit there, so I went and made a new one. I think this might be my favorite and I plan on leaving it up for a while, so I hope you like it! Anyway, onward... "You only dream about yesterdays. There and back again, there and back again…" Surprisingly close – though definitely not unpleasantly so – on the heels of last year's brilliant LP [...]

Slothbear EP cover art. The Slothbear is a wonderful animal and so it's only fitting that a band named after such an awesome creature should, too, be awesome. NYC's Slothbear make noisy, caustic pop songs with more catchiness – and treble – than you could shake a stick at. Since yesterday I've been pretty stuck on them and songs like "The Exceptional Bastards" and "You Make Me Choose You" are so instantly infectious and, well, I don't know, they're just really really good. I wouldn't be surprised if Slothbear were picked up [...]
